Love this thing...wear it all the time. Going to buy another to get some color variety. Doesn't over heat your noggin' but keeps out the cold. I've used this thing for sitting in the office, running, skiing, or just bummin and love it all around. Highly suggest getting one.

Sick goggle!

Dragon Mace Goggle - Polarized

Dragon Mace Goggle - Polarized

Rating for this product: 5 December 10, 2009

Super clear high-def like vision in high-light and medium-light and aren't too bad in low-light either. LOVE the anti-fog. I've taken a few toe-edge diggers planting my face firmly on the ground (early season hard pack) and these things didn't show a mark. These work great with my helmet or with just a beanie or hood. They seal well around the temples and don't press into the nose like some others. The "Micro Fleece Lining" seems to keep my face from freezing on the way up the lift so I'm lovin' that. One thing I'd note is these fit a larger face...not for a kid or narrow face.

Slim fit, super light, awesome functionality!

MontBell Ultralight Down Inner Jacket - Men's

MontBell Ultralight Down Inner Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 2, 2009

Light, stuffable, breathable...great to throw into the pack or to wear straight out of the gate. I bought this to put in my pack during ascents so I could wear it between my baselayer and shell on the way down when backcountry skiing, snow-shoeing, or while doing some ice climbing. However, I haven't used it for any of that yet...I've used it for camping, riding, loafing, and for running the dogs and it's lived up to every expectation so far...warmth without overheating or the bulkiness of some of the loftier down jackets. I compared this to Patagonia's down sweater and liked this one a bit more because it was less bulky around the collar and more fit around the waist. If this sweater fits too snug around the middle, I think the Patagonia version would be your baby! I'm 6'0", 155, have a 15.5 neck, 32 sleeve, and a 38 chest - I bought the small and it fits great (snug but not overly tight - great for layering). Can't wait to get a MontBell sleeping bag now!

Compare this to the Patagonia down sweater!

Stuffable, washable, and warm

Icebreaker Pocket 200 Beanie

Icebreaker Pocket 200 Beanie

Rating for this product: 5 November 16, 2009

Super lightweight, easy to stuff in a pocket. Hasn't shrunk in the wash. Have worn for 5 'am runs and just around town and I’m equally happy. I've thrown it in the regular washer just with my clothes and haven't had any problems. Hat's definitely not for extreme wind or cold but great to keep warm if you're just kickin' it or while you're working up a sweat. I'm usually extremely sensitive to itchy stuff and didn’t get too much of an itchy feel with this guy so that makes me happy. Great all-around hat I'd recommend to anyone.

Great base for cycling or running

SmartWool Microweight Crew Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

SmartWool Microweight Crew Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 16, 2009

I’m extremely sensitive to itchy stuff and didn’t get any itchy feel from this top at all. I’ve used this base layer for both cycling as well as running. As others have said, it breathes well, wicks well, dries quickly, and is great as a base layer under anything. I’ve worn this a few times at about 50-60 degrees without something over the arms and I would suggest always wearing a long-sleeve jacket/shell over it to give it a layer above it or you’ll get chilled very quickly. I’ve completely disregarded hand-washing it and I’ve just thrown it into the wash with my other tech wear and have had no problems or noticeable balling up on the surface yet and I’ve used this top at least twice a week for 2 months. All in all, love it and plan to buy many more.

Great roomy tent

Kelty Trail Dome Tent 6-Person 3-Season

Kelty Trail Dome Tent 6-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 4 April 20, 2009

Roomy, easy to set up and great in the wind and rain. You can dress standing up...if you're 6'0" or over you'll have to slouch a bit, but a good height all the same. Comes with the aluminum poles so you don't have to deal with the ends of the fiberglass one's breaking off. One con about the tent are the clips that hold the tent to the poles. Especially the ones that the rain fly poles mount into. They can tear out of the tent completely. Other than that, tent's great. Backcountry is great about swapping something that breaks. Walls and the tub floor hold out the water and do well - I've tried it in torrential rain and 50-60mph winds, and believe me, it'll take some water and keep you dry even when it's coming at you sideways. I also especially like the gear loft loops...I hook a light or two to them and play cards or just plain use the gear hammock that comes with it. Snag one of these tents and go play.

Best all-around shoe out there!!!

MSR Denali Evo Snowshoe

MSR Denali Evo Snowshoe

Rating for this product: 5 March 23, 2009

Love these things. Lightweight, super durable, and more than anything they ALWAYS get traction. The metal side rails along the bottom help to not slide sideways when you're on a bit of an icy crust but don't get in the way when going straight forward. The straps and attachment system are great. I've used these with boots, shoes, snowboarding boots, as well as telemark boots and they've worked equally well with all of them. The ability to attach a tail for added length when carrying a load just sweetens the love for these guys. I'd HIGHLY recommend these to everybody. Don't just buy one pair, buy TWO for you and someone else!!!

Great once you know how to operate!

Black Diamond Icon Headlamp

Black Diamond Icon Headlamp

Rating for this product: 3 March 23, 2009

Great little light. It is a little bulky but well balanced - I guess this would be "to be expected" with the amount of burn time you can get outta this thing. As others have noticed, I noted as well that the settings and different modes were difficult to access and program. Other than that, the performance of this little guy is stellar. just study things out before you take it on a trip.

Show the knees and quads some love

CW-X Insulator Stabilyx Tight - Men's

CW-X Insulator Stabilyx Tight - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 16, 2009

I've used these tights for both running and skiing hard. Running in cold weather is always bad on the knees and the support given by the cross banded design around the knees and into the calves was super-supportive and I found my knees to warm up a lot faster and not begin to ache while running in the cold. At the same time the support still allowed blood flow and was un-restricting. Also, I found the muscle support great and my legs seemed to fatigue a lot less. I also wear these skiing. After a day of hard skiing through moguls, powder, and crud my knees and quads are usually quite taxed and turn to spagetti. However, in support though the knees, I went well into the afternoon not having remembered I even had the things on. I didn't fatigue and was able to keep shredding well into the afternoons which is usually when I'm camping out in the lodge eating some grub to recover before a few last runs. These tights worked quite well as a base layer but seemed to retain moisture a little longer than I would have liked. I found these tended to absorb the sweat instead of dispersing it and the thick seam between the legs created discomfort on a few occasions. Other than that, all in all I would highly recommend these to anyone who's used to hammering their knees hard day in and day out. I'd use these for snowshoeing, cross-country, alpine, or backcountry skiing, and running and possibly cycling if worn over a padded cycling short. I think CW-X has done a great job with all the research they've put into these tights and think they're well worth the price.

Super breathable

CW-X Insulator Zip T-Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

CW-X Insulator Zip T-Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 16, 2009

I used the the Insulator top for snowshoeing, cross-country/backcountry skiing, alpine skiing, running, cycling worn underneath a jersey. I found that the fabric around the neck kept folding in funny against my neck and creating discomfort and the zipper kept poking me in the neck and chin. The material itself is a great base layer and wicks well so long as you have a breathable layer over it. I would not recommend wearing this shirt without something over it in cool weather. It's super-breathable and almost draws the cold air to you. But, because of that it breathes and works super-well. All in all I think it's a great design if they would just re-work the zipper. If you're used to having a zipper I think you would be fine and it you have a bigger neck I think you would be fine, but since I'm a bit more lean through the neck, the zipper and fabric just weren't working.

All Around Weapon

Blizzard Titan Cronus Ski

Blizzard Titan Cronus Ski

Rating for this product: 4 January 12, 2009

I've taken these out in all conditions and they've performed with shining colors. They're even good in the bumps. Shovel doesn't float like a powder ski but they're a great all around weapon for that one quiver arsenal!
I highly recommend them.

All Mountain Goodness...

Dynastar Big Trouble Limited Alpine Ski

Dynastar Big Trouble Limited Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 4 January 12, 2009

These are a great "All Condition" ski. First thing I noticed is these babies are a heavier ski but because of that they powered through anything...and yes, moguls, crud, and ice were among the powder, corduroy, and trees. These skis do NOT like to go straight...they LOVE to turn. They're a strong ski with a lot of pop and I'd highly suggest them to anyone who wants a ski that will play in the park as well as hit some groomer runs and jumps in the powder and trees.

Great rescue shovel

Black Diamond Transfer 7 Shovel

Black Diamond Transfer 7 Shovel

Rating for this product: 5 December 9, 2008

Love this little shovel. It will fold down in a heart-beat, is lightweight yet durable enough to take a whack into some rock when cutting a rouche-block or other avi-testing activities. BUT, what I like most about this suck'a is that is has a square shaft. You don't have to fiddle around trying to lock the buttons into the holes like you do with the round shafts. It's a no-nonscence, simple functional design and is very quick to assemble and extend into a shovel. I haven't had to use this to rescue a friend yet, but when and if an avi reaks it's havoc on a buddy, I'd be able to have this thing out in a hurry once I tracked them down.

Good all around

Backcountry Access Tracker DTS Beacon

Backcountry Access Tracker DTS Beacon

Rating for this product: 4 December 9, 2008

These are very easy to use. I'd suggest playing hide-and-go-seek with them in the dark or out in the snow just to familiarize yourselves with these (or any other for that matter) beacons so when the real situation hits, you're already primed and ready. These are fool-proof and so easy to figure out you could have children working them as well. These will communicate with most other beacons (all current models). Things I don't like are the weight and the harness...it's quite bulky and swings around a lot even when sinched down.

Great lightweight liners

Marmot DriClime Base Layer Gloves

Marmot DriClime Base Layer Gloves

Rating for this product: 3 December 9, 2008

I've used these inside some trailrunning gloves on colder days as well as inside my ski gloves. They're functional and super breathable. However, I think they could be a bit less bulky in the seems and use a little thinner material in the wrist band. I love the material however and will continue to use these until I wear them to shreds.

No Fog!

Smith I/O Interchangeable Optics Spherical Series Goggles - Mirror Lens

Smith I/O Interchangeable Optics Spherical Series Goggles - Mirror Lens

Rating for this product: 5 December 9, 2008

These things rock! Sensor lense is great for those low-light days and the Ignitor works for everything else. It's a total 2 for 1! Wahoo. Anyway, I've tried to get these things to fog and haven't had any luck aside from taking them away from my face and breathing steam right in to them. Best goggle I've had. No distortion. Fit well with both my helmets (a Salomon and a Protec). Snatch a pair while you can...

Marmot DriClime Base Layer Gloves

December 8, 2008

Dalia...I'd probably say not. However, any cover over the skin is better than nothing. The reason I say not is these are made more for a wicking baselayer to be worn inside another glove. If you're looking for UV protection, I would look for a thin glove with some sort of titanium oxide woven into the fabric. Titanium oxide will also enable items to transfer moisture super fast and to dry three times faster than standard polyester so it would be great for summer so your hands didn't get sweaty wearing a glove. I don't see any gloves like that on this site however.
