Aire Outfitter I Inflatable Kayak

Aire Outfitter I Inflatable Kayak

Rating for this product: 3 March 5, 2009

I didn't buy this, but just used one a friend of mine owns, and let me borrow. It inflated easily, and seemed stable in the water. It did not feel as sturdy as a non-inflatable, but I used it in class 2 and it held up just fine. It doesn't have many of the luxuries of a non-inflatable, and it did get me wet, even in only minor waves. Thus, I feel this is a good product for its class, but I wasn't really impressed.

Zeal Thrust Sunglasses - Polarized - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 March 5, 2009

My wife bought these and they came scratched. When we went to re-purchase them, they were sold out in her color. They seemed easy to scratch. Wy wife felt they looked nice, and she maintains they felt good on her face, while providing nice coverage. It's a shame they scratched so easily.

Nothing Bad

Black Diamond Guide Glove - Men's

Black Diamond Guide Glove - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 16, 2009

There is almost nothing bad I can write about this glove. It is super warm, and is very comfortable. Washes nice, especially after sweating for hours on end. Great for skiing, winter sports, and general-duty outdoor work. Fingers are a bit hard to move outside, but this is nothing new with good winter gloves. They look cool too! As mentioned by another reviewer, these are not expedition gloves for multiple-day, 8000m peaks! Good for regular-duty and even heavy duty, but not for extreme adventurers.

Good, Can Be Better

Garmin eTrex Vista H

Garmin eTrex Vista H

Rating for this product: 3 January 16, 2009

I used to have the csx until it got lost when my airline lost my suitcase. I bought this instead. It lacks the fancy features of the csx, and has about 1/2 the capabilities. I'm somewhat disappointed. This unit works well, and is easy to read, but is nothing fancy, nice and basic. It can be better.

Great Product but Easily Damaged

Highgear ATF8 Altimeter

Highgear ATF8 Altimeter

Rating for this product: 3 December 3, 2008

I had this altimeter, and was very happy with it. It was spot-on accurate, easy to use, and really looked nice on my bag during trips. It broke however after about 6 months after purchase, on maybe my tenth or eleventh trip with it, not by falling down a mountain or getting knocked around on a hike, but by hanging on the back of my pack during a long ski day in Maine on a ridiculously cold day. Beware-don't bring this into -20 temps!

Suunto MC-2G Navigator Global Compass

Suunto MC-2G Navigator Global Compass

Rating for this product: 4 December 3, 2008

This is a great navi tool, but somewhat useless for most people. If you're an outdoors man, afraid to use a GPS by itself, or just want another cool gadget, this is a top-of-the-line navigator. It really isn't too much greater in terms of accuracy or functionality than similar devices 1/2 it's price. My suggestion is to spend a bit less, and use the money on another gadget!

Amazing, Plain & Simple

Spenco Second Skin Quik Stik Sterile Pads

Spenco Second Skin Quik Stik Sterile Pads

Rating for this product: 5 December 3, 2008

I keep these in my first-aid kit. I also keep them in my office, car, and at home. They are great, not only for trail scrapes, but for minor cuts (including those nasty paper cuts), rashes, and any type of nasty skin condition that's relatively minor and which can use some protection. If you are not into band aids, these are a great alternative. Really helps soothe and limit inflammation. Highly recommended.

Great for emergencies

Hutchinson Fast'Air Latex Aerosol Inflator

Hutchinson Fast'Air Latex Aerosol Inflator

Rating for this product: 4 November 30, 2008

This stuff works super fast to seal holes and get you back on the road. Although it is small and lightweight, you sometimes need to pack a lot of this in to get good sealing. I have found however that regular car sealant for car tires works the same, though many would disagree with this. Does require a permanent sealing when you can get the job done right. This is a great product for emergencies to keep in an emergency bag however.

Fi'zi:k Bar:tape

Rating for this product: 2 November 30, 2008

I got this tape for a spare bike I don't use too much, and which I keep in a weatherproof outdoor shed. I put on the tape and was really impressed. After a few months though noticed the tape cracking. It wasn't even winter! I should write the company for a refund! Not recommended unless this was just a fluke or a bad batch.

Very Soft & Cozy

Cocoon CoolMax Travel Blanket

Cocoon CoolMax Travel Blanket

Rating for this product: 4 November 29, 2008

This is a very lightweight, soft, and cozy blanket. It really helps make a trip more comfortable. The blanket is light, very light however-so you still need to wear a sweater or other warm clothing underneath. My niece found this, and now adores it too. Seems to be a great baby blanket. Has held up well after numerous washings, and has not piled.

Great School/Travel Notebag

The North Face Base Camp Messenger Bag

The North Face Base Camp Messenger Bag

Rating for this product: 5 November 29, 2008

This bag is really not designed for the backcountry or for heavy travel. It's great for city or cit-suburban travel. I bought the bag to carry books, a computer, papers, and daytime things (brown bag lunch, tissues, etc.) and it has been amazing. The fold over snaps keep the lid secure, and the outer material is a heavyweight and durable synthetic. The bag has many pockets that easily store and organize everything you might be carrying. The shoulder strap is really comfortable, and feels quite secure. This is great as a school bag, work bag, or for daytime use.

Icebreaker Glove Liner

November 28, 2008

I haven't seen any liners like this in any of the major children stores (like Children's Place, Gap Kids, or the like). I know some of the major ski/winter clothing dealers have kids gloves (North Face, Spyder) but I have not seen this particular product in children's sizes. I would try LLBean who might have something close.

Pacsafe RetractaSafe 100 Cable Lock

Pacsafe RetractaSafe 100 Cable Lock

Rating for this product: 5 November 26, 2008

This is an excellent lock. I bought it to lock my skis, poles, and equipment at ski resorts. The flexible cord easily goes around all of these, and secures my equipment tightly to prevent theft. This lock is also great as a substitute to other bulkier locks, especially for luggage or on the go, such as when you leave your luggage for temporary storage. Easy to control combo control. Cord is a bit thin though for more permanent storage.

Simple Bag

JanSport Laundry Bag

JanSport Laundry Bag

Rating for this product: 3 November 26, 2008

This bag has a cool color and simple pattern. I bought it for a friend who always complains about having stinky ski clothing in their suitcase. Unfortunately, this really is just a simple laundry bag. It apparently did not help to control or eliminate clothing odors. I would recommend buying a bag specifically designed for odor control, if that is what you are looking for. If you are looking for a simple (but nicely colored) bag, then this is for you.

Eagle Creek Comfort Plus Eye Shade

Eagle Creek Comfort Plus Eye Shade

Rating for this product: 4 November 26, 2008

This is the best eye mask I have had to date. It really is comfortable to wear unlike other masks that can have a string which digs into your face, or which may slip off during use. This one stays right in place, and really shuts out light. Seems to be made of durable materials, and it has held up well to a brief washing to clean.

Works Great

Eagle Creek Auto Dual Wattage International Converter Set

Eagle Creek Auto Dual Wattage International Converter Set

Rating for this product: 5 November 26, 2008

This set is great. It easily converts wattage from standard US/North American wattage to international. I have used this set repeatedly, and have been pleased every time. The adapters fit most appliances and wall sockets, and the main converter works with most small to medium plug-ins. After numerous trips the equipment still looks new. There were no chemical or "burnt rubber" smells with this unit, unlike others I have tried.

Kelty Axle Rolling Gear Bag - 5300 cu in

Kelty Axle Rolling Gear Bag - 5300 cu in

Rating for this product: 3 November 26, 2008

I have owned other Kelty bags, and I am a bit disappointed with this one. The material/workmanship is a bit less secure than in other bags. After just two or three short trips, it is already showing signs of wear by the handles. The bag has alot of storage space, but I would caution anyone from filling it fully, as an airplane might not let you bring it on board. It is lightweight and good for travel in the winter to ski destinations. Fits a good few sweaters, pair of boots, some accessories, and things like hats and gloves for a trip, quite easily. Would recommend either another Kelty bag, or another brand however, especially considering this bags high price.

Really bright

Brunton L3 3-Watt LED Headlamp

Brunton L3 3-Watt LED Headlamp

Rating for this product: 4 November 26, 2008

Great headlamp. Comfortable to wear, and very bright. I was a bit surprised by this light when I turned it on. Compared to some of my previous Black Diamond's this one is right up there and compared to some models, even brighter than them. It's of average weight with the four batteries, however I think this would be really heavy and even uncomfortable with the attached C batteries. The regular batteries last quite long. My only complaint is with the focus of the light. It is somewhat of a narrow beam, so if you are looking for a wider beam for night-hiking this might not be the perfect light for you. Great for cave explorers.

Metolius Belay Glove

Rating for this product: 5 November 26, 2008

I had a pair of gloves 2x the price that were nothing on these. They are comfortable, and really provide excellent traction on rope and equipment. Dirty, wet, or dusty ropes are no problem for these. I haven't washed them yet, so I don't know how much grip or security I will loose, but for the price, I'm really pleased.

Brave Soldier Endurance Pack

Rating for this product: 3 November 26, 2008

This worked as advertised, and as expected. It's a bit pricey however, and really did not seem to be any more effective than any other standard balm or lotion. Cannot tell you how it was against UVA/B rays, but again, I don't know if the price really justifies the purchase.

Really useful for emergency splint needs where traditional splints would be too difficult to use or transport. Great for those long hikes, backcountry travel, and anytime when your out away from society. Makes putting two sticks together seem archaic.

Victorinox Climber Swiss Army Knife

Victorinox Climber Swiss Army Knife

Rating for this product: 3 November 24, 2008

Swiss army knives are great. They are reliable, and if maintained perform well for many years. This knife has some of the most essential tools, such as the straight blade, scissors, and file. It does basic, all-around jobs. It is very useful for keeping in the trunk, in a weekend-bag, or the like. I would recommend one of the more specific and detailed camping knifes for longer trips, or trips where you might need access to more tools.

Lifeline Base Camp First-Aid Kit - 171 Pieces

Rating for this product: 4 November 24, 2008

As the description says, this kit is great for a base kit, or just to keep in the trunk. Has lots of bandages, lots of supplies, and all the basics. While not for extended trips, or high-impact activities because of it's limited supply, this kit is great for a starter kit on a trip. The supplies I got with mine were all top-of-the line. Panaracer Fire XC Pro MTB Tire - 26x2.1in

Rating for this product: 4 November 21, 2008

Althoguh I do not like these as much as the Maxis Ignitor, these seem to perform well in the all-mountain category. These tires seem to supply enough grip for most needs, though I do not feel they provide as much downhill speed as their competitors. Lots of traction on rock, less certain traction on mud, sand, and wet conditions. Good value for the price, and overall good tire, but can use some tweaking.

This pillow is comfortable, but to be honest, is nothing special over other microfiber pillows I have had. The pillow sagged after a couple nights use, and really was hard to get into that "comfortable groove." Would not recommend over other microfiber pillows. If traveling, would highly recommend either memory foam, or latex foam which provides excellent support, comfort, and which retains its shape, even when stuffed into a suitcase.

Mountain Hardwear Stance Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 1 November 21, 2008

These pants were really disappointing. I have lots of MH stuff, but after getting these really cheap at the end of the season, am very disappointed. I just used them for the first time, and even though it's Rai****, these pants leaked terribly. I got really wet on my bum. The pants seem strong, but I already have a pull on my left leg.
