Perfect Jacket

Mountain Hardwear Synchro Softshell Jacket - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Synchro Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 28, 2008

I'm a runner. I run ultras and the only thing I will not run in is lightning. I have been on the quest for the perfect jacket. Jackets sold in running stores just don't cut it for me. They don't hold off the wind, water or cold long enough for me with the miles I put in.

That said, I have found the perfect jacket. I have run in low 20s (I'm in Arkansas, yet to hit the teens) with bone chilling winds and I have stayed very comfortable. I sweat heavy and don't notice it. THe jacket breathes very well and does a great job of blocking the wind.

I HATE the cold and this jacket has kept me very warm. I wear a baselayer underneath it and I'm fine.
I do wish it had pit zips but this jacket wasn't made for runners so I can't complain there. However, I have found by leaving the pockets open my body breathes a little better.

Great Jacket for a Great Price

The North Face Apex Bionic Jacket - Men's

The North Face Apex Bionic Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 28, 2008

This is my casual go to jacket for a night out. For heavy aerobic activities, I'm using Mountain Hardwear's Synchro Jacket. For the Apex, I bought last year's on a $77 close out price. Hey for that, you can't go wrong. It's not as warm as the Synchro but it does block the wind very well. It's comfortable and does exactly what I bought it for. Plus, it looks really cool (kinda Han Solo-ish from Empire Strikes Back--yuk yuk).

I've worn it sitting still for college football games, chillin' on the deck, etc. and have been comfortable in 30, 40 and 50 degree weather. Of course, you gotta remember to layer or you probably will get cold anything under 40...

WOW!

The North Face Arnuva 50 BoaTrail Running Shoe - Men's

The North Face Arnuva 50 BoaTrail Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 28, 2008

I'm in love with this shoe. I just bought this year's newer model after putting 500 miles on the one shown here. I run a mix of trails and roads and I've got to agree with metaljonez when he says the sole is extremely soft--you'll feel the rocks if you don't watch your step. The newer model is a little stiffer there so hopefully problem solved. I just finished a marathon two weeks ago in these shoes and it is the first marathon where my feet were not sore at the end--seriously--the cushioning in these is great (I'm small 5'8 150 so bigger folks may or may not experience the same cushion).

These shoes have held up to pounding training runs, mud, rain, etc. and nothing has fallen apart. I love the boa lacing. Happy Trails! 4 stars because rocks can hurt you and if a shoe is going to be advertised for trails, it needs to have more protection.....
