Pow Gloves Liner Glove

Pow Gloves Liner Glove

Rating for this product: 5 January 14, 2012

These liners look, feel, and wear better than my pricier liners from other big time outdoor clothing names. The grip material and coverage is simply superb. Holding my stainless steel thermal mug or driving in these is no sweat compared to some of my gripless liners.

The material feels very high quality and soft against the skin. The stitching seems first-rate and I haven't found any danglies or loose threads at all.

I wore these on a 30 minute walk in 20F weather with a mild breeze the other night and my hands got a little chilled. That's pretty good for a lightweight liner at this price with these features!

Black Diamond Mercury Mitten

Black Diamond Mercury Mitten

Rating for this product: 5 January 14, 2012

These things are simply ridiculous. I skied with these all day long in 10-15F weather before windchill and my hands were never cold once.

As others have noted, the trigger finger in the liner is a little odd, but I like how BD made the liner and shell large enough to accommodate those who don't wish to use the trigger finger. I prefer to use it because it gives me a better frame of reference of where my fingers are in the mitt and where I should be putting my grip. Your mileage may vary.

Killer Sweater

Patagonia Lambswool Crew Sweater - Men's

Patagonia Lambswool Crew Sweater - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 24, 2011

I'm about 5'7", 175 and the Medium size of this sweater fits me well. In terms of style, this is a great piece that you can wear to work, afterhours, or out in the wild. I would characterize the fabric weight as medium-heavy.

Functionally, I find that this piece works as a solid midlayer underneath a shell down to about 20F or so. You may be able to get away with it at slightly lower temps if you are a really hardy soul.

People in the market for a cheaper, slightly lighter sweater should probably look at the North Face Fairfax. Be aware that piece runs HUGE versus the listed size.

Solid Midweight Sweater

The North Face Fairfax Crew Sweater - Men's

The North Face Fairfax Crew Sweater - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 24, 2011

This is a nice mid-weight sweater that wears well around the office, on the town, and in the wild. The main reason I'm only giving it 4 stars is that it runs HUGE. I am 5'7, 175 lb. and the Medium fits me like an extra large. Small fits me the way I would expect a Medium to fit.

If you're looking for a heavier wool sweater I'd recommend the Patagonia Lambswool crew. That piece runs much truer to size, but it is also almost 2x the price of the Fairfax.

Cheers!

Patagonia MLC Burrito Bag - 2746cu in

October 1, 2010

The Burrito MLC will fit under the seat in front of you, but there are two caveats. If you stow the MLC so the short side is parallel to your legs it may encroach on your neighbor's footspace and engender hard feelings. If you stow the MLC so that the long side is parallel to your legs it may protrude far enough that the flight attendant will accost you.

Great glove!

Cloudveil Troller Glove - Men's

Cloudveil Troller Glove - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 29, 2009

I love this simple, straightforward pair of gloves. They are very well made. The S size feels as though it was designed for the length and width of my fingers and hands.

The liner feels great against my skin, and it keeps me warm down to 20F. The glove gets a bit nippy at 15F. These gloves also give me good dexterity, and I can manipulate all but the finest zipper pulls while wearing them.

The gauntlets are long and wide enough to fit over most jacket cuffs yet they are narrow enough to stay fairly secure. Some may long for details such as pullcords, but I admire the lack of things to fuss with or break in this simple glove design.

Marmot Gunsight Component Jacket - Men's

January 21, 2009

Steve,I'm 5'7", 175 and around 40" in the chest. I own the Gunsight in men's medium and I find the cut a bit on the generous side. Based on my experience my opinion is that the Gunsight is more of a casual cut.I'd also like to add that the jacket is top quality. When you put it on it feels as though you're being enveloped by a piece that will last for years of heavy action.

Utterly Brilliant Jacket

Marmot Guides Down Sweater - Men's

Marmot Guides Down Sweater - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 14, 2009

This piece is fantastic. You can wear nothing but a t-shirt underneath in 15-20F weather and it will feel like it's sunny and 70F inside this jacket. I also like the fact that this down jacket is not overly bulky, like some other popular pieces I could name.

I also want to point out the ultra low-pile fleece lining around the collar. This detail *makes* the coat. I can't get over how great it feels when I've got the neck zipped to the top.

Outstandingly Versatile Pack

The North Face Yavapai Backpack - 1830cu in

The North Face Yavapai Backpack - 1830cu in

Rating for this product: 4 December 23, 2008

I've owned a Yavapai for close to 4 years and it's been an excellent daypack throughout. The design is well-thought out and there are plenty of pockets to keep you organized. The harness is also very comfortable to wear and the semi-rigid back helps buffer funky shaped loads. This pack is equally at home commuting, camping, hiking, or around campus. However, I am only giving it four stars because the stitching around the top grab handle is beginning to let go. I feel this detail could've been executed more sturdily.

Former skeptic, now a believer!

CW-X Expert Tight - Men's

CW-X Expert Tight - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 22, 2008

Initially I was skeptical regarding the premise behind the CW-X product line. Eventually, I decided to purchase the Expert tights and one of the CW-X long sleeve tops.

I have been wearing both products during my cold weather runs and downhill skiing. They have made a believer out of me!

These tights look well-made to my eye, and the material feels good against my skin. They do a good job of moderating temperature underneath my outer shell. I feel as though my stamina holds up better during activity, and I feel much less wear and tear the next day.

So why only 4 stars? I do have a small issue with the length of these tights. I am 5'7", 175 and I wear these in men's S. Even at that size the knee cutouts tend to ride a bit low. I can control this somewhat by bunching the fabric in the thigh area.
