Short answer is the only part that should be heated is the bottom and open fire cooking is not a good idea, however if you scoop out the hot coals from the fire to cook on I think you should be fine.Hope that helps.Here is what I found by digging around on the CSI website. Due to the lightweight nature of outdoor cookware and the difficult to control, high temperature design of most backpacking stoves, the pieces are much easier to overheat than your pots and pans at home. When cooking, never heat GSI Outdoors cookware to extreme temperatures or allow it to boil dry. Typically, medium and low heat work best. Pot and Strainer lid intended for stovetop use only. Do not allow the flames from your stove to extend beyond the base of the cookware. Not for use with microwave ovens, conventional ovens or open campfires. Handle may become hot when cooking. Always use caution when grasping handle. Never expose handle to direct flame.
