Sea to Summit did it right!

Sea To Summit TkIII Sleeping Bag: 12 Degree Down

Rating for this product: 5 October 30, 2011

Bought this for my wife to use backpacking and hut trekking: what a great choice! Right out of the box I could see the thought and care that went into this bag. The accompanying storage, stuff and wash bags are sturdy and well designed. The bag itself has a tough exterior and soft lining. It is roomy and closes down to hold in the heat. The zippers are snag-proof and sturdy...everything in this design seems to be meant for long-term, no-hassle use. Stuffing down the bag, it got to the size of a child's soccer ball: a little bulkier than I thought a bag of this size and rating should be, but not bad. This is a great purchase!

different than expected

The North Face Sentinel Thermal Jacket - Men's

The North Face Sentinel Thermal Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 31, 2010

when i researched this, i couldn't find one in stores to try on- so i took a leap of faith and ordered one. based on description, i was expecting a heavier insulation....this is fairly lightweight. it is perfect if you're in motion...not so warm if standing still for a long period. it totally sheds wind and breathes out body heat & perspiration very well. sheds water fairly well (like any softshell). size XL fit me at 6'1" and 230#...an athletic fit, not much room for layering. not quite what expected, but a very functional piece for cold weather activity

original good, titanium better

Snow Peak GigaPower Windscreen

Rating for this product: 3 August 30, 2010

This piece saves fuel, boils faster, and works in the wind. That said; it is heavy and is tricky to install on the stove when you're cold and and tired. Can't do much about the install....but, if you use this as a template, you can cut one out of the snow peak titanium trek bowl ($15.95) that weighs .6 oz instead of 2 oz. All you need is a dremel with a cutting wheel (you'll go through about 5 heavy duty discs) and grinding stone as well as a steady hand and some patience. Just finished mine- STURDY, LIGHT and works as well as the heavy stainless original. Wish Snow Peak would manufacture one and save the hassle.

what a great product!

Therm-a-Rest NeoAir Sleeping Pad

Therm-a-Rest NeoAir Sleeping Pad

Rating for this product: 5 October 11, 2009

after playing with one in the store and being concerned with the thin materials, i went ahead and bought one anyhow...couldn't pass up weight savings/size/comfort. sooo glad i got this. i bought the sz large-same as my therm-a-rest trail pro. this is more comfortable, saves several POUNDS, not ounces. but most important, fits INSIDE my pack--strapping a conventional large pad to my pack is like running through the woods with a broom handle strapped sideways to your back. i'm 6'1" and 240#, the neoair has held up just fine so far and sleeps comfortably with me on my side.

Terrific value in a tent-a little short for 6'1

Kelty Teton 2 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Kelty Teton 2 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 5 June 14, 2009

I bought this as a solo tent because of the weight and the fact that kelty usually makes a solid product (also have a gunnison 2.1-great tent!). when it arrived, i found it was everything i needed...but my feet and head lightly touched the end walls when in my sleeping bag. wet bag= no bueno. SOLUTION: the fly that runs high up on the ends is guyed-out dead center- i sewed a tab of doubled over web-strap to the outside of the tent body right where the dark floor meets the light body. used a length of 1/8" shock cord and tied a short loop through the tab and out to the guy line (very modest tension, without depressing the angle of the guy line much). this pulled the end walls out just enough for plenty of head and foot room-problem solved! a little seam seal on the tab i sewed and then tested it on a windy day for a few hours under the sprinkler-no leaks. hey, for just over a hundred bucks-why not!
