DAKINE Pipe Snowboard Bag

January 2, 2012

165 Dakine Pipe Snowboard bag, with my 159 Ride DH 2.1 and Union Contact Pro Bindings.

This is a great day-use bag to keep the everyday beatings off of your equipment.

The zippers are overbuilt & stout, which is everything you could ask for in a bag like this.
As shown there is plenty of extra room in my bag if I should choose to fill it with extra gear.

I would not reccomend this bag for airline Travel, as it is not padded. (look at the Dakine Tour model for this)

Overall this bag is a 5-star item for what it is. A light-day-use board bag with plenty of room.

Jones Snowboards The Hovercraft Snowboard

December 30, 2011

160 Jones Hovercraft Topsheet.
My board came with the Red base.

Haven't ridden the board as of yet, but thankfully the Magne-Traction is VERY mellow.

So Far So Good

Union Contact Pro Snowboard Binding

Rating for this product: 4 January 2, 2012

2011's winter season has been rough in terms of snow thus far, so these bindings haven't been fully broken in quite yet.
However, they have seen plenty of use.

These are my Union Contact Pro's, size Large mounted on a Ride DH 2.1 Wide.

My favorite feature of these is the ankle strap. Union hit a home-run here. The padding and form molds great into my ankle, and hasn't given me any pain or discomfort at all since new.

The heelcup, baseplate, and highback feel plenty strong and responsive.

The Toe piece feels AWESOME!
I know there are some negative comments in terms of the toe piece, so here is my breakdown:

-The cap over the toe where the binding is split feels fabulous. It forms great to my boot, and gives great hold and pressure backwards into the bindings. The comments are in regards to the ladder buckle.

On the ankle strap there is a quick release tab. On the toe-peice there is not. You have to fold the ladder strap awkardly. I wish that the toe strap did not operate like this, and simply had the quick release tab just as the ankle strap.

I have not had any issues with the toe ladders not holding or breaking, and they don't feel as though they were poorly made to me. It's just a different release system.

4 star binding for me. 99% there, I just wish the toe strap was an identical release to the ankle strap.

Love Them.

DAKINE Ninja Studs

DAKINE Ninja Studs

Rating for this product: 5 January 2, 2012

These Dakine Ninja Stars are my favorite stomp-pads I've ever found.

They can be stuck individually wherever you want to, to get the best grip. I actually decided to put half of the pack on the switch-side, as I can load the lifts switch or regular.. (decreasing wear on my boots from lift-rest!)

They provide just the right amount of grip and abrasion, without sticking up too far and aggressively like some other stomp pads.
The shape of the stud sheds snow quickly if you have some packed into the tread on your boot.

Not all of Dakine's equipment is top-notch, but these sure are in my book.

Not worth it.

Sierra Designs Solar Fusion Down Jacket - Men's

Sierra Designs Solar Fusion Down Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 December 30, 2011

The jacket only has down fill on the "core" areas, leaving the extremities out to freeze.
Only the chest, back, and half of your arms are covered with down. Leaving your kidneys and bicepts without any insulation.
That's all fine with me, maybe people want things like that, but it should be documented in the manufacturer's description. Furthermore, there are no photos showing this. The only photos make one assume that the jacket is fully-downed.

The loft is there on this jacket, but unfortunatley it comes in a lofty price-tag.

I returned the item, even though it was on a heavily-discounted sale.

Anon Figment Goggle

Anon Figment Goggle

Rating for this product: 3 February 19, 2011

The frames are a good size, and fit probably a large segment of faces. The frames are of good quality and don't have any functionality issues.
My only complaint comes from the lenses. Taking a lens out and putting a different one in is brutal. It takes alot of force and time to change a lens.
in paticular the nubs on the bottom of the frame are the ones that are borderline impossible to get into the lens when changing.

Merrell Moab GTX XCR Shoe - Men's

Merrell Moab GTX XCR Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 25, 2011

My first pair of these shoes lasted 6 years, wearing them nearly every single day.
I finally had to buy another pair, Hopefully they last just as long.

As with anything with longevity, these shoes take a while to break in and feel comfortable.
But, once they're broken in, they will provide some serious mileage.

Work Great

CamelBak Cleaning Tablets - 8 Pack

CamelBak Cleaning Tablets - 8 Pack

Rating for this product: 5 January 5, 2011

They work great, but cleaning your camelbak is way-too close to doing dishes.
Not enjoyable, but a necessity of life.

The tabs work great to get the black mold out if it's been sitting for a while.

Not For Skiers

Oakley Mystic Pant - Men's

Oakley Mystic Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 February 25, 2009

I ski and snowboard. I think these pants are the bomb for snowboarding, but not for skiing.
Reason being that the inside ankle area cuts very easily on the edges of your skis.

Salomon Suspect Ski

February 24, 2009

Oh yeah, they definitely can be. May feel weird at first though.---------I have found that center mounting interferes the most with skiing on steep terrain, I have noticed the tails getting hung up on the slope above me._______Completely agree, I demoed center-mounted suspects, and skied Copper bowl on about 3" fresh powder, They really needed to be moved back. I also preferr the Volkl Bridge over these any day of the week for "all mountain" skis. The bridge is more dough though.

Volkl Wall Alpine Ski

The Volkl Bridge is a much better choice for "all mountain" than either the Wall or Suspect.

Oakley Mystic Jacket - Men's

February 24, 2009

No, The Oakley Mystic jacket has a fixed hood. It has a magnet that keeps the hood pinned to your back when not using it, so it doesn't flap in the breeze like your cheeks from the Wind G-Forces.
