How stiff are these? We have a lot of hard pack (cough..ice..cough) where I am from and need something that can hold a good edge at speed. I am considering these or potentially the Volkl Kendo.

Stoic Bombshell Jacket - Men's

Shocking as this may be, I am a little confused... Is this a hardshell or a soft shell? One of the other reviews claims this is more soft shell than hard shell, but it is not in the soft shell section of the site.
