Marmot Approach Softshell Vest - Men's
October 5, 2011
What makes you think a soft shell vest would keep you dry during extended actual rain? It's an insulation piece with water and wind resistant properties.
I suppose you're also upset that your arms got wet?

Mammut Brisk Softshell Jacket - Men's
August 17, 2011
How does the Brisk compare in warmth and pack-ability/lightness versus the Marmot Driclime Windshirt or Catalyst jackets?
By spec it's only a couple oz heavier...I love an ems-version of the windshirt that I have for its warmth, versatility, and lightweight pack-ability, but it's time for a replacement, and this jacket looks interesting for the extra stretch and perhaps nicer feel? Feedback?

Sherpa Adventure Gear Lungta Hybrid Pant - Men's
July 13, 2011
The sizing chart is missing inseam measurements. Anyone have a clue?
I'm specifically looking for sizing for a 34 waist and 30 inseam...but I'm sure everyone would appreciate an updated sizing chart.

The North Face Cipher Hybrid Jacket - Men's

Thanks Peter.
Are we talking a few weeks or a couple months for TNF to turn it around? It may have to wait until mid summer...

The North Face Cipher Hybrid Jacket - Men's
April 29, 2011
This is generally a great jacket for its intended purpose. Served as a good intermediate layer while trekking in Nepal and a light layer for windy days in Thailand. The hood is nice when the weather is unsettled and you might need a little extra coverage. Not sure I really need the extra breathability of the lighter/stretchy sleeves, but it does breath well for high output activities. For low exertion efforts, I often reach for a jacket with more full protection.
One issue though: Does anyone else have issues with the velcro tabs on the cuffs? I think I have last year's version and the velcro isn't very sticky, and tends to come undone/flop around while running, xc skiing, and even walking sometimes. It seems like too small issue to return the jacket (as I've considered), but it can be pretty annoying on this otherwise nice jacket.

Garmont Ener-G Telemark Boot - Men's
December 23, 2009
How does the 2010 version differ from the 2009 version (aside from color)? I think there's a new liner and maybe a new tongue...what else?
Basically, would I notice the difference between the two?
I'd like to try the new Voodoo, but think the last is going to be too narrow for my foot.
Thanks.

Stoic Merino Bliss 150 Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's
November 19, 2009
I love my wool shirts but...I have an icebreaker and after a year or so, the wrist cuffs seem to be stretching out from pushing them up during trail runs once I warm up...
Anyone have a longer-term durability review of the elastic in the sleaves of this woollie?

G3 Targa Ascent S/S elle Telemark Ski Binding - Women's
May 18, 2009
I believe that the elle version has shorter cables for the (generally) smaller female feet. You should be able to match your sole length to the cable size if you research the G3 site.

Volkl Polar Bear Telemark Ski
March 29, 2009
Given that this is the old mantra shape/design w/o the metal, how does it do holding an edge on firm/icy conditions. Chopped up crud? I'm assuming powder performance is great.
Comparison to the G3 saint or reverend? Storm BC?

K2 Mt. Baker Alpine Touring Ski
March 28, 2009
I've got a similar Q. Have considered both skis, and also the Karhu Spire.
I see the upside of converting the Work Stinx, is that when my A. Kailas tele set-up dies or I want a fatter AT set-up, i could convert the Work Stinx as tele w/o re-drilling. Anyone ski the Work Stinx as AT? Any comparison between these K2 skis and the karhu spire?
Thanks.

Garmont Endorphin Mg Alpine Touring Boot - Men's
February 2, 2009
I have heard that the Garmont shells/liners realy just come in one-size jumps and they rely on the thermofit to dial the fitting. Is this true?If so, would the 29.5 size be the same as the 29 or the 30? Thanks CoryAlso. I have a pressure point on the outside of my foot, just forward and above the ankle pivot "axle". Does anyone, know if the shell could be blown out in that spot by a good bootfitter, and not interfere with the walk mode?

Dynafit ZZero 4 C-TF Alpine Touring Boot
January 28, 2009
I'm just crossing into AT from boarding for 20 years so I'm just getting used to in-bound blacks. I demo'd these boots this past weekend. I have somewhat wide/flat feet, so it took a little while to get the forefoot dialed. I might have missed the forward lean adjuster, but I felt like I wanted more lean but the stiffness at the shin was painful and never settled into a comfortable spot. I was bruised by the end of the day. Anyone else have this problem or a solution?
