Mountain Hardwear Skyledge 2.1 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

December 15, 2011

I got the answer from mountain hardwear customer support. This tent is not built for more the 40 mph. Anything more then 40 mph could destroy the tent.

Mountain Hardwear Skyledge 2.1 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

December 9, 2011

How much wind can it stand?

I am planning a trip to Patagonia. Is this tent be able to hold up to 70 mph wind? It says it's very strong, so I guess you did some test on that. How much wind can it stand? I know it's a 3 three season tent with lot of mesh etc. But I don't care if it can stand up to strong wind because I want to travel light as much as possible.

Big Agnes Fly Creek Tent: 2-Person 3-Season

Big Agnes Fly Creek Tent: 2-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 3 November 15, 2011

This tent is light and nothing more. The biggest issue is the poor wind resistance from both sides because the roof pole is very weak in that direction in strong wind. Used it on a 900 meter mountain with strong wind, I couldn't fall asleep during the night, the 'roof' pole was twisted so much by wind from one side that I almost think it will break. I ended up sitting in the tent using my back to hold the tent for whole night. It has good wind resistance from tail though. But wind does change direction from time to time. Other than that, it's not easy to set up. The inner and outer must be linked by 4 clips on both sides and it's hard to operate in blowing wind and low temp. I know it's a 3 season tent but I think it's better used in very low altitude with no or very little wind or you are sure the wind won't change direction so you can put the tail toward the wind. Consider Terra nova laser competition with similar weight but much sturdier construction.

Mountain Hardwear Shadowland Jacket - Men's

October 11, 2011

Write your question here...How about the wind resistance and warmth of this jacket compared to Marmot driclime windshirt? I got Marmot one, but it's really ugly (:-) other than that it's terrific. OK I am a little picky). Found this jacket looks good. So how about the wind resistance and warmth?

Arc'teryx Venta SV Softshell Jacket - Men's

August 16, 2011

just got this jacket. noticed that the wind flap behind the main zipper is a little bit of narrow. I just compared this with my wife's Venta SV. The wind flap on women's version is significantly wider to cover the main zipper very well. The wind flap on mine just covers the main zipper with about only 3 millimeter beyond the main zipper. Is it a version difference (men's vs women's) or I got something with defect?

Patagonia R3 Fleece Jacket - Men's

December 11, 2010

i think it's true to size, because i have a r4 of size small and it's a little bit short for me and I got this r3 of size M and it fits perfect on me.
Besides, it's very warm. i think it's comparable to r4 in term of warmth in condition of no wind. And r3 also blocks descent amout of wind. And it breaths much much better than r4 when i am active while r4 usually makes me wet from inside.

Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero SL Down Parka - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero SL Down Parka - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 16, 2009

It's a good parka in general. Warm, waterproof, reinforcement at key areas. The lengh is just right, enough to cover my butt. Originally i'd get a subzero jacket. but i know it might be too short from reviews, so i get this parka. The only problem is that i found a little down 'escaping' sometimes, especially in the two pockets. The main zipper is fine when you learn how to operate it.
