Patagonia Down Sweater Jacket - Men's

Now why would you ever a high end piece of equipment inside a 3-in-1. 3-in-1's are a mark or horrible design/function/practicality.

Overhyped, overpriced

The North Face Denali Fleece Jacket - Men's

The North Face Denali Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 1 October 27, 2008

Though it never claims to be a techincal jacket, the Denali is by far the worst jacket for the money you can buy. The only positive it has is it is a 300 weight fleece. But for $165 retail, you can get a Windwall 1 or 2 or pay $195 for an Arc'teryx Covert Cardigan, which is not techincal, but still warm and very fashionable.

I'd give it a zero if I could.

CAMP USA Tri Cam

CAMP USA Tri Cam

Rating for this product: 5 October 27, 2008

I never leave home without these guys. The pink tri fits everywhere I need it to. I have yet to take a whipper on one of these guys, but just having it jam into place in active or passive mode puts my mind at ease. Perfect for those weird pockets that a cam or nut won't do.

Amazing for Cracks

Five Ten Piton Climbing Shoe

Five Ten Piton Climbing Shoe

Rating for this product: 5 October 27, 2008

I got these little guys before my trip to Moab and Devils Tower and I was so impressed. The rubber on them are absolutly amazing as they stick to anything really. I was also amazed how well they edged and how comfy they were (you know...relativly speaking.) My only complaint is the heel around the leather digs in beyond belief at first. Luckly I broke them in at Moab and not the tower. I just folded the pull tabs inside the shoe so it wouldn't dig into my achilles. Needless to say, my first day with them my heels were a bloody mess, but once they broke in they were perfect. Needless to say, I will give it a 5 because break-in time shouldn't go against it.

Happy Climbing

Impulse Buy, but well worth it.

Evolv Defy Climbing Shoe

Evolv Defy Climbing Shoe

Rating for this product: 5 October 27, 2008

As a climbing instuctor at a camp for 2 months, I decided to get a pair of Velcro's of Mocs. I love my Pitons, but it was too much shoe for the day in day out climbing I did. I did not feel like blowing a $120 pair of shoes for all day 5.6's or 7's so I got these puppies. At first I was skeptical as they were actaully comfy (for ANY SHOE) and I had only heard of eVolvs a couple of times. Pretty much the guy sold me after I climbed on there wall and their edging was amazing for a velcro. The smearing isn't like my Pitons, but hey I can't complain. With 10 to 20 climbs a day for, 6 days a week, 2 months this year, these guys have help up like champs. They are my go to shoe unless I really need edging and smearing power. GREAT SHOE!

Only TNF I own...

The North Face Ski Padded Sock - Men's

The North Face Ski Padded Sock - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 27, 2008

I got these guys as swag from a clinic and I was highly skeptical about it, but I was climbing/hiking Mt. Washington later that week. I decided, seeing it was mid-febuary I would test them and I did not want to use my snowboarding socks. Needless to say, my feet were warm ar dry the whole time...or so I thought. I figured since I did not have problems with my feet being cold my socks were dry. When I was done my hike in 0 degree weather, I took my boots off and noticed my boots were soaking wet and so were my socks. I would have never known as my feet were so toasty and warm. So glad I own these guys!

Osprey Packs Talon 11 Backpack - 600-700cu in

Osprey Packs Talon 11 Backpack - 600-700cu in

Rating for this product: 5 October 27, 2008

I've had my Osprey for almost 2 years now. I love it so much. I bought it for a multi-purpose bag, for running, biking, boarding, and even school. Its just big enough for my laptop or one class of books (thats all I carry anyways.) I have yet to find something wrong with it.

Dare to say better than Arc'teryx

Mountain Hardwear Synchro Softshell Jacket - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Synchro Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 27, 2008

Don't get me wrong, Arc'teryx Venta is a GREAT softshell, but the Synchro is just awesome overall. Really durable, really breathable, WATERPROOF, windproof, and comfy. When I took my trip to Moab, my climbing partner and I got stuck in a downpour. His Apex Softshell kept the water out for maybe a good 10 to 20 minutes. Me...BONE DRY except down my sternum where the water was rolling down my chin and down my jacket. I was cold though, but I did not think I would need to layer in a desert...I was wrong.

Could use a little warmer fleece, but I do get cold easy.

Great casual sweater

Arc'teryx Covert Cardigan - Men's

Arc'teryx Covert Cardigan - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 27, 2008

I cannot understand why people would give this such a low rating. IT NEVER CLAIMS TO BE A JACKET. That being said, it is a sweater, it is what Arc'teryx made it for, a casual sweat that is light, warm, and comfy. To judge it based on techincal outwear is LUDACRIS. Yes, its not windproof, waterproof, or even resistant, but it never ever claimed to be.

That being said, bomber sweater, I got it to stay warm and be able to wear it around and look civlized.

Petzl Myolite 3 Headlamp

Petzl Myolite 3 Headlamp

Rating for this product: 5 October 27, 2008

I love this thing because its simply, bright, and pretty darn weather resistant. The Halogen is great and focusing is a sinch. The LEDs are bright, but not overly. My one qualm about it is I wish it had a red LED option to read maps at night. But I guess its why they call it a Myolite 3 and no 4.

Great but...

Jetboil Classic Personal Cooking System

Jetboil Classic Personal Cooking System

Rating for this product: 3 October 27, 2008

I have to give this stove props for being lightweight and efficent in normal conditions. The boiling time is great no doubt about it. My problem though has to do with its "4 seasons" in which I will call B.S. My trip to Owls Head NH came with some negative degree weather. I was told to take my recently bought Jet Boil instead of my MSR. Needless to say, my Jetboil performed horrible. It took about 30+ minutes for my snow to melt and become warm. My stove was not the only one to perform lack luster, as everyone in our group had a Jetboil. Needless to say, we only had enough light to cook our food and we did not have the time, energy, or light to wait for another boil to put in our Nalagens for warmth that night.

Arc'teryx Titan Jacket - Men's

October 26, 2008

So I'm looking into a new snowboard jacket. I know all the techincal aspects of the Titan and I really want to get it, but I was just wondering if anyone has it and used it. I know it is a new jacket for this year, but I was hoping someone from up north may have gotten it and used it.
