CamelBak Octane 24 Hydration Pack - 1617cu in

CamelBak Octane 24 Hydration Pack - 1617cu in

Rating for this product: 5 March 28, 2012

The Octane 24 arrived and it is a really nice hydration pack with a robust feature set. To start out with, the Antidote reservoir provides a full 3 liter capacity, very useful. The right cargo pocket has a key clip, and the right shoulder strap has a tube trap. At the top there is a zipper pocket perfect for sunglasses and cell phone. The back has an exterior pouch that my cooking kit fits in comfortably. The inner compartment is plenty roomy enough for rain gear, a fleece, gloves, food and snacks, water filter, etc. The cargo pockets will hold small cameras, a GPS and/or compass and other small items.

The pack is lightweight, that's one of the key design features. However, it does not seem flimsy at all. The material light and strong. The stitching is high quality. I expect it to last. Also, the straps provide plenty of adjustment even for a big guy like me (6-1, 255 lbs). As I load it (light) it is plenty comfortable and doesn't shift around at all. It would not be so comfortable if it got heavy, but then again, its a hydration bladder, not a backpack.

For days in the outdoors it can't be beat. For overnighters I'll use my backpack. Very much worth taking a look at, this one.

Great gear!

SmartWool NTS Lightweight Bottom - Men's

SmartWool NTS Lightweight Bottom - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 23, 2011

I ordered these and a crew, both lightweight. They are perfect for me in north Alabama. Following the size chart's recommendations got me a good fit.

They are so comfortable that I have found myself not wanting to take them off. Amazingly comfortable, much different than the wool I grew up with.

Plenty warmth for my part of the country. I'm hooked.

Just Right!

SmartWool NTS Lightweight Crew - Men's

SmartWool NTS Lightweight Crew - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 23, 2011

After reading reviews for the medium weight version, it seemed like the lightweight might be a better choice for me in north Alabama. It turns out to have been a great decision.

I followed the chart for sizing, and am very happy with the way the crew fits. Plenty long enough for my 38" arms, and a lot of waist to stay tucked in.

In the upper 20s, which is a cold spell here, it served as a great underlayer while I hiked in the cold predawn to a photo shoot. That, a lightweight flannel shirt and a windbreaker, and my upper body stayed warm, even a little hot at times. Perfect!

After several washings, I notice no shrinkage. Plus, like all SmartWool, it feels great. I'm a believer!
