Good Bag

ALPS Mountaineering Slick Rock Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Primaloft

ALPS Mountaineering Slick Rock Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Primaloft

Rating for this product: 4 March 23, 2009

This is a good bag, but I'm not sure I would rate it as a 20 degree. I have used it as cold as 15 degrees (outside the tent) with good success, but my feet tend to be a little cold if it dips below freezing. This is a good bag for someone looking for a small and relatively light synthetic bag, but this is not the bag I would use to push the limits, it is really only comfortable to about 30 degrees. In the past I had heard some complaints about the durability of ALPS products, but this bag seems to stand up! All in all I would give this bag 3.5 to 4 out of 5 stars.

SOG Knives Flash II Knife

SOG Knives Flash II Knife

Rating for this product: 4 March 23, 2009

This knife was my daily carry knife for about three years. I work as a field biologist, so my tools see some heavy use. This knife's assisted open technology is really better then any other assisted knife I've owned or used. I compare it to a kershaw scallion that I bought and had to replace about 6 months later because the spring failed. I will agree with other users when they say the handle feels cheap, but I would contend that it is light and virtually unbreakable. The belt clip is very tight, but after three years it hasn't worked loose like CRKTs and Bucks I've carried. My one complaint is the blade has worked loose over the years. To take out the rattle I tightened the nut holding everything together but it hinders the assisted open function. However the loose blade doesn't effect the function of the knife at all, it is just me being picky. Over all a very functional knife.

Great Tent

Kelty Grand Mesa 2 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Kelty Grand Mesa 2 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 5 February 23, 2009

I've had this tent for a few years now and I've had great luck with it. I bought it because of it's size and light weight for a job I took in Yellowstone NP. I lived out of this tent for nearly three months, and it didn't leak once. On recent trips it has done equally as well, including a rain soaked trip through the presidentials in New Hampshire, and a two cold and rainy trips to the beach! The only thing I would change about this tent is giving it a larger vestibule. This tent has performed better then two eureka tents and a sierra design tent I had in the past.
