A little Risky

Sierra Designs Microlight Jacket - Men's

Sierra Designs Microlight Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 January 2, 2009

If you intend to take it backpacking. It does a good job with the rain, but only for a short time and a pretty light dose. Any real storm could be dangerous if this is all you have - I have had to camp early which is not something I like to do. The Hurricane Parka is a little heavier and more expensive, but much more adequate for backpacking. Great for day hikes and stuff like that though.

Sierra Designs Isotope Jacket - Men's

January 1, 2009

How waterproof is it? Would it protect you in a downpour (not counting condensation)? Sorry I don't really know what the waterproof rating means.

Awesome heavy pack

Gregory Palisade 80 Backpack - 4699-5370cu in

Gregory Palisade 80 Backpack - 4699-5370cu in

Rating for this product: 5 December 2, 2008

Fantastic pack - if you're carrying 1000 pounds of gear. The thing weighs almost seven pounds! If what you need is convenience, extreme durability, space, and comfortable fit, go ahead, it will do the job. But people have base pack weights that are less than this thing alone. That's why I returned it. If you can go light, this will support whatever you have. I'll second getting fitted. I did at REI which was great - I could load up my gear and go on a day hike with the option of returning it.

Absolutely the best

Marmot Hydrogen Sleeping Bag: 30 Degree Down

Marmot Hydrogen Sleeping Bag: 30 Degree Down

Rating for this product: 5 December 1, 2008

I got lucky getting this as a gift, so I didn't have to worry about the price. It seems to me, though, that you can get a pretty crappy bag for 200, and this is well worth the extra investment. Incredibly comfortable and warm for its weight. Just wanted to add my satisfaction to the others'. I'll never get another bag.

Mountain Hardwear Monkey Man Fleece Zip T - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Monkey Man Fleece Zip T - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 1, 2008

I have to give it five stars because it is such high quality and so comfortable, but I still can't see why anyone would get the T instead of the jacket. The incredibly soft fabric makes you constantly want front pockets, but they're not there. And the collars a bit weird. I would have gotten the jacket but I found this way on sale. Also, somebody said the neck was too large ...? There's a cinch on it with a drawstring toggle. I'm satisfied.

Great pad for 20 bucks

Therm-a-Rest Ridge Rest Sleeping Pad

Therm-a-Rest Ridge Rest Sleeping Pad

Rating for this product: 5 December 1, 2008

Super light, comfortable enough, adds a lot of warmth, and this thing has gone through a buttload of abuse - it looks like it's been through a paper shredder and it's been through three boys' entire backpacking careers of six years each and still works like a charm. I still use this all the time. Tip - Especially if you are tall, you can still get the short and then put any extra gear (like your pack) under your feet for the same comfort and warmth without extra cost or weight.

Big Agnes Seedhouse SL2 Super Light Tent: 2-Person 3-Season

November 4, 2008

I got the non-sl version, and it came with a 2' (about) pole and an extra long pole, about 6 or 7 feet. Is this included with the SL, and if so what are they used for?
