Hi Steve. To see if the beacon is still under warranty, go to http://backcountryaccess.com/images/TrackerWarrantyChart.pdf . After that, just call BCA customer service at 800-670-8735. If it's under warranty, then you're covered. If not, there will be a charge to cover the cost. Hope that helps!

Now that the Tracker2 is finally available, I would go ahead and pay the extra money ($45 more than the Tracker DTS). The Tracker2 is an incredibly fast and easy-to-use beacon and it has basically the same receive range as the Pieps DSP, which will cost you a lot more than $335.

No, the Tracker DTS does not revert to transmit after 10 minutes. However, it will revert to transmit after 5 minutes if you press the Options button when you turn it on.

Just open the battery compartment and look at the diagram. Only use AAA alkaline batteries; no lithium or rechargeables. Make sure the batteries are all of the same brand and shelf life, ie don't mix and match because the batteries will perform according to the weakest one. Read your manual, practice up, and have fun!

BCA offers two training DVD: "Tracker 101," which shows how to use your Tracker, and "Take Charge: Leading a Companion Rescue," which shows how to organize an avalanche rescue.
