Never Summer SL-R Snowboard

October 30, 2009

havent ridden this years slr which i heard is stiffer from last years. But if you want an all mountain board to play around with hit every bump along the trail and still have the stability to bomb down the mountain or hop on the terrain park and hit some big jumps you'll be good with the slr. If you feel like doing tricks and hitting the rails and boxes your better off with the evo-r. If I recall the evo wasnt as stable as the slr bombing down the hill. Slr is all around a good board for doing everything, minus rails.. not the greatest. If you just want to do runs and hit a bunch of the jumps the sl-r will do you well. Id suggest the 155 and Im a fan of the ride bindings so something like the rx or spi where its not super stiff but still responsive when your bombing a run.

Red Basic Impact Short - Men's

March 13, 2009

Size small. All the pads can be removed. However i dont feel these are that great. I own a pair and I think it caused more harm than good. They look great and seem like they will offer adequate protection, but after wearing these I had to get another better pair. I ended up with azzpadz but they arent sold on backcountry. Those offer better protection and cushion for your butt.

No insulation. (It does have insulation, not super thick, pretty low profile, but enough in the body and arms to keep you warm at freezing temps. Does help to have some layers underneath though.)

since you arent sure about the size of your face I would recommend going to a sports store or any store that has these goggles in stock and try them out on your face so you know exactly if they would fit or not instead of taking the gamble. However backcountry has an awesome lifetime return policy so you shouldnt have a problem returning them if you do buy them and they dont fit.

Huge Amazing Goggles

Electric EG2 Goggle

Electric EG2 Goggle

Rating for this product: 5 January 7, 2009

I had the opportunity to use these goggles during my last snowboarding trip. 1. These are huge and I absolutely love that. This increases your peripheral vision. You can barely see the frame when you put these on. It looks like you're wearing an fighter pilots helmet when you put these on. They are super comfy and do well in bright bluebird days. I own the oakley wisdoms and aframes and I wish I had these. They look amazing.

Arbor Crossbow Snowboard

January 6, 2009

You should have no problem with that setup especially since you are just starting. The flow bindings will actually help you save some time from strapping in. Since you are a skier you've seen all the snowboarding sitting down and strapping in. With the flows you can just step in and lock the high back in place. You just have to make sure you dial in and set your boot in the binding before you head to the mountain. Make sure it is all strapped in. The board is a good board. Heard lots of good stuff about arbor and I plan on trying out some of their equipment. So good luck and shred the mountain.

An ok goggle

Oakley O Frame Goggle

Oakley O Frame Goggle

Rating for this product: 3 November 29, 2008

These are an ok goggle from Oakley. This line doesnt compare to that of their higher end goggles. You dont get the circular lenses which provide distortion free viewing. What makes the wisdoms, aframes, and crowbars amazing goggles is the amazing clarity you get from their lenses. These are comfortable with the foam, but its not the same as their other products. These will do fine for what you need but you can get a better pair for much less if you check out other brands. If you just want the oakley name these will do, but once again go for their higher end stuff or check out other brands.

An ok sleeping pad

Therm-a-Rest Ridge Rest Sleeping Pad

Therm-a-Rest Ridge Rest Sleeping Pad

Rating for this product: 3 November 29, 2008

This is an ok sleeping pad. Adds an ok amount of cushion when sleeping. It does help with any annoying bumps and ruts on the ground when sleeping, but I would've preferred spending a few more bucks on a self inflating air pad. It is lightweight but does take up a lot of space, cant roll it tightly. It is a tough pad and will hold up to a lot of abuse.
This pad does provide some warmth from the ground. Pair this with a sleeping bag and you should be fine in any temp. It also protects your sleeping bag from packing out. If you need a cheap solution to a sleeping pad, it is better than the cheap blue foam pads, but Id prefer an air pad over this.

Great baselayer

The North Face XTC Midweight 1/4 Zip Pullover - Men's

The North Face XTC Midweight 1/4 Zip Pullover - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 28, 2008

I use this as my baselayer when snowboarding. Its great. Keeps me warm by wicking sweat away from my body. I stay warm and dry. This top is lightweight and feels very comfortable. I'm a small person so this top isn't snug on me, but the cut is great none the less. Ive worn it all day snowboarding and it doesn't stink, unlike my other clothing that ive used as baselayers in the past. I bought 2 of these for those longer snowboarding trips even though I'm sure the one would've been fine. I love how the shirt has a zip all the way up to the neck. Doesnt cut off like a crew shirt so it provides a bit more protection from the cold when I'm wearing a jacket. Go and buy some of these I'm sure you'll love them.

Giro Tuneups Wireless

November 24, 2008

Check how the earpads come on and off on your fuse. If the pads snap out by pulling on the earpads and the tab that goes in is a trapezoid shape then yes it the same and should fit. Look at the shape of the earpads in the picture. If its similar to yours minus the big circle in the middle it should be fine.

If your ear pads go in any of these ways you can get this setup.

Giro G9 Wireless Audio Series Helmet

November 19, 2008

This was supposed to answer the question below.. guess i pressed the wrong button.there is a wire that attaches to the ear pod which allows you to use the headphones to anything that plugs into a 3.5mm jack. It a useful feature esp if the batteries on the headphones die. you can still plug in ur music and use em. You wont however have a problem with the battery dying because I can use these headphones for like 3 days straight before needed to charge them. Standby on these things are like a week long.Once again to answer your question yes it does come with a wire.

Call quality is sketchy.. sometimes the caller comes in loud and clear and they have no problem hearing you, other times they have trouble hearing you. I have noticed however that you never have a problem hearing the caller. I have no idea where the mic is placed on the ear pod so i dont know how to focus your voice towards the mic. Had no problems pairing this with all the cell phones Ive tried. Pairs within a few seconds. Its main use however is to listening to music, which this absolutely excels in. If you pair this with a music phone, your music will come in loud and clear. No break ups in sound and range from source to these headphones is pretty good. I can get a good 30ft from my phone before the music starts breaking up.

Good big mat

Burton Medium Spike Mat

Burton Medium Spike Mat

Rating for this product: 4 November 18, 2008

This is a good big stomp pad. The clear model allows any design or graphic on your board to show through. Allows you to have the added benefit of a stomp pad without ruining the graphics on your board. The mat is soft rubber and not as grippy as the Dakine X mat, but it does its job well and its fairly big, so it provides a large surface area to place your foot on. The Scraper in the middle is good to remove all the stuck snow and ice on your boot before you strap in.

an ok pad

DAKINE Modular Mat Stomp Pad

DAKINE Modular Mat Stomp Pad

Rating for this product: 3 November 18, 2008

This is an ok stomp pad. I prefer the dakine x mat over this one. Its great that you can place the pads in whatever configuration you want but the small pieces that I had eventually fell off. The big middle piece stayed on fine and it does provide an excellent grip for a stomp pad but I still prefer the x mat over this one.

No Leak Problems Here

CamelBak Better Bottle w/ Bite Valve - .75L

CamelBak Better Bottle w/ Bite Valve - .75L

Rating for this product: 5 November 18, 2008

Ive had this bottle for a while now and I use it almost every day. Love camelbak and their products. The bite vale on this bottle is genius. I havent had any leak problems with this thing. I can throw it around and I still havent seen it leak. Maybe the others have a defective bottle, I dont know. Its great to be able to drink out of this bottle without having to tip the bottle up in the air. Simple just bite down on the bite valve and drink. The straw reaches all the way to the bottom so you have no problem getting every drop of water. The bottle is BPA free so thats a plus. The rubber bite valve and bottle dont leave any taste to your water. The same cant be said for the straw that is included. If any water is hanging around inside the straw it may leave a little plastic taste, but as soon as you take that small sip the taste will go away. This only happens if you leave water in there for a long time. There is a small loop at the top of the bottle which is great if you need to clip the bottle to your pack when your on a hike. Overall Im very happy with this purchase. Great buy in my opinion.

Newer Wisdoms Helmet Friendly

Oakley Wisdom Goggle DO NOT USE

Oakley Wisdom Goggle DO NOT USE

Rating for this product: 5 November 17, 2008

The newer Oakley wisdoms with the o matter helmet straps work very well with any helmet. Fits perfectly.. the old straps had the hard plastic ends that wouldnt fit any helmet you put on and the straps were short. Look for the newer ones. The old ones look like a triangle with three studs where there straps are and a circle where frame meets the strap. The new straps are very flexible and have the rubber along the inside strap so it wont slip off your helmet. Look for these straps.
As for the goggles. They are an awesome looking goggle. They fit great and perform even better. The optics of these goggles have perfect clarity. The assortment of lenses to choose from depending the weather conditions outside are great. The lenses will stratch if you wipe the inside while it is wet, but oakley warns you about this. So make sure its dry before you start wiping those smudges away. Use the provided storage bag to wipe your lenses and you wont have to worry about putting any new scratches on your goggles. They triple layer foam fleece wick away sweat from your face. The air surge ports keep the air flowing preventing any fogging in the goggle.
The frame is a nice polyurethane lens which means it holds it shape pretty well but still has some flex to it. These things dont feel like your cheap 20 goggles.
There are a bunch of other goggles out in the market today. But you can never go wrong with oakley and their product line. They have a model to fit everyones face.

Great Simple Knife

CRKT Point Guard Knife

CRKT Point Guard Knife

Rating for this product: 4 November 17, 2008

This is a great simple knife. As the description says no bells and whistles. The blade has a thumb stud. It isnt spring assisted, but it isnt that difficult to open it with one hand. It does take a little bit getting used to but with a little practice you'll be flicking this knife open quickly. This knife wont open up if you drop it. I did test it by dropping it on my floor from about shoulder height a few times. Blade stays in its place when folded. It might get loose after being opened a lot over time, but for now I'm not worried about it accidentally opening up.
Knife feels solid, nice smooth opening action. Handle is solid and feels comfortable to hold in my hand. Has a pretty good weight to it, fairly well balanced. Has the LAWKs system so this folding knife can be locked into a fixed position for those times when your a little bit of excessive force on the knife. Knife has a built in clip so you can clip it onto your belt or wherever you feel like clipping it.
Word of caution, this knife is really sharp. Was running my thumb lightly across the blade a few times back and forth and before I knew it I drew some blood. Didnt realize it actually cut my thumb until the blood starting coming out a few mins later.

This is a great knife, and for its price you really cant complain. If your looking for a knife just to have around when you need it and need something cheap take a look at this one.

Will Work With Helmet

Oakley Wisdom Goggle DO NOT USE

Oakley Wisdom Goggle DO NOT USE

Rating for this product: 5 November 17, 2008

These goggles are great and will work perfectly fine with the new helmet straps included with the newer models of the Wisdoms. The old straps were a hard plastic with three studs near the band and a circle where the strap attached to the frame. This strap would and will not work with a helmet even if you were it underneath your helmet. Strap is too short and it will not sit properly on your face. However, the new strap is flexible and longer. It also has a rubber grip along the inside of the strap so it wont move around on your helmet. Great feature when using with a helmet. Make sure you are wearing a beanie or something on your head or the rubber will start ripping some of your hair out. If you get the old strap with your wisdoms, you can always buy the helmet strap from oakley. If you can try and buy the wisdoms with the new strap. You'll love these goggles.

DAKINE X-Mat Stomp Pad

Rating for this product: 5 November 17, 2008

This is a great straight forward stomp pad. The spikes are hard and sharp and provide great grip for your back foot. I love the clear stomp pad. It allows the design to be seen through to avoid ruining the design of your snowboard. Some people dont like using stomp pads but i like having something to place my foot on when ice freezes on top of your snowboard. Not cool when your foot slips when your skating around.
