Atomic Bent Chetler Ski

September 25, 2011

Yes. As long as the snow stays kinda soft they should do alright. If it's hard icy groomers than they're probably less than ideal. I'm 6'2"/195 and demoed the 192's last year on a soft day a.k.a. powder day and they were amazing do whatever you want in the snow nimble. But your not buying these for the groomers. I Have a friend in his 50's that thought the opposite about the groomers but we are also on the opposite ends of the skiing spectrum, he skis lots of groomers and I try to avoid them. I did find some sun baked ice in my adventures and they at least held an edge like most skis do. I think this ski should do just fine in the PNW.

4FRNT Skis CRJ Ski

September 25, 2011

I'm 6'2"/195lbs. and skied the 188's last season and didn't have a problem with them. They don't have as much rocker in the tip and tails as others but you don't notice, cause they are still really nimble in the trees and tight spots and surf the pow with the best of them. Also having less rocker in the t&t they have more edge contact for those GS turns.

Chose this pair for the longer-length than shorts and the cargo pockets. They're the perfect length. The cell pocket is a bit hokey, but not too annoying.

A comfortably snug fit

The North Face Bubblecomb Hooded Sweatshirt - Women's

The North Face Bubblecomb Hooded Sweatshirt - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 April 14, 2010

The words of my sister. This hoodie is full of surprises! I got a M, which is perfect for me because it has a comfortably snug fit, but not snug to the point of tightness. The sleeves have thumbies and a pull-over part so you can cover your hands completely and the hood can be tucked away. The material is fairly breathable, keeping you warm but not too warm. The neckline is a little high, a bit "turtle-neck"-ish, but not as tight, allowing free movement of the neck.

The North Face Venture Jacket - Women's

The North Face Venture Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 April 14, 2010

The words of my sister. This jacket is amazing!! Its super light-weight and completely water proof. The breathable material allows you to transition easily from the outside to the inside without the warm, muggy feeling. The jacket is not insulated, but mine (a size M) has room to add layers beneath. It also only reaches the top of the hips, which doesn't bother me, but if your looking for a bit more coverage, you might like something else. Overall, great jacket, highly highly recommended.

K2 Pontoon Alpine Ski

K2 Pontoon Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 5 March 29, 2010

So when you get these skis in there intended environment, that being powder or anything soft and slarvable they are amazing! They also handle the groomers quite well. In the pow pow these things just play and have a good time. If you want to go big GS turns you can, if you want trees and lots of turns you can do that too. If you want to through them sideways into a McConkey turn and just keep on rippin' they do that too. They also make landings in big snow amazingling soft. So as long as the snow stays soft these skis are amazing, when it starts to get hard you can survive but sreiously, your only buying these for one purpose. For the powder of any type these skis do it all and make it alot of fun.

Bomber Bombshells

Stoic Bombshell Bib - Men's

Stoic Bombshell Bib - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 16, 2010

First off, I'am 6'2" and 190lbs.

I bought the XL and they fit great. My waist is a 34" and these adjust down far enough that I don't need a belt and the length is perfect; not too baggy but just baggy enough to be loose and not get caught up in your boots. I think the length is perfect! I love these pants and now that I have had a chance to use them on multiple outings and I like them even more. I especially like the removable bibs although I have yet to remove for skiing, partly cause I like the pockets and they keep the snow out when you do tumble. The pockets are pretty big and should hold anything extra you need to shove in them. The actual performance of the shells has been outstanding, the inner thigh vents are nice for hiking and warmer days and the pants seem to breath well although I haven't had any really warm days yet. I also had them in a wet sierra snow storm at Kirkwood where you were sitting on a slushy snowy chair and the snow was melting on you on the chair up and I stayed bone dry, even my butt was dry after many chairs up. They have also been pretty durable so far as I have engaged in some good old fashioned bush whacking just for those hidden turns and they show no signs of wear except for some bark residue that has since wore off. My only complaints are that the inner gaiter is almost too big big on my boots and doesn't get real snug but hasn't been a problem yet and still keeps the snow out. The one snap on my bottom pant leg doesn't want to stay snapped but it's insignificant and doesn't affect anything. And the only other thing is more of a gripe of all companies and has to do with the direction that pocket zippers zip closed, why can't the zipper zip down to close instead of up? I know it's a little thing but it makes sense to me.

Anyway, these are the best pants I have purchased and are totally worth the investment and should last awhile. If not there is a lifetime warranty.

Awesome cold weather layer

Stoic Luft Hoody Insulated Sweater - Men's

Stoic Luft Hoody Insulated Sweater - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 9, 2010

So apparently I'am weird or have some freakishly normal body cause this thing fits perfectly on me. I'am 6'2" 190lbs. and an athletic body style, type, cut whatever you want to call it. I bought the XL and think this is probably the best purchase I have made this winter as I never had a puffy layer before to shove in my pack for when it gets cold. So I took an avalanche class where we were standing around a snowpit talking and learning in a snow storm and started getting the shivers. I finally broke down and took my shell off briefly to put this on underneath and within a minute I was noticeably warmer and the perfect temp. for the rest of the day. I wouldn't hike with it on because it would be too warm but as a cold layer it's perfect for me.

I also like the fact that the hood fits over my helmet and I didn't notice any bunching or anything weird when it was under my shell. My only complaint or improvement would be to give it some pit zips.

Vans Aura Snowboard Boot - Men's

Vans Aura Snowboard Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 14, 2010

Well, I finally got to try these the other day and they were very nice. The first thing I noticed when I got these was how light they were. It's nice not feeling weighed down by your boots. They're very comfortable too and not too stiff. The older Boa system had a tendancy to press too much on the top of my foot and leave me aching by the end of the day, but the newer Boa Focus set up allows for better fit and comfort all around, and I never felt any discomfort. It's a great boot.

K2 Slayblade Snowboard - Wide

K2 Slayblade Snowboard - Wide

Rating for this product: 5 January 14, 2010

This is a solid board! The flatline tech makes it a much smoother, and faster ride than a normal camber would. Turning with the slayblade was very easy and comfortable. I never felt like I had to put much effort into. The board also floats nicely in the powder and the Harshmellow under foot adds a little more cushion for the hard and/or choppy stuff. I don't do a lot of freestyle, but I'd definately recommend this board to anyone looking for a good all mountain board.

Big Agnes Copper Spur UL3 Ultra Light Tent: 3-Person 3-Season

Big Agnes Copper Spur UL3 Ultra Light Tent: 3-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 5 November 30, 2009

Out of all the tents I tried this last year this one was my favorite. Not only is it super simple to set up the first time but once it's up there is plenty'o room with the more vertical sidewalls and tall enough to sit up in without feeling confined. (I' am 6'1") The rain fly once attached is nice and taught and gives excellent coverage and airflow. The cross bar was a little hard to get into the rain fly but once we undid the center hook so we could flex the pole in another direction it went in no problem. Getting in and out of the tent was nice too I thought compared to some other tents out there. This tent just felt solid for as light as it is also and I would not hesitate to take this tent out in anything.

Volkl Gotama Ski

November 19, 2009

So I have this question posted below on Dash's review and then decided to throw it up here also. I have the 186's and will be mounting the Barons on them and I' am trying to figure out where I want to mount them, currently thinking about +1 which seems to be the consensus on TGR's forum for all around performance with some switch riding. However I have also heard +2 from Ingrid below so I'am just throwing this out cause I want a good slashy/playful ski that will also charge and slay the pow. I' am asking for too much? let me know what ya think. Thanks

Bear Vault BV450 Solo Bear Resistant Food Canister

Bear Vault BV450 Solo Bear Resistant Food Canister

Rating for this product: 3 September 29, 2009

So i don't have any kind of rave review for this cause I was unable to find any bears to let chew on this but it seemed to keep all the chipmunks out that were eying our food longingly wishing they could get to the granola. I thought the lid was a bit difficult to twist off for one person, which I suppose this is the case with a bear canister. If your packing food for more than 1 person on a multi day trip your gonna need a bigger canister. Managed food for an over niter with my wife but that was all. Other than that it worked.

Well I don't have much more to add than what has been said already in the previous comments. I did get to compare it in size to another 3 person tent, an MSR tent I think and the TNF packed smaller and I think was a little lighter. All in all I don't think you'll be disapointed with this tent.

Kelty Coyote Backpack - 4750cu in

Kelty Coyote Backpack - 4750cu in

Rating for this product: 4 September 2, 2009

This back rides nice when you get it loaded down. I thought the hip belt was pretty nice and did it's job well. I'am 6'1" and like the easy adjustibility of this back so you can adjust to the right fit for you. As for packing this thing with stuff I really liked the outside entry from the rear of the pack and made it easier to get at stuff that's not at the top. It does pack a good load. I was able to fit a 3 person tent change of clothes, bear vault, sleeping bag and other miscillaneous camping stuff in the outside pockets. My wife had all the cooking gear and what ever else we had. There was good outside strapping if you had straps. I was very pleased with this pack and would recommend to anyone looking for a good multi purpose pack at pretty good and reasonable price.

K2 ObSETHed Alpine Ski

August 26, 2009

I'am 6'2 185 and aggressive and rock in my own world! Yes these skis are probly longer than listed. I had a pair of the 189's from 2-3 yrs ago and they actually measured 194 from tip to tail. But I think K2 does a measurement from where the ski contacts the the snow, but with the tip and tail rocker I'am not sure where they measure from but my guess is they are probly longer. I haven't measured any skis lately. The tip and tail rocker are gonna make this ski shorter than you might think, (my experience anyway) meaning good for the trees and quick manuevering. As far as the flex goes, I liked the flex from a couple years ago and wish I still had these skis.

Sierra Designs Lightning XT 3 Tent 3-Person 3-Season

Sierra Designs Lightning XT 3 Tent 3-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 3 July 17, 2009

I thought this tent was pretty good. definetly airy for those warm nights and looks pretty good I thought, not that that matters. We just car camped with it but it had plenty of room for 3. I did like the more vertical walls, made it feel roomier. The set up however is kinda tricky. Do not try to set this tent up for the first time in the dark when your tired or it's rainy. It will only frustrate you more. Once you have it set up though it's pretty nice. Thought the doors were kinda small. Especially the back door. The rain fly gives nice full coverage and was pretty easy to put on although we had it backwards first. All in all it's a nice tent that takes some practice first but should do nicely for most occassions.

Nice rack!!!

Thule Passage 3 Bike Strap Rack w/Cradles

Thule Passage 3 Bike Strap Rack w/Cradles

Rating for this product: 4 July 17, 2009

This is a good looking rack option if you lack a hitch or other roof mounted stuff. It folds out into different sizes to fit just about anything I think, I had it folded all the way out to fit my car. I have an Xterra and was alittle skeptical at first but once I got it all attached and snugged up it didn't move. And once I loaded it up with three bikes I was still impressed with how well it carried them on a windy road and at freeway speeds. You still need bungy cords to keep everything snugged up but other than that I thought it worked great. I really liked the fact that you could remove the arms from the rest of the rack when not using the rack and you could still keep it attached to the car. This is definetly worth the investment if you don't have all the fancy enhanced racking. It's still a nice rack.

Therm-a-Rest Dream Time Sleeping Pad

Rating for this product: 5 April 30, 2009

This the best thing for car camping or base camping next to a futon mattress(which fits in the back of my xterra very nicely) I usually don't sleep well when out camping because my back gets stiff and sore from the wimpy foam pads but not this time. I slept great and my back thanked me. It's definetly not one you will be packing in on long trips but for the short close to the car trips it's worth it.

Liberty Double Helix Alpine Ski

April 8, 2009

So this answer may be a little late, but better late then never right? Anyway I currently own 2 pair a liberty skis. A pair of SB 180's which were demo's from a shop that I bought without skiing. They ski the whole mountain great by the way. They have held up well considering they were demos and then the abuse that I put them through. Aside from dull edges from sliding rails the worst thing is chipped top sheet edge which I expect. I have tagged a few rocks with them with only minor scratches. I also own a pair of the DH's(awsome ski)but only have 2 days on them so can't really say. But if they hold up like my other skis there should be no problem, plus with a 3 year warranty(unheard of! props liberty) I definetly think they are worth it!

Liberty Double Helix Alpine Ski

April 8, 2009

I own a pair of the 190's DH's and although I only have a couple days on them I'am glad I went with the bigger ski. They are fairly light such a big ski which helps to make them come around quick when you need them to and are a pretty surfy ski and easy to slash ski which makes them good in trees and tight spots in my opinion. I'am 6'2" 185 and consider my self an aggressive skier.

They're worth it

Liberty Double Helix Alpine Ski

Liberty Double Helix Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 5 April 8, 2009

Well I only have 2 days on these black beauties but they were really good days! Lot's of powder. So let's get to it. ME-6'2" 185lbs and like to ski aggressively and I like the technical stuff, steep and deep are good.

So these skis are absolutely awsome in the powder! They have great float and are super smooth and pretty surfy. You can make long big turns or you can really bring them around quick if you need. The fact that they are so light for the size helps for making surfy slashing turns and when you get into the trees you can just cruz on through. They make a great landing pad also. The cut up powder and leftovers are no problem. These skis just plow through and over everything without much complaining and the hard pack is no sweat. I got on a slope that had slide down to the previous sun crust and was pretty firm and they held there own just fine. I thought these skis were great all over the mountain and would say that if you are looking for an all around powder ski you can't go wrong with these.

Blizzard Titan Cronus Ski

Blizzard Titan Cronus Ski

Rating for this product: 4 March 23, 2009

I thought these skis performed well all over the mountain. I had them up at snowbird after a powder day in the fluffy left overs and they handled the groomers to the choppy stuff well. The little bit of powder that I was able to find was fun but I thought they definetly lacked the float and performance that I have had with skis of similar size. The tips felt like they wanted to dive instead of float, this was definetly there weak point in my opinion. The overall flex of the ski I would rate as medium leaning towards a medium stiff. Again these skis railed on the groomers and where great in the crud. If you don't ski much powder I think this would be a good investment, plus I think the graphics are kinda cool.

Feels sooooo goood!

Rossignol S7 Caballero Alpine Ski

Rossignol S7 Caballero Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 5 March 23, 2009

So I don't know what you would define as big, I'm 6'2" and probly around 200lbs with all my gear on and these skis felt unreal! In a good way. I was skiing the 188's and the first run I made with these reqired a nice little hike into the sidecountry to find some freshies that were still untracked. Once I got there and clicked in it was game on, basically what Sage and others have siad earlier applies. My first turns were through tracked up snow and wind lips of various sizes... they were awsome and buttery smooth. Once I got to the good stuff I could not believe how well they floated and how easy they were to play on from short to long turns they did it all! Super surfy and slashable wich I really like and landing on these things is easy. I got some groomers and bumps and crud also and these skis just handled everything better than I thought they would, ecspecially in the bumps. Bottom line is this is probly the most fun powder ski I have been on and I'am not getting paid to say that.

Black Diamond Fritschi Diamir Freeride Plus Binding

Black Diamond Fritschi Diamir Freeride Plus Binding

Rating for this product: 5 March 23, 2009

Well for all those folks that have broken these bindings or are looking for a good AT binding that will hold up let me just say that the perfect AT binding probly doesn't exsit yet. Because it's either too heavy (the Duke which has it's problems also) or it doesn't hold ya in tight enough or it's too flimsy or whatever your gripe may be. I've also broken various bindings on the hill and I know that it sucks. I'am happy to report however that I have had nothing but good results with these and believe that these are the best bet for your money presently, unless your doing seriuos mountaneering and want light weight then go with the dynafits. Anyway back to the Fritschi's. I have put them through there paces from backcountry tours to hucking cliffs to resort skiing including some terrain park and just about anything else and they have held up. Do I have my complaints? Sure, I wish they sat closer to the ski and stuff but until something better comes along I'am a very satified user.

V.I.O. POV.1 Camera Package

Rating for this product: 5 March 20, 2009

I had the opportunity to use this video recording set up for a couple of days last month and thought it wise to have a couple days to play with it and figure it out. Honestly it was probably the easiest video recorder to set up and use. Everything was straight forward and super simple to operate. On top of that I thought the quality of the video image was excellent and the overall point of view camera dead on. I got some good point of view video of everything that was in my point of view. The guys at V.I.O. have a winner in this easy to use and durable high quality recorder. It's no wonder the pros like Sage Cattabriga-Alosa and the like use it when wanting quality shots. I would highly recomend this to any one looking for a durable high quality recorder to capture your greatest conquests.

Just to add to my above review, I had these out on some good firm steep groomers and trails and the edge grip is amazing, I was really trying to jam some turns on these and had a hard time getting them to chatter, in fact they didn't. They are very torsionally stiff and hands down the best wide boards I've skied on firm snow! So once again this ski does it all!!

Well, I had a mixed day snow wise on these ski. Everything from a little powder to some chalky edgy stuff to your crusty icy all in one day. These skis suprized me on the harder firm groomers, they handled and dug in better than I thought they would, easy to lay down some nice trenches. In the crud they had no problem. The powder was also very nice and so easy with these, plenty of float for whatever and they seemed very stable when dropping cliffs and charging hard down the mountain. All in all these would make a great one ski quiver. The flex is probably just on the upside of a medium making them fairly forgiving and very snappy and responsive in my opinion. I would definetly get these.

They did the job

Line EP Pro Alpine Ski

Line EP Pro Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 3 February 20, 2009

Well I had the opportunity to ski these a few weeks back up at the Bird with about a foot+ of some heavyish pacific nw snow. I thought they were great and super easy to ski anywhere. The powder performance was awesome and super smooth and simple to ski. The groomers were even pretty good, I was able to lay and hold an edge with no problem. Dropping smaller cliffs and jumping on these was a blast and the huge platform smooths everthing out until you hit the mank where it really gets tracked out cut up. They seemed to get tossed around rather than charge through the mank. Moguls were manageable. However hen you get in the back seat it does take a little more effort to get back on top of them due to the soft rockered tail. Overall I thought they were fun but to soft for me at 6'1" and 185lbs
and my style of skiing which is generally very aggressive and fast. I guess if I jibbed more they might be closer to the top. They do ski backwards quite well also.

MMMMM......Bacon, I like bacon!

Line Sir Francis Bacon Alpine Ski

Line Sir Francis Bacon Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 5 February 20, 2009

For starters(for what it's worth) I'am 6'1" 185 lbs of aggressive skier. I like to go fast and I also like the technical stuff with small drops and like to play in the snow. Now that that is out of the way let's get to business. I thought these were the best all around do everything ski that I have skied. Could be your one ski quiver. I thought the medium(imo)flex was dead on and handled everything with ease. I had about 1-3 feet of powder depending on what part of the mountain I was on and they were awesome! They don't float like a rockered pair but when it's that deep does it matter? Anyway they still float better than a lot of other skis and will turn on dime in the trees and stomp landings with ease. Thought I was gonna over the front once but the skis saved me and I rode away. The groomers were awesome and everything in between was a blast. Granted I only had them one day and it was a powder perfect day I have nothing bad to say about this ski. It Rocks! Just like Bacon!

Anything softish is a blast

Rating for this product: 5 February 2, 2009

I'am 6'1" and 185ish, very aggressive skier that like the more technichally challenging steeps and generally try to stay off trial as much as possible.
Well I have to agree with everything that has been said already about these skis. They absolutley rule anything that is soft from soft groomers to the deep deep deep days. Incredibly easy to ski and could not sink the tips, I tried leaning way forward on them and they just wouldn't go under. They made every landing super smooth and soft and they liked to dance in the trees also. Can't go wrong with these skis in my opinion, almost a daily driver if it never got icy hard. They even handle the ice all right, I had a little trouble where the the ski meets the snow wanting to grab on firmer snow but I think that if you detune them further down that problem will be eliminated. Super stable fun ski that you should try!!

UNFORTUNATE CONDITIONS

Moment Ruby Alpine Ski

Moment Ruby Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 3 January 19, 2009

Well for starters I skied this ski in the 188 length with a pair of Fritsche bindings, I'am 6'2" and 185ish. I thought it was a pretty light set up considering the size of the skis and was excited to go and take them out for the weekend here in utah! Unfortunatley it hadn't snowed for about 3-4 days and everything was tracked out in bounds and fairly dense by the time I got my turns, so my first run was throught the half pipe to meet up with my cuz and the skis were actually pretty good(mind you I can catch air in the pipe and that's about it). Found lots of chalky snow around wich is fun to ski but not powder. I thought the skis were pretty nimble for the size and handled these conditions great and had no problems blowing down the late left overs. I was able to poke around in some of the side country and find a little powder and thought that the few turns that I had were pretty darn good but not enough powder to come to a good conclusion. However, these skis are great for stomping landings, nothing huge due to the conditions but all the little stuff was great. So after a pretty good new years day I took them to idaho for the weekend hoping that maybe idaho had some new snow. They did not, and neither did Bogus Basin. Lots of really firm snow and ice. So I took'em out anyway, they are alright on the firm groomers but not ideal, that and I thought they could have maybe been mounted more forward by like a cm or so. I felt that I had to lean too far forword to carve well. Not wanting to stay on the groomers I headed off exploring and found some good soft left overs that I thought the skis handled great in, plowing right through without a second thought, just point'em and go! I also found area with an eighth inch zipper crust on it that didn't seem to affect the skis cause I went back and skied it again and thought it was pretty fun. The ice that I did ecounter off the beaten path was unpleasant however. The skis didn't seem to want to grab in the tight spots, I would definetly avoid the steep icy terrain with these.
So the bottom line in my humble opinion: These skis are great if it's not firm and icy, nimble in the trees I thought and everywhere else. Bumps were managable and I had fun. If I had to give these skis a grade in the conditions that I had, I would give them a good solid B+. AND I want to take them out in the conditions they're built for ASAP - let it snow!

Oakley All Mountain Hiking Boot - Men's

Oakley All Mountain Hiking Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 17, 2008

My wife picked these up for me without me knowing till they showed. I'm a pretty picky shoe buyer and like to try before I buy cuze I have a high instep that doesn't allow me to properly tighten some boots I've tried. And let's face it, if your feet ain't happy then you ain't happy. Anyway I was pleasantly surprised when I tried them on, no problems! Great fit right out of the box. They say you should go a half size bigger for hiking but these are my regular size so I don't think it's necessary with these as I think they might run a little big. The traction is awsome and very aggressive, went backpacking for a weekend over labor day with the fam and the trial went from flat to probly a 45+ degree up hill with switch backs occosionally and they gripped the whole way up. There was also a lot of granite ruble and rocks up there and water and mud and I put them through the paces and they held up just fine. Did I mention that it snowed 4" the night before we had to hike out and back down the mountain? Well it did, I was then thankfull for the little bit of insulation they have, other wise I couldn't tell that they were any warmer than any other non-insulated boot in the warmer weather. They got pretty wet on the way out but my feet stayed dry even even after wading across the couple of streams and hiking through the snow as it was melting. I would recomend that you treat the leather before any serious water abuse as my leather got a little water stained by the end of the trip cuze I forgot to treat before the trip. Otherwise they still look new.
Bottom line. I think these boots are great and would definatly recomend.
