Stoic Vamp 30 Sleeping Bag: 30 Degree Down

Stoic Vamp 30 Sleeping Bag: 30 Degree Down

Rating for this product: 4 April 10, 2012

It really is as comfortable as the picture looks. It's not on par with a $300+ bag, but for going on the 3 to 4 day hikes with a couple of people in the spring, summer or fall, it's pretty great. I've used it in 20 degree weather to the heigth of summer in the inland north west. Granted that's in the 70's over night, but still kept me very comfortable in both the temps.

Therm-a-Rest NeoAir Trekker Sleeping Pad

April 9, 2012

It pretty much sounds like the noise your bag would make against most tent materials, I haven't noticed it to be annoying, but if the sound bothers you with what you have already, I'd go with a closed foam cell pad, they tend to be a bit more quiet.

Love Merino!!

Lorpen Merino Light Hiker Crew Sock - 2-Pack

Lorpen Merino Light Hiker Crew Sock - 2-Pack

Rating for this product: 4 March 21, 2012

I love merino wool, it's very soft and comfortable. I was skeptical about wool socks because I don't like the itchy feeling, but these aren't ichy. They do what they are supposed to do, keep your feet warm when it's cold and breath well when it's a bit warmer out. I wouldn't suggest these for mid summer hikes in Arizona, but definately a great sock for the other three seasons mountian climates. The only gripe I have is they look like they'll wear out sooner than synthetic socks, after a summer of hiking in the Rockies.

AWESOME!!!

Arc'teryx Beta SL Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Beta SL Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 21, 2012

I love this jacket! It was a gift form my sister and I can't thank her enough. I couldn't buy one on my own, so I now understand.... you get what you pay for. Even though this jacket is short on ton of features, it's very well thought out. The fit is great, for reference, I'm 5'9" and 185lbs with medium wide shoulders. I have a large and the atheltic fit is great, the arms are a bit long, but I don't notice, but someone taller with longer arms will still like this jacket. The zippers work well and I like the longer pockets, they work well if you have a pack on. Obviously very woterproof, it's Goretex. suprisingly it breaths pretty well to, no clammy damp feeling after a hike and due to it's light weight construction, it's very comfortable to wear in general. If you can afford one, get one.

Warm, nice fit, not bulky at all

Marmot Alpinist Glove

Marmot Alpinist Glove

Rating for this product: 5 March 21, 2012

I don't agree with the review below regarding the warmth of these golves, but I kind of understand where it cam e from. When you first put these on, the first ride up the chair, they can be a bit cold. BUT once you are moving and circulating blodd, these are awesome! They are fully water proof, the fit is not bulky at all. They're very dexterious, zippers and buckles are a snap. they DO NOT have a removable liner, but I like that aspect. Not trying to get the liners to fit back into the shell after being removed. The safty straps work well and the srist cinches keep the snow out very well on those dee powder days. I highly recomend these gloves. Just keep in mind that the first few minutes will be a bit cold, but once warmed up they hold their heat very well.

Nice goggles

Oakley Splice Goggle

Oakley Splice Goggle

Rating for this product: 4 March 21, 2012

These are a great pair of goggles, they look good, fit well and it takes a lot to get them to fog up. Awesome clairity in any condition. You really can see very well with these. I guess that's kind of obvious, being Oakley, but it's not just all hype. Oakley knows their optics. Fully adjustable and can fit helmets pretty easily. If you're thinking of getting a pair I would definatly suggest these.

Stoic Vamp 30 Sleeping Bag: 30 Degree Down

June 16, 2011

Alex is right, this thing really compresses down to not much bigger than a nalgene. About 8" to 9" long and 6" wide. ok so it's a bit bigger than a nalgene, but it realy does compress down pretty small.

Stoic Merino Ski Sock - 2 Pair

Stoic Merino Ski Sock - 2 Pair

Rating for this product: 4 June 7, 2011

What more is there to say, these are warm and comfortable and they really do stay up. No scrunching up inside your boots. It does feel a little odd how much the hug your calves, but that's probably just me and not used to having a pir of socks that come all the way up to almost the back of your knees. Still I liek them and think that they are comfortable all day snowboarding.

Therm-a-Rest NeoAir Trekker Sleeping Pad

Therm-a-Rest NeoAir Trekker Sleeping Pad

Rating for this product: 5 June 7, 2011

This is a great pad, it packs down a little shorter, but a little wider than a nalgene bottle. It's very light and doesn't take up much space inside my pack. I love the fact that it's over 2" thick, not sure that it's 2.5", but maybe I didn't have it all the way inflated. Either way it's the best nights sleep that I've had on a camping trip.

Great Pant

The North Face Freedom Pant - Men's

The North Face Freedom Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 April 14, 2011

I really like these pants. The design and materials are top notch, I guess to be expected with North Face gear. They really are extremely waterproof and shed water like wax paper. Pretty warm with just a medium base layer. I really wanted to keep them, but I returned them because they were a bit baggier through the legs than I thought they would be, but that could be due to the size I wear I'm a 36 x 32 for reference. I'll have to look for another TNF pair of pants as I really liked these ones.

Nice Sack !!!

Granite Gear BlocSolid Compression Sack

Granite Gear BlocSolid Compression Sack

Rating for this product: 4 October 9, 2010

This is a really nicly made compression sack. The materials are pretty sturdy and the straps work pretty well. If you're using this for a sleeping bag, the square ends don't make much of a difference. I used it with my 20 degree bag and it pretty much looked the same as any other compression sack once fully compressed, but with my Marmot limelight 2-person tent rolled up it held it's shape nicely as it does with cloths also. It does seem to be a good design overall. I will be buying more to have on hand. I highly recomend this compression sack.

Great 3 season tent, Great price

Marmot Limelight 2-Person Tent w/ Footprint and Gear Loft

Rating for this product: 4 October 5, 2010

I bought this tent and the Marmot Early Light 2-person tent, set them both up in the backyard to see which one I liked better and the Limelight won. The pole design is pretty cool and easy to use. The rain fly is nice and snug, fits to the shape of the tent pretty much as it looks in the pictures. Both come with the footprint and gear loft, but the gear loft is kind of on the small side. Just enough to hold my glasses and head lamp as a overhead light. As other reviews have mentioned, you'll want to really know your tent mate or you'll really get to know them after staying in this tent.

The winning factor between the two was the poles. The Earlylight didn't seem as stable as this one and it made it a little more difficult to get the rain fly situated nicely on the tent. I do like the two doors on the Earlylight, but.....

This tent doesn't have two doors and the one door does fall to the ground, but the simplicity of the Limelight set up made the difference.

Very bright headlamp

Princeton Tec Quad Headlamp

Princeton Tec Quad Headlamp

Rating for this product: 4 October 5, 2010

This light is pretty bright and it's not too heavy on your head. I was kind of suprised about the comfortability of it because it looks bulky. It does pretty much what it's supposed to do, light up the night. It really is pretty bright and the three levels of brightness come in handy when you don't feel like blinding your buddy or when reading at night.

Burton Ruler Snowboard Boot - Men's

Burton Ruler Snowboard Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 September 18, 2010

These were a great idea. They're a bit stiffer than the Moto, but not over the top. It's a considerable upgrade form my old Burtons that I bought 10 years ago. I get my money's worth out of my gear. I like the lacing system, but you'll need to re-tighten them after a few runs. Kept my feet really warm on some zero degree days.

ALPS Mountaineering Lightweight Series Air Pad

Rating for this product: 3 September 18, 2010

I have the regular and it's a good size for me, I'm 5'9" and about 190lbs. I was fairly comfortable, but it's a little on the narrow side. Very light and has held up well for backpacking trips and some car camping. Not the best, but pretty good for the price.

Merrell Col Mid Waterproof Boot - Men's

Merrell Col Mid Waterproof Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 September 18, 2010

I love these boots. I broke them in on a weekend backpacking trip in August and they were very comfortable, a little warm for August, but.... Very solid construction, soles are nice and stiff for support, fairly light weight, and good traction. I can't attest to the waterproofness, because I have yet to encounter any really foul weather. Overall I think that these are a great choice.

ALPS Mountaineering Compression Sack

Rating for this product: 4 September 18, 2010

I bought the lg. and it seems to be pretty good construction and fairly sturdy. Straps hold pretty well and can really compress my Alps Desert Pine zero degree bag. Not the best material out there, but for the price(picked it up on SAC for a deal, not to shabby!

The North Face Crestone 60 Backpack - 3350-3950cu in

Rating for this product: 4 August 29, 2010

I have the previous version, but it doesn't seem to have too many changes to the overall design. It carries 50lbs. fairly comfortably. It could use another pocket or two on the outside, but that may be just a personal quirk. Perfect for 3 to 4 day trips, maybe longer if you pack ultra-light.

Tough, durable dog jacket

Ruffwear Cloud Chaser Dog Softshell Jacket

Rating for this product: 5 August 29, 2010

This is a great jacket for my dog. He didn't really care for it the first time around, but after a few minutes he didn't seem to care anymore. It really seemed to help keep him warm in the snow. I'm fairly impressed with the construction of the jacket and the materials used. He was cruising through the woods all day and ripping through some pretty thick underbrush, trying to get the chipmunks. At the end of the day no rips, tares, or snags in the jacket. He's about 45lbs, with a 28" girth and this is a size med. This jacket is a little big on him, but the small was too small and would have caused chaffing around the legs.

July 28, 2010

I have a 3L CamelBak bladder and it doesn't really fit too well in this pack. I would suggest 1 or 1.5L maybe up to a 2L bladder, at most. I used the 3L, but it stuck up out of the pocket in the pack.

Mountain House Chili Mac with Beef - 2 Serving Entrée

Mountain House Chili Mac with Beef - 2 Serving Entrée

Rating for this product: 5 July 27, 2010

I've always loved Chili Mac at home, so I thought this was a great idea. It has a pretty good flavor and is pretty filling. Not too sure about the 2 seving package filling two people. The package for two was enough for me alone, but I enjoyed it. Not sure you want to share a tent with another person who had this as dinner!

Mountain House Scrambled Eggs with Bacon - Breakfast Entree

Mountain House Scrambled Eggs with Bacon - Breakfast Entree

Rating for this product: 5 July 27, 2010

I was pleasntly suprised in fact. Follow the directions and the eggs are pretty normal and the bacon is a nice touch. A little on the soggy side, but that's probably because I didn't drain enough of the water. The one down side would be the single serving, I could easily eat two for breakfast. Other than that, I really liked them.

Surprisingly light, yet warm, breaths well

Stoic Merino Crew - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Stoic Merino Crew - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 July 1, 2010

Great shirt. This is my first piece of merino and I love it! It’s extremely light weight and doesn’t seem like it would keep you warm, but it does and it breathes every well. It is more of an athletic fit, so size up if you want a little more room and not look like you were shrunk-wrapped in the material. I wore this all day out camping and when it cooled off at night, all I added was the BC Rime Pullover and stayed at a perfect temp. all evening. I’m a big fan of merino now and have suggested it to friends, especially if you can pick one up on SAC and make it an even better deal.

Solid sharp knife

SOG Knives Twitch II Knife

SOG Knives Twitch II Knife

Rating for this product: 4 July 1, 2010

This is a great little knife. It’s sharper than hell and the assisted opening makes this almost a switch blade, its lightening fast and works very smoothly. The knife is a little on the small side but it makes a prefect light weight knife that you hardly notice in your pocket or clipped where ever. The clip is nice and tight, clips to almost anything. You will need a larger knife for heavier duty jobs, but for the basic day to day duties, it’s great. Overall, I’m fairly impressed with this knife: razor sharp, light weight, durable all metal construction, high quality materials.

Stoic Tour Softshell Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 22, 2010

I used these all winter long snowboarding in in the Inland NW Rockies. You never know what the weather will be like from day to day. I've used these in cold conditions, soggy days and sunny spring days and they performed excellently. They do tend to soak up water if it's more raining than snowing. I really like how well they breath.

I used this snowboarding under a shell with a light layer underneath and it kept me pleanty warm on a mid-teens to low 20's day on the mountains in the Inland Northwest. It also works well for commuting to work. For reference, I'm 5'10", about 190lbs. and the large is perfect fit to layer with. I tried a medium and it was more of an athletic fit. So if you want to layer, go up a size. I love this jacket. It's a great versatile jacket.
