It's a raincoat...

Carhartt Work-Flex Jacket - Men's

Carhartt Work-Flex Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 January 29, 2009

Carhartt makes work stuff, not sports stuff, and this jacket fits that mold. I just got back from a trip to the Sierras in the snow (x-country and snowshoeing). It definitely keeps the snow/water out, but it definitely doesn't let your sweat out, so it's sort of a wash. If you're looking for a raincoat for getting to work, dog walks, etc. in the rain, it's really good for that. It will keep you totally dry and seems well-made and durable. If you want a jacket for sports activities, look elsewhere. If you do get one, go for a smaller size-- they say it is made for layering, and I found my normal size to be way too big (except maybe if I was wearing so many layers that my arms wouldn't bend).

Columbia Titanium Winter Trek Omni-Tech Boot - Men's

Columbia Titanium Winter Trek Omni-Tech Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 29, 2009

These boots are awesome. They are totally waterproof (tested by standing in the middle of a stream) and warm (tested by snowshoeing in pretty deep powder). They are warm enough that I could wear just one pair of thick cotton (yes, cotton) socks while snowshoeing/walking around in 20-30 degree weather, and since they are breathable, no sweat either, even when I wore them on the drive back down the mountain. Very comfortable, too.
