Patagonia Capilene 3 Midweight Bottom - Boys'

March 21, 2011

Is there any difference really, in the Patagonia Capilene 3 boys long underwear and the girls other than the color choices? The Fog grey seems to be offered for both. I want to get the green color for my daughter, which is by the Boys selection - I just do not want the traditional Boy Underwear Double-layer easy-access front folds, if you know what I mean.....

D-sized Athletic Women Need Not Apply

Patagonia Morning Glory Dress - Women's

Patagonia Morning Glory Dress - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 June 24, 2010

Patagonia, while staying "true to it's core" (as corporate brochures state) of rock climbing low percent body fat flat-chested women athletes, does not have much in the way of casual wear that is well fitting or applicable to D-sized athletic women. Do not attempt this dress if your cup size is D or larger, it just isn't a flattering look. The fabric looks and feels lux, though. Seems like a good price for the quality. I had to return mine, however....

Much Better Boardshorts Out There for the Money

Carve Designs Paddler Board Short - Women's

Carve Designs Paddler Board Short - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 June 24, 2010

I believe I read a review on these before I ordered them that said the fabric was cheap-feeling. I ordered these anyway, and yes the fabric is not very substantial at all. These are the type of boardshorts meant to be worn over a pair of bikini bottoms as a cover-up. Well, I don't like the bulkiness of two suits; I want to run around on the beach like my husband does to play volleyball, kayak and SUP going in and out of the water without having to change my clothes. The fabric is too thin to wear alone, and will "cling" to your body when you get out of the lake or pool. Personally, not the look I like. I recoommend a more substantial boardshort that can be worn by itself - Oakley makes one as does Athleta.
As for fit, I am 5' 7", athletic build for a Mom of two kids at 150 pounds. I have to say the size 10 fit well, a bit loose but an 8 would be a smidgen too tight. Curve Designs - pick better fabric dudes & get it right!

Size up!

DAKINE Brat Mitten - Toddlers'

DAKINE Brat Mitten - Toddlers'

Rating for this product: 4 December 8, 2008

I'm concerned reading the answer advice below for questions about the sizing. Seems every manufacture has their own way of doing it. These DaKine mits are for TODDLERS. The size Large was too small for my (42 pound, 44 inch high) 5-year old daughter. The size Large does fit my 3-year old daughter quite nicely. A 3-year old in this instance, if you think about it, is a large toddler. I realized my 5-year old should be in a youth small or extra-small. Other than sizing issues, these are bomber gloves great for play outside. I reccommend the black color which hides the dirt real well. One more thing, the Backcountry return policy is so awesome, you could buy a variety of sized gloves and return the ones that don't fit. No problem on returns!

Sweet Ski Pants for Your Sweetie

Columbia Sweet Point Pant - Little Girls'

Columbia Sweet Point Pant - Little Girls'

Rating for this product: 5 November 7, 2008

The body fit (waist, hips, seat and rise) on these is superior to standard snow pants normally available in this price range. Can it be??! The fit is specifically tapered for a little girl! These are not just boys pants with pink nylon. Bravo Columbia. The finishes and features (front pockets) are practical and sure to please. My daughter loves loves loves the Conch Glenn Plaid Print.

Pricey, but Recommended

Patagonia Synchilla Gloves - Kids'

Patagonia Synchilla Gloves - Kids'

Rating for this product: 3 November 6, 2008

I bought these as everyday gloves to go to school and for spring skiing. So far so good. Patagonia quality fleece is super soft and plush, and resists piling. These are not waterproof and will get wet, but a great for putting on to go to the bus stop, shopping and quick trips outside. For my 5-year old daughter, I purchased the size Large.

Spyder Bitsy Speed Fleece T-Neck Shirt - Little Girls'

Spyder Bitsy Speed Fleece T-Neck Shirt - Little Girls'

Rating for this product: 4 November 6, 2008

Super Duper Soft fleece. My daughter needed a warm baselayer for ski team and this is it. High quality fleece wicks moisture. She wore it alone as a jacket on chilly fall mornings and now will use it under her winter coat. Spyder fits a bit small, so size up. Only comment is that I wish it were available as a crew, since often kids (mine included) hate anything around their neck (we leave the zipper down)
