The North Face Meru Paclite Jacket - Men's
September 12, 2010
The zipper is the only flaw in the Meru Paclite jacket. The Gore Tex shell is tested and true to its word as being 100% waterproof and breathable. First day I purchased the jacket I went for a jog out in a heavy rain storm just to test the new goods. So disappointed! Water resistant.. maybe to a point. Waterproof.. NO! After further examination I held the jacket and zipper up to a light. I have included a picture showing a flashlight held underneath the zipper below. You can see light through the material used for the zipper. No wonder I'm getting a little leakage from the zipper. Who approved this zipper as waterproof! The North Face did not put enough research into their zipper choice. I paid full price expecting to have a 100% waterproof jacket and that's not what I have. I was going to put some Nik Wax or some kind of water sealer on all the zippers but only two days after purchasing the jacket I had another problem. I can't undo the zipper from the bottom of the jacket. I have tried everything under the sun but if I pull any harder I will just damage the jacket. I'm sending the jacket back to The North Face on warranty. Cheap zipper design. I hope The North Face will make improvements for their zippers in the future. Besides the zippers I have only amazing things to say about this jacket. The good thing about TNF is that they do stand behind their product. I will give you an update when I see what they do in regards to the warranty.
