The North Face Meru Paclite Jacket - Men's

September 12, 2010

The zipper is the only flaw in the Meru Paclite jacket. The Gore Tex shell is tested and true to its word as being 100% waterproof and breathable. First day I purchased the jacket I went for a jog out in a heavy rain storm just to test the new goods. So disappointed! Water resistant.. maybe to a point. Waterproof.. NO! After further examination I held the jacket and zipper up to a light. I have included a picture showing a flashlight held underneath the zipper below. You can see light through the material used for the zipper. No wonder I'm getting a little leakage from the zipper. Who approved this zipper as waterproof! The North Face did not put enough research into their zipper choice. I paid full price expecting to have a 100% waterproof jacket and that's not what I have. I was going to put some Nik Wax or some kind of water sealer on all the zippers but only two days after purchasing the jacket I had another problem. I can't undo the zipper from the bottom of the jacket. I have tried everything under the sun but if I pull any harder I will just damage the jacket. I'm sending the jacket back to The North Face on warranty. Cheap zipper design. I hope The North Face will make improvements for their zippers in the future. Besides the zippers I have only amazing things to say about this jacket. The good thing about TNF is that they do stand behind their product. I will give you an update when I see what they do in regards to the warranty.

Not worth the price!

Burton AK Gore-tex 3L Hover Mitt - Men's

Burton AK Gore-tex 3L Hover Mitt - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 January 10, 2008

First off, let me say that I’m a huge fan of Burton's AK line but I'm not overly impressed with this glove. Although the 3L Hover mitt is quite stylish and virtually impossible for water to penetrate, the gloves' fit is feels completely wrong! Wearing all three gloves provided will definitely keep you warm but at what cost. The glove becomes bulky. I found wearing only the 1 inside liner and the shell is much more comfortable. You have the option to pull off the outer shell while keeping the inner liner on, which is great for doing up your bindings or changing your playlist on your iPod. Keep in mind that putting your outer shell back on can be a pain in the ass trying to match the male a female hook-and-loop parts so that your gloves become one again. The cuffs are longer than last year's model, but I still have issues getting a good snow tight seal over my AK Jackets. The wrist is very tight while the length of the fingers is too long. I have more than an inch of play, which is a bit annoying. The design appears to be more durable than last year with improved leather and leather treatment included with your gloves. I will be putting the glove through the ultimate backcountry test over the next 2 months. My snowboarding tour begins tomorrow. I'll keep you posted with just how well the AK 3L Hover stands up to the challenge.

Well worth the money...

Spy Orbit Goggle

Spy Orbit Goggle

Rating for this product: 5 January 30, 2007

An excellent goggle...I am not a big fan of the goggles out in today’s market. I do however like the look and fit of the Spy Orbit. No restrictions in your view which was very important to me. Like Spy advertises, the Orbits never fog up and I have yet to get a scratch. Trust me I have bailed hard on my face many times and still not a mark. Orbits fit well with the Reds Trace and Hi-Fi helmets. I use both helmets and the Orbits fit flawlessly. There is barely any gap between the top of the goggles and the helmet. Sometimes when bombing down the mountain the goggles do whistle. Not enough to be annoying though. The mirrored lens lets your wondering eyes "SPY" at the snow bunnies. All these wonderful options comes for a steep price but well worth the money in the end. I would recommend the Orbit Azzure blue/orange lens. Quite stylish...I get nothing but compliments.
