The fit is unique

TrekSta Assault GTX Hiking Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 October 14, 2011

Since there are no reviews period, I'll add my experience with the fit only (they had to be returned).

I have a very hard-to-fit foot because I'm an E width, 39.5 EU size, low arch, and a low instep. Needless to say I've tried on a lot of boots from Salomon, Scarpa, Asolo, and Salewa to name a few. None of these manufacturers came close to having the correct width (even Scarpa and Asolo in wide) and all crushed my pinky toe.

TrekSta, with their Nestfit business has a fantastic fit for my foot in terms of width, length and volume required to fill the boot. However, the arch support is, in my opinion, wayyyyy too high. For a comparison, it feels like the green superfeet, possibly a bit higher. This one reason alone made me return them (on another site).

I ordered my normal size and found it to be perfect with light cushion socks (injinji's, 2 pair). I'm not sure how this boot would work with a more narrow foot, but TrekSta claims it fits a wide variety of feet.

Hope this helps gauge the fit a little better.

The size chart is from TrekSta's customer service and is official

Salewa Alp Trainer Mid GTX Hiking Boot - Men's

So Sandy, what would be the best way to know when a 7.5 comes to the US? I'd rather not shell out lots for expensive shipping.

Norrøna Narvik Powershield Pro Softshell Jacket - Men's

Norrøna Narvik Powershield Pro Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 16, 2011

This jacket is simply amazing.
The wrist gaiters are awesome, but they are made of some stretchy type of thin material I was scared I would tear (didn't happen). There is a goggle wipe in the right hand pocket that isn't listed and it's removable. The chest vents work very well and the overall breathability of the jacket is fantastic as well as its waterproofness. I took this jacket out snowshoeing and it worked like a charm keeping snow out and the necessary warmth in (chest vents needed though). The power shield pro has amazing stretch and good durability that was tested while trail blazing in the snow. Powder skirt worked like it should.

However, the fit is not amazing. I was aware that the fit is an athletic cut, but I wasn't concerned because I'm athletic. What I was NOT counting on was the fact that this medium jacket seems like it is made for people who are at least 6'+. Standing at 5'9", the arm length and overall length on this jacket was way too long and it looked like I was wearing a large. The chest fit like what I would expect from an athletic cut and was great for my size (151 lbs, 40in chest). It allowed for a baselayer, a mid layer, and even a form fitting fleece on top of that if needed (a bit tight with all 3, but it stretched to accommodate!)

In the end, I highly recommend this jacket if you are around 6ft or taller because if you aren't you will prob look like a child with your dad's jacket on OR if you don't care about the strange, skinny monkey fit and want an amazing jacket.

BC, thank you for an amazing return policy!!

Nice, but....

Mountain Hardwear Monkey Man Lite Fleece Jacket - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Monkey Man Lite Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 February 11, 2011

The sizing on this MH product is off by a letter. For instance, I typically wear a medium (5'9", 151 lbs with more weight in my chest) in everything MH, and a medium was skin tight. I saw that Jon Webb stated this is supposed to be so AFTER I bought the wrong size (not on bc.com) The large had a much more athletic fit than the normal monkey man and a bit more athletic than my favorite monkey man zip T, but still fit well (more to my liking than the skin tight medium).

After moving up to a large and using it to go snowshoeing, I noticed that the thumb holes were very uncomfortable and felt like they were cutting/pinching the skin. This was remedied by putting my gloves on first, then using the thumb holes. This may or may not be unique to my jacket.

The polartec thermal pro is of course very very warm especially when active and works excellent in this piece even though the product description says lite. The hood is pretty tight, but this is supposed to be used for climbing/mountaineering so thats a good thing. A positive about the thumb hole design is that it comes up to your knuckles and uses much more polartec power stretch than the monkey man zip t making it seem much less fragile.

If it weren't for the minor thumb hole issue, me not actually needing a hood, and still liking my monkey man zip t better, I would have kept this for sure.

Mountain Hardwear Monkey Man Lite Fleece Jacket - Men's

January 5, 2011

Just to reiterate the sizing issue this fleece suffers from........I'm 5'9", 151 lbs and I bought a large because the medium was skin tight on me. With your dimensions, do NOT buy a large. Unless you want something skin tight, size up from your normal MH size.

Solid Jacket

Mountain Hardwear Kramer Softshell Jacket - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Kramer Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 14, 2010

The Fit: I'm around 5'9" 151 lbs with a 40" chest. The medium jacket fits perfect with my dimensions without layering and I would consider it an Athletic fit similar to Norrona's only a bit more generous. With a base layer + fleece, it became too small for my liking.

Everything Else : I owned this jacket for a little less than a year and it did it's job. The micro climate zoning is very nice and helps with warmth when you are only wearing a baselayer + the jkt. The pit zips work like they should dumping heat when necessary. The waterproofness is very good, but it's not gore-tex so it will eventually soak through. But with this being a winter sports jacket.....how much does being completely waterproof really matter? The collar on this jacket is high and was a feature I really really liked about this jkt. The hood is a bit on the large size so accommodating a helmet shouldn't be a problem. The Conduit Softshell material seems pretty burly, but I never really tested that out. It has ok breathability but the pit zips help with that. The softshell material doesn't stretch very much either.

In the end it was returned due to size issues and to get Polartec's new Powershield Pro softshell material.

This is a little late, it might help someone else.

I'm About 5'9" 151 lbs with a 40" chest and I fit into a medium nicely with NO layers. WITH layers (base + fleece), this jacket cramps up a little fast. You should def. go large.

Mammut Alagna Softshell Jacket - Men's

December 5, 2010

Chris, if you buy this jacket and it doesn't fit like you want it to, backcountry will definitely take it back. Shipping will be free to get to you and if you don't like it you won't be out $600 but prob around $10 to ship it back for the exchange which will ship free to you again. Or you can always ask a gear expert if you're in a hurry.

Stoic Merino 150 Crew - Long-Sleeve - Men's

December 2, 2009

Like jsung said, the arms will be too long unless you posses freakishly long arms.

At 5'9" 150lbs, I got a medium and its not skin tight on me.

Stoic Merino 150 Crew - Long-Sleeve - Men's

November 23, 2009

I'm 5'9 150lbs and I got a medium. I based it off of the chest measurement though because that's where I tend to have the most issues because of my athletic build. That said, the chest fits me perfect but the arms and the overall length of the piece are a bit too long. It also stretches quite well so I doubt it'll be restrictive if you do have a tight fit. It's very soft and the white in the white/pool combo is somewhat see through.

I'd say go with a small based on what you've shared.

Inconsistent sizing

Mountain Hardwear Lodown Down Jacket - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Lodown Down Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 November 2, 2009

I bought this jacket in what I wear in the monkey man and boris jackets from MH so I assumed this would fit perfect in a med also. Well, it fit good in SOME places and bad in others. The sleeves were too short and the underarm seams chaffed my pits. The collar has a terrible, floppy, oversized design that lets heat dump out through your neck. However, the jacket will still keep you warm even with heat escaping out the collar, it has pit zips which are a great feature on a down jacket, and it doesn't look like your average down coat. If you are considering buying this jacket, I would size up.

The cons outweighed the pros for me and it was sent back as sizing up prob would have caused different issues.

Mountain Hardwear Alchemy Softshell Jacket - Men's

January 4, 2009

I think you'd fit great into a medium. If you're using a lighter jacket as a layer you should still be fine but if you're going with something a little heavier I'd probably size up to a large. I have monkey arms so I have to buy jackets mostly according to arm length. This jacket will be just fine down in those temps with some layering. Great jacket! You'll really enjoy it.Hope that helps.

Update

The North Face Scythe Fleece Jacket - Men's

The North Face Scythe Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 4, 2009

This jacket is awesome IF used under a shell (or something windproof). I took it out during a snow storm with a shell in 10 degrees and walked to a store about a half mile away and was kept very warm. I actually had to unzip the shell some because I got too warm! I still can't see this jacket being very functional during winter without some kind of windproof shell/jacket coupled with it as it lets even small breezes through. There are other options if you want a high warmth to weight ratio such as the MH Monkey Man and Arcteryx has its own version; both using the Polartec Thermal Pro material.

I would say no because the zipper on this jacket has small metal teeth, not larger plastic ones seen on zip in compatible jackets such as the denali or even the nuptse vest.
