good shoes for backpacking

Merrell Chameleon Evo GTX XCR Hiking Shoe - Men's

Merrell Chameleon Evo GTX XCR Hiking Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 September 30, 2008

just taken on two backpacking trips, one in the White Mountains of NH, and another in Glacier National Park, MT. They were fabulous. No blisters despite the shoes being new for the White Mtn. trip. Great support for going up and down steep slopes with a heavy pack. Note: I got incredibly lucky with weather - hardly rained at all in either place. I don't know how well they work wet, but imagine they are good. In dry conditions they are superb.
The shoes does feel a little narrow on my wide-ish foot, but it never caused me trouble.

great backpacking shoe

taken on 2 multi-day trips in the White Mtns of NH and in Glacier National Park, MT in Aug and Sept '08. Shoes were fantastic. No blisters despite being practically new for the White Mtns trip. Shoes felt a little narrow on my wide-ish foot, but it never bothered me while hiking. Strong sole was great going up and especially down steep slopes with a heavy pack. Note: I had incredibly good fortune with weather, so don't know how they'd do in a downpour, I imagine they'd be ok. Strongly recommend these shoes.
