Mountain Hardwear Torsion Glove

June 7, 2009

Are these truly waterproof, both inside and out? Does anyone make a glove with a waterproof outer as well as inner lining?

Awesome pant -- for women, too!

prAna Stretch Zion Pant - Men's

prAna Stretch Zion Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 28, 2009

Any other women out there fed up with super-clingy, tissue-thin, waist-hits-at-your-butt women's hiking/climbing pants? I've spent a lot of time trying on a lot of pants, and I'm beginning to wonder how those of us who are not built petite and and only modestly curved ever find active gear that really feels good.

I finally decided to try men's pants. A lot of these are busts, too -- I don't like that baggy, "I'm wearing men's pants" feeling any more than being poured into a pair of women's hip-hugger types.

Enter the Zion. To begin with, it's made of good quality, durable fabric, it comes in good colors, and it stretches into every yoga position I could remember on the dressing room floor.

The fit, for a woman who is 6 feet tall with a 33 inch inseam and about 170 lbs (since I can only speak for myself here), could go two ways: a size large is curve-skimming, the perfect length, and not too tight. It fits like a good women's pant -- except the waist actually hits at a comfortable low-waist! (Imagine that!) An XL is looser through the thigh, more like a carpenter pant, and long enough to pool slightly around the tops of your boots. It's a little big in the waist, but hey -- it's a men's pant! I like these pants so much, I'll have them altered if I have to.

Bottom line: one woman's holy grail of climbing pants. I know I'm not the only tall, curvy woman climbing out there...

Versatile and warm

Patagonia Capilene 3 Zip-Neck Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Patagonia Capilene 3 Zip-Neck Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 September 25, 2008

I love this shirt. I run hot, so I often wear it alone in cool weather, but if it's really cold out, this is a great base layer. I'm 6'0 with a long torso, and find this shirt fits very well: sleeves and hem are long enough, cut is flattering.
