best arc'teryx shell ever

Arc'teryx Seeker Comp Softshell Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Seeker Comp Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 July 1, 2010

I've had this jacket for a few years and I can't tell you how much I love it. Super functional for playing outside, and just as good for dreary Portland weather. Great style is form and function. I love the hard shell on the top and the breathability of the softshell. Also a huge fan of the sidewinder zip, recco reflector and huge front pockets. Why they stopped making this I'll never know...Arc'teryx, please bring it back!!!

stiff boots for the steep and deep

Salomon Malamute Snowboard Boot - Men's

Salomon Malamute Snowboard Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 July 1, 2010

I love these boots, big and still are perfect for long days on big mountains. Super comfortable and durable, after 3 or 4 seasons one of the grommets has finally popped loose but they still hold tight so it's really no biggie.

Good, not great

Osprey Packs Atmos 35 Backpack - 1900-2300cu in

Osprey Packs Atmos 35 Backpack - 1900-2300cu in

Rating for this product: 4 December 29, 2009

Mine is the '08 model, so there maybe some improvements. On the plus side, it holds a heavy load surprisingly well, I've probably pushed 35+ lbs (of granted very heavy dense items). Also, the breathability of the mesh back panel is great. However, with that, you lose a lot of interior storage space. Especially if you have 100oz bladder in there. It has the option of hanging it in the airspace between the mesh back and then interior pack, which frees up space, but counters some of the breathability. Also, the shoulder straps and top of the suspension can dig into your neck a bit, there's no way to adjust the width of them. Not blisters, but can tire if wearing for many days in a row, like I have when touring.

comfy and good fit

Arc'teryx Covert Hoody Jacket - Women's

Arc'teryx Covert Hoody Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 July 23, 2007

I picked this up for my wife last winter, and she really likes it as a layering fleece when skiing, particularly the thin, form fitting hood which she wears under her helmet. Zipped up, it looks like an ice-skate racing suit, but really soft. Even though the thermal pro has a nice pile with a hard face that maybe doesn't look so techy, the contrasting nylon around all the pockets make it clear this ain't no sweater. Also, she always goes for her hooded cloudveil softshell for casual use over this, as she thinks it looks better, and it's wind and water proof. She said her only complaint is that it could be a bit longer, at least a drop tail. She give it a 4 out of 5 for what she uses it for, strictly layering fleece.

my favorite piece of gear

Arc'teryx Gamma SV Vest - Men's

Arc'teryx Gamma SV Vest - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 May 9, 2007

I've had this vest for a couple of years now, and even though I had to pay I think more like $250 to be an early adopter, it was worth every penny. This is by far my favorite piece of gear. I wear it all the time, running, mountain biking, snowboarding, cruising around town - it never fails. I tend to overheat, so a softshell vest is perfect for me, I especially like that has the thinner material on the back for breathablity. I've worn this on a 30 min run in the pouring rain and was shocked that I was bone dry underneath. It's a perfect mid layer when I'm boarding (to about 10-15F), or outwear on spring days. I just washed it for maybe the first time in 4-5 years and that was only b/c I had to wash some other shells, it never stunk or lost it's weatherproofing, and has only barely started to not look brand new. Love this vest, it converted me to arc'teryx and I haven't looked back since!
