You don't need to zip it in it will be much easier when you get hot to take it off when your cutting layers .

To be honest 50 bucks sad to say does not get you alot in gloves , But check out some of the outdoor research gloves and mitts bunch of stuff on sale. Ps those are not very warm gloves , If price is an issue try hand warmers and a glove liner .

Hestra heli glove. warm and they already have a precurve eagle claw grip. You can also remove the liner to dry it. It comes with its own leather polish that helps the leather live longer. They have a cool leash so when you take them off you don't have to drop them in snow.

They are tuff to get back to the original form once they bend. Try to iron it with a ton of starch spray . It will make it stiff

Down is great for warmth but the outer fabric is not tuff if you buzz across something , Get a shell and a fleece for under it. Shells never die!

I can tell you the difference from trying both mitts and both the heli glove and xcr you asked about also .
1. both are very warm but each has a slightly different insulation one goes getter with each outer shell.
2. Both have a water proof shell The xcr has a different material on it then the heli both work good.
3. xcr has a bit more stiffness to the glove because of the shell it has for water proofing.
4. for me the heli is a little more comfortable because of the softer insulation and outer shell fabric.
5. The heli is a bit easier to grab with
6. The xcr focus is a bit more for water proofing then extreme cold .
Hope this helps each is a excellent choice I would say choose the xcr for more skiing snow board etc The heli for more extreme cold and mountain climbing or cold winter treks. ENJOY!

Hey Bro get the XCR no lie I have seen several of the top teams summit Everest !! with these exact gloves on! And it was -40 that day at the top of the World!! Go to the Hestrausa website they have a cool way you can look at these They have a few different liners for them! this will make a huge impact on warmth . But they are built to last! Don't wasted time the Eco thing is a gimmick bro. The mitts they make in the army model and gloves are nice also!!PS, get some hand warmers for them, when you go out in that type of cold. makes a huge difference less suffering!

Well look at the long cord there is a little plastic washer , put your hand inside the two ends of the cord and slide up the washer tighton your wrist . You can adjust the size of the length of the leash by just taking up the slack on your wrist. :)

Well maybe if you dump snow could Get in but they are the warmest made.I really don't feel the ultimates are worth the money . I have used both in very cold weather dan.try out these they are better then the ultimate, much better movement just as warm with a one hand cinch .Mountian Hardwears Habenero glove I have gone on a 7 mile hike in knee deep snow holding poles These are the best unknown gloves made . They are super cool looking also! I'm posting some pics sunday as im going out with those and the black diamonds for a test hike. With alot of other gear from backcountry I feel you need to take this stuffto the limits to give people a real honest feedback, not just taking a tent out and making a fire and pretty pics and saying it works.
