Best Tandem for Fishing

Ocean Kayak Malibu Two XL Tandem Kayak

Ocean Kayak Malibu Two XL Tandem Kayak

Rating for this product: 5 October 23, 2008

I use this model when I'm fishing in Kona, Hawaii. You just can't go wrong with this model. Ample inner storage once you get some hatches installed and the top deck can accommodate just about any deck layout you want to customize. I have two flush mount rod holders behind the rear seat and a scotty rod holder in front of the forward seat. The fish bag cooler sit inside the hull underneath the center hatch and holds the drinks and food when not holding fish. I also use this solo. I've added extra nylon padeyes so I can hook up the kayak seat in the middle and then setup a milkcrate with rod holders where the rear seating area is. She paddles great on the flat Kona waters and can take the wake of passing charters with ease (although they are supposed to slow down when passing not motorized vessels). Surf launches and landings have been no problem, as long as you know what you are doing. This is just a great kayak whether loaded up to fish or bare bones to just cruise around and take in the scenery with a partner.

Rips in the surf

Werner Tybee 2 Piece Paddle - Straight Shaft Glass

Werner Tybee 2 Piece Paddle - Straight Shaft Glass

Rating for this product: 5 October 23, 2008

I own several kayaks and needed a shorter but beefy paddle for playing around in the surf. It also had to be light with a blade that can really push water. This paddle fits the bill and then some. Surfing the breaks in Kalaeloa, Hawaii on my Wavewitch while using this paddle made it such a difference than when I was using the aluminum/plastic paddles the waveski came with. It was a total 180. One sweep and I had the ski turned around and two strokes had enough push to put me over the lip for late take offs. The paddle also takes a regular beating. I'm hard on my gear and I expect 'em to hold up. I've since sold off all my aluminum/plastic paddles because I just won't go back to them after using this and another glass paddle I purchased from here.
