La Sportiva Mantis Climbing Shoe

August 1, 2009

I currently climb in Scorpions, and I love the way they fit. I'm looking to make the switch to something with with a velcro-strap system since the laces make the on-off process a little too involved when out in the boulder fields. The Mantis look very similar in shape and style to the Scorps, but of course with the straps in the place of laces. Do they have a similar fit and function?

I've also been toying with the idea of going with something a little more aggressive, but still not super hardcore. Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Metolius BRD w/ Element Locking Biner Set

This is my first belay set up, and I am very content with it. The carabiner is a little small, but definately beefy enough to do the job. The ATC is great and brakes really well. For small hands or for someone looking for a compact belay set up, I highly recommend this. It's a good bargain as well.

La Sportiva Scorpion Climbing Shoe

La Sportiva Scorpion Climbing Shoe

Rating for this product: 5 October 10, 2008

I just started climbing recently so I don't know alot, but I ended up buying these shoes for my first pair of climbing shoes. I wear a 9.5-10 street shoe and I bought these shoes in a 42 Euro/9 US. At first they killed my feet and made me want to knaw off my feet at the ankles, but I was told this is normal for climbing shoes. Sure enough, after only a few sessions on an indoor wall they started to feel much better. Thus far they continue to get more comfortable everytime I put them on. I think I could have even gone another size or two lower if I were really hardcore, but comfort and enjoyment is more important at this point. They grip really well for working on more technical footwork or for scrambling up the wall in any which way (I do more of the latter). All in all, I give the Scorpions two thumbs up!
