Awesome as a trail running baselayer

Backcountry.com Merino Bliss Lightweight Long Underwear Top - Men's

Backcountry.com Merino Bliss Lightweight Long Underwear Top - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 6 days ago

I love this shirt. I use it mostly as a baselayer on cold days with a breathable jacket or vest. The long zipper is awesome for temperature control. It is long so it doesn't let the cold air in on my mid-section. The sleeves are a bit long for me and bunch up a little bit around my wrists, but no problem. It fits slimmer than any of the other baselayers I have which is awesome!!! It is great to find stuff that is not designed for the "average american". My only complaint is they are out of Mediums!

Awesome Sock

Darn Tough Merino Wool 1/4 Cushion Sock

Darn Tough Merino Wool 1/4 Cushion Sock

Rating for this product: 5 September 29, 2009

The best sock I have hands down. I have run in smartwool socks up to this point and I still think they are good, but the Darn Tough Merino Wool cushion sock is a solid step up in quality. I could see why some may think it is a bit thick/plush, but it is a great sock. You won't be disappointed!

Awesome Jacket

Backcountry.com Shift Softshell Jacket - Men's

Backcountry.com Shift Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 September 17, 2009

Awesome jacket! For those that are thinking of buying one you need to know that it is a very light jacket and has very little insulation value. If you want a jacket with more insulation get something else. I wanted a very light, wind resistant, breathable jacket for running in the winter when it is really cold. This is going to be awesome and exactly what I was looking for. Most jackets are bulky, especially in the pocket areas which is bothersome when running due to the swaying. I love the fit as it is an athletic fit which works best for the active crowd and isn't built with belly room like most jackets are now days in an effort to appeal to the masses that have bellies. It runs small by comparison to most jackets. I would say a medium in this jacket is mid way between a normal small and a normal medium in most other brands. I have the Backcountry Rime Pullover as well and the fit is the same there. I love the material of both. I ran a bunch in the Rime last year on fairly cold days but on the coldest days it was just not quite enough. The Shift Jacket will be perfect.

Great Shoes

Montrail Streak Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Montrail Streak Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 June 4, 2009

I was a bit suspicious at first. When I think of running shoes I think of Adidas, Asics, etc. not hiking shoe companies with their heavy bulky stiff shoes (even if I am going going off road). These are some of the best trail shoes I have had. Light, comfy stable, I can't think of a serious complaint. I am just dropping a note while I am here picking up my second pair.

I really like it!!

Backcountry.com Rime Pullover Jacket - Men's

Backcountry.com Rime Pullover Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 8, 2009

Everybody is right, it runs a bit small. I am typically a Medium and sometimes a small (5'8" and 165 lbs). I run in the Rime with a craft pro zero extreme base layer and there isn't any extra space. I have enough space and no complaints because it is just what I wanted. If you plan on wearing much under it at all I would suggest to size up. Some have complained about the lack of pockets. I use mine for running and don't want or need pockets. Others have complained about a stiff collar and it has some very slight stiffness that I think makes it look sharper on. I haven't found it uncomfortable at all. Of all the running pieces I have it is one of my favorites.

Great jacket just didn't fit me well

Marmot DriClime Catalyst Jacket - Men's

Marmot DriClime Catalyst Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 January 7, 2009

I have the Driclime vest and it is phenomenal for running so I thought I would get this to add to the stash for slightly colder days. I know Driclime is a great material and it would be great for running, but when I tried the jacket on I felt like I didn't have enough belly for it so I returned it. A+ on material and construction, D (for me) on fit. I'm in good shape and have an athletic build but nothing that I think would be unusual for the outdoor crowd that shops here. I'm 5' 9" weigh 165 lbs and normally wear a Medium. It fit well in the shoulders but I'm going to need to up my sucrose encrusted torus consumption before I get this jacket.

Nice Fit (for me)

Carhartt Series 1889 Denim Pant - Men's

Carhartt Series 1889 Denim Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 2, 2009

I have a hard time finding pants that fit me very well but these fit great (for me at least). I am short from crotch to waist and have a 32" waist, and 28" legs. I'm not heavy or overly muscular as the dimensions would make it sound. I don't look any different than anybody else on the street, I just need room in the thigh I also tried the 1889 relaxed straight fit version but sent them back because they were too tall a "rise" and a very different fit and didn't work for me. If you don't like one you may want to try the other 1889 version. They are tough and appear that they will last a long time. I am totally happy with these.

Nice Socks

Backcountry.com Merino Trail Sock - 3 Pair

Backcountry.com Merino Trail Sock - 3 Pair

Rating for this product: 5 December 17, 2008

I have been looking for a nice pair of lightly cushioned brown socks for both running and to wear to work with my brown shoes on casual friday's. These are great socks! For running they have just the right amount of cushion, not too much not too little. I wore them in Moab on a trail run and they didn't look dirt stained out of the wash like often happens with lighter socks. They look great with my brown shoes on casual friday as well. I liked so much I bought another 6 pair.

Works well as a running vest!

Marmot DriClime Vest - Men's

Marmot DriClime Vest - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 15, 2008

This is my first DryClime product. I ran on a breezy cool 25 degree winter day and it was perfect with nothing but a baselayer. The vest is very light and was as warm or warmer than my fleece vest because of the wind protection while being only half as bulky. It also worked well on a day with no breeze and displaced moisture so well it felt dry at the end of the run. It doesn't have as much insulating value as my fleece vest when I am standing around, but then standing around isn't why I got it. If you run in cooler weather it is a great piece to have.
