I've only worn as warm ups on race days. They make a really dashing looking warm up, that's easy to get on and off, without taking shoes off. I suppose if I had to run in cold rain/wind or snow, I'd wear them then, otherwise I'd be afraid of overheating.

Full price, I'd go for something a bit more technical from a mountaineering brand. The key word here is "water-resistant." Don't think this jacket is going to last more than 10 minutes in heavy rain. I have both the vest and the jacket and so far I've reached for the vest more often because it's more flexible in a variety of conditions. I mostly use mine as a warm up on race day because it's quick on and off, is light and small in my bag and matches beautifully with the pants. I will probably be using this jacket more for running as the winter sets in. So far I haven't really needed it.

A note on the fit. I got a medium, but it's a tad tight across the hips. This is a really common problem with jackets of this type and in fact almost all backpacking brand jackets of this style have the same issue for me. I just have wider hips. I'm so used to this I typically order a large, just to get past that. Since this is a boxy cut, I got away with a medium.

Like all CW-x products this is well-made and well thought out details for a runner. I love that the pockets zip shut so you can store a supply of energy gels or whatever. I like the "visibility" points that are subtle, but effective. I like the ventilation, which is probably 90% of the game when running in wet weather.

I have the whole Element X line, and I reach for this piece most often. It's very versatile when the weather is just on the cusp of needing a jacket. I usually layer this over a a long sleeve shirt (CW-x makes some great ones) and stuff it into my hydration pack when it warms up. This has been the best system for long runs when you have to get up very early and it's cold and windy.

I'm not sure the description is quite accurate on this product. The mesh panels are on the lower back and sides, not the upper back.

One way the vest could be improved would be to have some sort of zipper pocket. For shorter runs when I don't have my pack, it'd be nice to have a place to store key, money, energy gels, etc.

Also, as with the jacket the fit is a tad tight across the hip if you are curvy. It's a boxy cut so I've benn able to get away with it.

Don't be fooled by the light weight feel of this hoody. It's as warm as a much heavier cotton sweatshirt. I love the thumbholes, I love the way this hoody drapes. It's as cozy and comfy as my big bulky sweatshirt, but certainly looks more attractive. It breathes pretty well, sheds wind and is fast drying. This a great piece for traveling or hiking when you want to save weight and space.

Great for X-country skiing, running, snow shoveling, hiking or any other activity outside in the winter when you are going to be moving a lot. These are all you'll ever need for most people as they keep you warm down to 20 degrees. (I've been fine wearing mine in subzero wind chills skiing, as long as you have some warmer layers on top. ) They are incredibly tough. Many, many spills skiing and more than five years later and no rips or tears. The knees don't even look warn out. The 3 sp fabric is almost like a matte neoprene on the outside and cozy fleece on the inside. Granted I don't wear these every day, but use them maybe a dozen times during the winter. I baby them in the wash, using gentle cycle and line dry and they just keep going. Well worth the money.

Sporthill has other great products for skiing and running, but I really think the XC line is the pinnacle.

I bought these because I was looking for "real" compression shorts for under $40. I was also excited about the promise of heat gear in the summer for long runs in the heat. These ride up, pretty terribly, so you don't get much compression benefit from them if you have larger than supermodel sized thighs. They are no cooler than the faux compression shorts I got at Target for $10. Also, I bought these in july and 10 weeks later they are pretty trashed. I've been wearing them once a week for running, washing on gentle cycle and line drying but they are starting to snag and fray. (To be fair, I do run on trails and occasionally encounter knettles and branches, so maybe they would hold up better with lighter use.) I just tried Go-lite slim kickins and they are everything this short is not.

I have used the sailfin for long trail runs for about 6 months. I love it. I respectfully disagree with "Barrett" about its appropriateness for a half marathon. I'm training for a trail half marathon and I love it. I've used it in longer races. Great when you want to blow past the aid station. What's going to slow you down more, the weight of a small plack/plus water (Or Gu20) or actually stopping in a crowd of people to drink. Also carrying a water bottle in your hand or on your waist is way more of an annoyance than a small pack in my opinion. I can keep running and drink, which is the number one reason I carry it. I forget the sailfin is there, unless it's sloshing. (Tip: make sure you squeeze all the air out of the bladder and it won't make as much noise.) On hot days the evaporative cooling effect from the back of the pack (It has some kind of crazy mesh covered neoprene looking back panel material) actually helps keep me cool. Helps stow all my junk when I'm out trail running (light jacket or vest, cell phone, energy gel, etc) which is great if I'm going to be away from my car for 2-3 hours.

I love the freedom of not having to stop for water or plan water into my routes. This 50 ounce bladder holds all the liquid I've ever needed for 10-15 mile runs. The North Face hydration system works better than Camel Back in my opinion as it's easier to get in and out, fill and clean.
