For 2009, the only zip-in styles are the Cauldron Jacket and Vest. The nice thing about a shelled synthetic liner is it allows for easier movement between the liner and jacket since it has a smooth face.

Fill weight on the Ama Dablam is 125 grams of 800 fill power down. Center front is 24" and center back is 29.5" and total weight is 18 ozs. With respect to the Fitz Roy Hoody, it a bit of a apples to oranges comparison, as the Ama is designed as an ultralight, packable hoody great for less cold conditions and layering. A better comparison might be to the Marmot Greenland Baffled Jacket which is much, much warmer. (300 grams 800 fill down)

The lining is Marmot's Driclime, which like a very lightweight fleece with tremendous wicking capabilities. The Driclime windshirt is very light weight and packable and is the one piece that goes on every trip I take.

Center front length is 23" and center back is 29.5", so yes the back extends down a bit more for tucking in during layering. Some of the older versions of this windshirt had a much longer dropped back.

Can't comment on the other brands, but it sounds like the Iceland is just what you're looking for. It's a longer cut, baffled 800 fill down jacket with a waterproof shell, so it should be able to handle anything a Minnesota winter can throw at you. Hope this helps.

The Zeus uses a very lightweight fabric which is mildly water and wind resistant. It works great in cold but dry conditions or as a layering piece under a shell. If you're looking for a down piece to use as outerwear in wet conditions check out the Mountain Down Jacket from Marmot. It has a Membrain shell.

Main difference is the liner. The 2009-2010 version has Garmont's new Rapid liner. Denser, non thermoformable foam on the sole helps prevent pack out. Also, it has more toe room, due to thinner and elastic foam in the toes. Difference in the shell are new buckles and new colors.

The Aegis is a little more fitted than the Precip, but if you got the same size as your Precip jacket, you should still be able to layer under it. Hope this helps.

The shell's have changed since 2005 (then pertex quantum now lightforce) but I would guess the water resistance of the two fabrics are fairly similar. If you really need water protection you could go to the warmer Helium EQ bag, which uses a laminated Membrain shell.

I can't comment on the other 2, but having used the Leadville a ton, I can say it offers a great combination of breathablity and weather protection. The windstopper front and back keep the weather out, while the breathable side panels do a great job dumping heat and moisture when you're working hard. I also like how stretchy and lightweight it is. Not the warmest soft shell out there, but it works great for aerobic uses as well as layering.

The Radium is designed as an beefy but light backcountry ski boots and in order to keep the weight down it doesn't have swappable soles, so Garmont doesn't recommend using it with alpine binging. Check out the Endorphin if your looking for a boot for both AT and alpine.

Yes, it can be washed safely and in fact, if you do it right, washing can help rejuvenate the down. First use a high quality down soap like those made by Nikwax and Granger's. Then use a large front loading commercial washing machine, not your home job which has an agitator, which can rip out the baffles. After washing use a large capacity commercial dryer on low or no heat and plan on spending a good portion of the day drying it. As it starts to dry add a couple tennis balls to the dryer to break up the down clumps or just stop every once in a while and pull them a part by hand. When you pull the wet bag from the washer be sure to scoop it up rather than pull as the heavy wet down could tear out a baffle.

The tent is free standing, but to create a vestibule the rain fly needs to be staked out at each door. It's always a good idea to stake or somehow anchor your tent to keep it from becoming a giant kite in the wind.

This is a heavy weight sock, so you would need to make sure you had enough room in your xc boots so you don't restrict your circulation. If so, then this sock would be fine. Most people use the mid weight Trekker sock or the Bridgedale Cross Country sock for XC skiing.

The Leadville is quite a bit lighter than the Gravity, but not quite as warm. The Leadville has Windstopper fabric front and back with air permeable side panels, so it does a great job of blocking the wind but allows for breathability. I would say the gravity is best for someone looking for a warm softshell and the Leadville is best for someone looking for a softshell for faster paced activity's.

Marmot does make this pant is short and long lengths. A med long has a 34" inseam and a med short has a 30" inseam. The reg length in a med is 32".

Although the Scree pant is pretty breathable, it might be a little warm for 70-80 temps. It's best as a spring hike/ski/climbing pant. You might check out the Marmot Estes pant. It is a lighter weight stretch nylon pant that works great in warmer conditions.

If you're a half size I recommend going up to the next full size for the Sole flip flops.

The Twilight 2P is a fully seam taped tent so it is completely waterproof. Also the weight of 5 lbs 9 oz is with the included footprint and gear loft. The minimum weight is 5 lbs 4 oz (that's the weight of the tent, poles and rain fly)and is only 6 oz heavier that the Hubba Hubba. It also have 5 more square feet and is $90 less that the Hubba if you also buy the footprint. Both are great tents, just wanted to lay out the facts.

This jacket is meant to be super light and packable so instead of pit zips it has a small opening (exhaust vent) directly under the arm pit. It works almost as well as pit zips without the weight and bulk. Also the description is incorrect. This is the 2009 version of the essence jacket which was upgraded to Marmot's Membrain Strata fabric, which is much more breathable than Precip. It's incredibly storm worthy at only 8 ozs. The Ion and Motion are both great super light windshirts. The only difference is hood versus no hood and the color blocking. The simple reason for 2 styles is some people want a hood and some don't. The Rush is a full rain jacket (waterproof/breathable fabric and taped seams) while the Ion and Motion are just water repellent and windproof. Both have a front chest pocket.
