Mountain Hardwear Synchro Softshell Jacket - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Synchro Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 August 6, 2009

Waterproof and warm; but it started to pill after less than a year of use (its now 2.5 years old). It is pilling pretty much everywhere something rubs the jacket such as arm to arm and from backpacks. Same thing is happening to my friends that was bought a year ago to a much worse extent. I also think the mesh on the inside of the pockets is going to wear through with more use. The jacket otherwise has great features and a very durable and weatherproof exterior. I am ~6' and 150 lbs, I went for the large. Its big around the body so I can layer a lot, the arms are about the correct length. Great for the job, but for the money I expect better quality.

Sweet watch.

Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS

Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS

Rating for this product: 4 August 5, 2009

I really expected it to be big and annoying, but I do not notice it while running. Accurate tracking and great interface options with the computer. I have not had any problems in the woods, it holds a signal well once it initially locks on (can take up to two minutes if cloudy). Take the altitude data with a grain of salt; this uses gps for altitude instead of an actual altimeter, so it can be off by like 15 feet vertical even though the path is dead on.

My only complaint is battery life. I get maybe 6-7 hours with the heart rate monitor active, you also need to charge it within a few days of using, the battery discharges fast sitting around unused.

Nice pack

DAKINE Heli Winter Backpack - 660cu in

DAKINE Heli Winter Backpack - 660cu in

Rating for this product: 4 August 5, 2009

Great small pack that makes it easy to sit on the lift with. I prefer the extra space and padding of my heli pro for leaving heading off the ski resort though. The quality a few years ago was better; I dislike the coated metal ski carry loop on this model. These packs do last a long time, they are a great value.

Metolius Super Chalk Eco Ball

Metolius Super Chalk Eco Ball

Rating for this product: 5 August 5, 2009

A little goes a long way to pull moisture from your hands (keep in mind my hands do not sweat much). An excellent choice when you cannot use standard chalk. I could not see any marks and I use less so buildup would in theory be less of a problem. It does feel different, so try it out to get used to it before heading out for a long climb.

Sea To Summit 100% Premium Silk Sleeping Bag Liner

Sea To Summit 100% Premium Silk Sleeping Bag Liner

Rating for this product: 4 August 4, 2009

Great as a bag liner when backpacking, and so soft I sometimes just wad it up to use as a small makeshift pillow. It drapes close in over the skin trapping a lot of warmth. They are pricey though.

Sea To Summit 100% Premium Silk Sleeping Bag Liner

August 4, 2009

I have the hooded mummy. It is really so slick that it does not tend to wind up. It will either slide against you or the sleeping bag. Turning is a bit limited though as this is top open only.

Lafuma X650 Pro Sleeping Bag: 40 Degree Synthetic

Lafuma X650 Pro Sleeping Bag: 40 Degree Synthetic

Rating for this product: 5 August 4, 2009

This is a great little bag; packs small and light. I take it on all my summer trips, but would agree that you will need a layer of clothes to make the 40f rating. Obviously since it is a light bag it is a bit on the fragile side. Take extra care when zipping up.

Great Shell

Backcountry.com Stoic 2.0 Shell - Men's

Backcountry.com Stoic 2.0 Shell - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 August 4, 2009

I am 6', 150lbs. The medium fits well with room for medium weight fleece. The summit sky is truly bright sky colored with a hint of green. Additional features: there is also an open mesh pocket on the inside. The hood has two bungee adjustments, one for the face opening, and another that tightens to the the back of the head. Will be a great jacket for winter, I only wish the bungee lines used for the waist and hood were a bit thicker.
