The many adjustments on this pack make this comfortable for just about anyone. This pack is very well made. The company is small and takes great care of it's customers and pride in it's products.

Granite Gear Nimbus Meridian Backpack - 3400-3800cu in

You can adjust how high or low they are anchored to the frame (To dial in a custom fit for your torso length), you can also remove them to replace with straps of different widths. I chose to get the wider straps because my chest is a little wider. There are also other options for the hip belt as well. In short, very customizable.

Chaco Flip Sandal - Men's

Chaco Flip Sandal - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 September 25, 2009

As a lifeguard I have gone through many pairs of flip flops. At first I got Tevas, but they only lasted me a year because the sole would wear down to nothing. Not to mention, the soft foam padding was horrible for support. Then one day my wife bought me a pair of these. At first I was hesitant on the price, but it wasn't long before I knew nothing could compare! These have lasted me over 2 years of very heavy wear, getting wet daily in harsh pool water, beat down by the rays of the sun, hundreds of miles walking, and more. I am around 200 lbs and these give me the support I need to be on my feet and walking all day (on hard and abraisive concrete). They're expensive for only being flip flops, but after my experience I would pay full price any day. Buy these and you'll be spoiled for life.

They don't mention that they are waterproof because they aren't. Usually the waterproof bags are reserved for canoeing or kayaking, not so much hiking. Pack covers are like rain jackets for your pack, some packs come with integrated pack covers, others you have to buy separately.

Black Diamond WindWeight Glove

Black Diamond WindWeight Glove

Rating for this product: 4 April 14, 2009

When it gets in the negatives, it's nice to have a glove that still has some dexterity and grip, this glove does that nicely. When doing heavy aerobic activities, this glove gets too hot and doesn't wick sweat away that well. It works great for skiing, especially if you have a hardshell mitten for backup.

Kelty Light Year Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Down

April 10, 2009

When you mate sleeping bags, one has to be left zip, the other right zip, as well as the same zipper gauge (not a problem when you are buying 2 of the same bag). I am giving you this bag as an example of what to look for as far as left/Right zip.

http://www.backcountry.com/store/MTB0052/MontBell-Super-Stretch-Burrow-1-Sleeping-Bag-15-Degree-Synthetic.html

Osprey Packs Waypoint 60 Backpack - Women's - 3500-3700cu in

April 9, 2009

Most airlines allow carry-on baggage no larger than 22 x 14 x 9 inches, with the linear measurement (length + width + height) not to exceed 45 inches.
# Small: 26 x 14 x 10 in (50in)
# Medium: 27 x 14 x 11 in (52in)

So, you would be pushing your luck with this pack. And yes, these are the dimensions without the day pack. I think it is designed to check the pack and have the day pack as a carry-on.

The North Face Minibus 23 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

April 7, 2009

Comfort is such a subjective thing. I can tell you this, I have a 2 person tent that is 60" wide and I wouldn't have it any other way. I like to conceptualize how well a 25" sleeping pad (or 2) will fit in there. In your case, you would have 4" of wiggle room comfort. Now given there will be a slight slope on the sides, that brings your comfort space down even further. As for gear, you have tons of vestiblue space. If you are really set on this tent, best advice would be sleep toe to head.

I have the Big Agnes Sunnyside 2, but th Parkview 2 by Big Agnes practically the same thing except lighter. Definitely a a two person tent!

Great for car camping

MSR Alpine Stowaway Pots

MSR Alpine Stowaway Pots

Rating for this product: 4 April 6, 2009

I have the 1.6L and I use it strictly for car camping. I couple this with 2 msr stainless steel bowls and it fits perfectly (no rattle) with plenty of room to spare for utensils, food or anything else you may need. I like that it locks together tight so that you have the option of storing food away from the critters. Certainly not lightweight, but I never expected it to be.

I honestly didn't see the point in buying another hard plastic nalgene. I didn't like that I had to recycle all my other bottles, so I figured I would go with the one that has stuck around for a while. It's lighter, has a softer feel and I found that the printing (measurements) sticks better vs the hard plastic

MSR Alpine Stainless Steel Bowl

Rating for this product: 5 April 3, 2009

I bought these over the titanium snow peak bowls because the oz that I saved and the extra cost didn't seam worth it. I know 2 of these bowls fit perfectly (with no rattling) inside the msr stowaway pot 1100ml. The North Face Ingrid Backpack - Women's - 1460cu in

April 1, 2009

If it is anything like my north face recon pack, the sleeve is very minimally padded on the inside, where you probably don't need all that much protection. The sleeve feels like a very thin piece of foam (almost paper thin) is between the nylon, definitely not just sheer material. On on the outside, you have the padding along your back that protects the other side of the laptop.

GoLite Odyssey Expedition Pack - 5500-5800 cu in

March 31, 2009

You could disappear for a couple weeks with this pack! If you are planning on a weekend trip, this is overkill, unless you are being the pack mule for you and your friend. If you are planning an extended trip, then you are probably looking in the right spot. General guidelines for a weekend pack are 40-70L (2-4 days) and 70L+ for 5 days or more. It also depends on the season (winter = more gear), how light you pack (comfort usually takes up more room) and extras you plan on bringing (rock climbing, camera gear). However, if you want a do it all pack, this looks like a good one.

The bag does take up quite a bit of room, but it will fit into your pack. It all depends on how light you plan on packing. Consider compression straps to lessen the bulk.

Laken Kukuxumusu Thermo Bottle - 0.5L

Rating for this product: 4 March 30, 2009

Pretty much any double walled metal vacuum-insulated thermos will keep your beverage warm for multiple hours, this one is no different. At first I liked the push button top, as it is convenient and requires one hand for operation. If I were to change one thing it would be to have a simple screw top that is easy to clean. When you finish pouring, close the top and then pour any remaining drops that might still be left in the cap, this will lessen the leakage. Overall a good product, especially if found on sale.

The North Face Sure Shot Backpack - 2150cu in

March 29, 2009

I have the North Face Recon, which is slightly smaller. As far as cubic inches, it could hold 5 gallons (1155 cu in) easy, but that would be if there was the only compartment and the gallons were to take up any shape. I would say 4 would fit, 5 would be pushing it. When dealing with gallon jugs you have space that is wasted on on the handle and such, if you were to use a more bag like (pliable) container, you could get the full 5 gallons. Other options would be filling the jugs with sand or taking along actual weights.

This bag was not designed for carrying such heavy loads. Although structurally it could take it, I would not recommend it. The pack doesn't have enough structure to adequately distribute the 30-40lbs you would be carrying and still be comfortable. Consider a small internal frame pack, just a suggestion.

Were you looking at this through a site like tramdock or brociety ? If so, those prices are only offered while the product is featured on the site, then it goes back to the backcountry price after that.

Vaude Asymmetric 50 Backpack - 3050 cu in

March 27, 2009

A few things to consider. Is your tent able fit inside your pack while you stuff everything around it, that would be ideal, as you would want to keep heavier things close to your body and your center of gravity. However this might not be possible. Do you plan on going solo or with a group? A smart way to go is to split up the tent so one person isn't taking all the weight. If neither of those are an option, take the poles of the tent and strap them vertically to the side of your pack, use one of the water bottle holders as base (remember to wrap the bottom end of the poles so they won't rip or tear the mesh), then you can strap or stuff the rest of the soft portion of the tent. Otherwise, be creative and use cord, straps, bungees and whatever else you can do to secure your load. Part of the fun is figuring out how it all goes together. Good luck!

Marmot Oracle Jacket - Men's

Marmot Oracle Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 26, 2009

This Shell is so minimally constructed that you would be a fool not to bring it along with you everywhere you go. It breathes well, vents well and keeps me dry. I've used it all day on the slopes, used it in windy sub zero conditions as well as spring and summer downpours. In all situations it performed great. I love it that if the conditions worsen, you can batton down the hatches to keep you extra protected from the elements.

I have always been a fan of the fitted cap but they have always seamed to be of all cotton design or ugly. True trucker caps have never looked right on me. This is the best of both words, fitted comfort and looks combined with the ventilation of the trucker cap. If you love baseball caps and love the outdoors, get this cap.
