Five Ten Jet 7 Climbing Shoe

Five Ten Jet 7 Climbing Shoe

Rating for this product: 5 July 15, 2009

Been climbing in these for 4 months now, so it's time for a review. I wear a size 10.5 street shoe and got these in a 10. They were more painful to break in than my Evolv Defys but these beat the snot out of my Defys when it comes to edging, heel hooking, and toe hooking. Took about 6 sessions to get them broken in. They're still tight when I put them on for the first time, but once my feet start to sweat, they get really comfy. The rubber is sticky, but honestly...all the brands have sticky rubber. I left these on the roof of my car when I left the gym one night...they were still up there when I got home, so they're sticky! The toe-box on this shoe is what I love the most, it really focuses the weight up on your big toe. The closure system is really easy to tighten and loosen, most of the time I don't even strap them because the shoe doesn't split until mid-foot. After 4 months the mid-foot portion of the arc in the sole is almost completely flat, but the toe is still just as down-turned as the day I got them. I use them bouldering and sport. When they get really dirty, I just toss them in the washing machine on a gentle cycle and let them air dry. I've climbed in Defys and Barracudas - these are my favorite.

Evolv Defy Climbing Shoe- 2009

Evolv Defy Climbing Shoe- 2009

Rating for this product: 5 November 29, 2008

I wear a sz. 10.5 in a street shoe and got these in a sz. 10(43). These are my second pair of climbing shoe, my first being the LS Barracudas which I got in a 43 aswell. The cudas have stretched and no longer allow the precision I want. At half a size small, these shoes are precise! I love the velcro straps for quick in and out. I've noticed that when the shoes are dry I can only keep them for a few minutes at a time before I want them off, but once my feet start sweating they stretch just a little bit and becomes slightly more comfy - only very slightly though, lol. I've only used them indoors so far and love them on tough boulder routes. The edging is great (due to a tighter fit) and the rubber sticks well, smearing is not as good as the cudas IMO. When I get home I give them a quick spray of febreeze and hang them on a quickdraw to air out. I don't wear socks with them. For the price that backcountry has them right now you can't go wrong is you're look for your first shoe or just another pair of gym shoes.

La Sportiva Barracuda Climbing Shoe

As stated before, the sizing is pretty weird. I wear a street shoe sz of 10.5 to 11. The 42.5 were tighter than I prefer so I went with a 43. They're tight enough to hold the smallest holds but still comfortable. I've only used them indoors so far and they rock!

Black Diamond Momentum AL Harness

Black Diamond Momentum AL Harness

Rating for this product: 5 October 3, 2008

Climbed indoors with it for 3 hrs and I never felt it. The price is great for such a nice harness. If you wear a 32 in jeans definitely go with the large so you can tuck away the excess waist loop. I had ordered the md. but the band was about 1/2 in. from being able to be tucked away. It annoyed me, so I ordered the lrg.

Black Diamond Sputnik Chalk Bag

Black Diamond Sputnik Chalk Bag

Rating for this product: 5 October 3, 2008

Ordered the lrg. It does it's job well. I only keep a small amount of loose chalk in the bag since I keep a chalk sock in it aswell. I have fallen a few times in the bouldering room and haven't had chalk fly everywhere.
