Mountain Hardwear Pinnacle Jacket - Men's

Great in all conditions even chasing your lab across a frozen lake. It lets you play harder without having to worry about your gear. If you get too heated the pit zips are a great way to bring you back down.

Patagonia Down Sweater Jacket - Men's
October 20, 2009
It does NOT have the attachment points on the wrists and I am pretty sure that it does not have a reversible zipper. But you could wear it under a shell. It is a nice layering piece.

Patagonia Nano Puff Pullover Insulated Jacket - Men's
September 19, 2009
I would agree I wear an XL in the Capilenes and they fit perfect on me but when I tried on the Large nano it was a little short in the sleeves and waist, so sizing is consistent and an XL is what I need in the nano. Note that it is not a fitted piece, and leans towards the boxy side, but all in all it is an awesome layer. In my opinion go with the Large.

Patagonia Nano Puff Pullover Insulated Jacket - Men's
September 19, 2009
This would be solid in the 30-40 degree range. Warmth is tricky to judge because it varies greatly depending on what other layers are being warm and personal factors like body type and activity level. With a fleece vest over it and walking I personally would be fine in it down into maybe the 20's if walking around town. Ultimately this is more of a light weight layering piece than your typical insulating winter jacket. Hope my opinions help.

Can this be used on an eVent shell? I already have this for my softshells... so it would be nice if it worked.

Backcountry.com Stoic 2.0 Shell - Men's
September 1, 2009
I am pretty sure that they are about to bring in their stuff for this season, that may be redesigned or in different colors. You can try asking the guys on live chat but last I checked they had not been given a date of when that would be.

Backcountry.com Stoic eVent Shell - Men's
August 25, 2009
The fit of BC stuff is very athletic cut/fitted. If a medium in other brands tends to "just fit right" I would consider sizing up, esp. since you are concerned about layers. I am 6'4" 36 waist and the XL works great for me... If that is of any help for reference. If all else fails order 2 and send one back. But bottom line i would say get a large.

Backcountry.com Stoic eVent Shell - Men's
August 24, 2009
From the guys I have talked to at gear shops and other places the breathable rating has to be "experienced" to fully understand it, and that the written rating does not give you a good idea of the difference. They said they no longer use goretex anymore and only buy stuff with eVent. They speak of eVent fabric with tones of awe and wonder in their voices. They almost act like the people on the commercials who switch from PCs to MAcs, they say they will never go back to goretex. So that does not really answer your question but I hope it helps..

Backcountry.com Stoic 2.0 Shell - Men's
August 23, 2009
I have both and the shift has a lot more stretch in it because of the powershield, so by comparison the stoic will seem pretty stiff. The stoic is much more waterproof but that is to be expected because it is a hardshell. If you have any more specific questions about the 2 just let me know.

It is more similar, in my opinion, to the Westcomb Specter LT Hooded Jacket.

My only thought is try using a webbing belt on them... I like these pants so much I think everyone should get a pair. But it is understandable if sizing does not work out.

Backcountry.com Shift Welder Hoody - Men's
July 31, 2009
How come this jacket doesn't say "shift" or "welder" on the sleeve or anything? The Stoic wears its name, and so does the Luft down sweater. I really don't care that much I just was looking over the coat trying to find it and no where did it say "shift" or "welder"

I don't think it will harm the material. Depending on what thread you use, the thread may siphon some water in but it should not be a significant amount.

I would suggest medium because length is important to me and you can always wear a belt. BC brand stuff typically runs a bit small/fitted too. If they don't work out you can return them.

Same material, similar design, both are very fitted. I think the Arcteryx one is a little thicker. But if you follow BC on twitter this week you can get a code to get this jacket for about $85... The Gamma is certainly not worth 2.5 times this jacket. but that is just my 2 cents. Both are great

just put it on and go, washing clothes breaks them down more than wearing them in most situations. you might need to wash it when you get back but wool does a pretty good job of not picking up odor. no need to wash it more than necessary. have fun

the BC shift, best value. this may not bother you but the north face is owned by vanity fair... they sold out. Arcteryx is sweet if you have the money but many of their softshells are made with the same material polartec powersheild, so it just depends on if you want to buy a brand or function...

Backcountry.com Stoic 2.0 Shell - Men's
July 26, 2009
You should be fine while moving, temperature comfort varies greatly person to person. My opinion is that you would be fine with a soft shell underneath provided that you had a solid base layer on under that. You may get chilly while resting but while moving you should be toasty. remember though it is a shell, not an insulating peice
