Gore Bike Wear Xenon II Jacket - Men's
December 13, 2008
Our WINDSTOPPER® product line would be perfect for your riding conditions. WINDSTOPPER® is totally windproof and breathable while being highly water-resistant. We do not call it waterproof as the seams and zippers are not sealed. Therefore, if you were caught in some rain, you would be able to ride for another 45-90 mins before you might experience any seepage at the seams or zipper. For off-road, I would look at the Alp-X Zip Off jacket because of its versatility. For road riders, the Xenon is a great jacket if you are really lean, like a skin tight fit and want a jacket that is packable as it will fit in your jersey pocket. When you first put on the jacket it seems odd as the front is very short and the tail is long. But like all of our clothing, it is designed for the final riding position so if you simulate this position, you'll see that the short front and long back are perfect as is the arm length. You'll need to beef up/add a mid layer if you are going to wear it in colder weather. If you prefer a jacket that is a little bit warmer and not as tight, I would recommend the Phantom. It is a SoftShell jacket so it will have a more thermal protection than the Xenon but it isn't packable. It does have removable sleeves which allow it to be worn as a jacket or a jersey. For both the Phantom and Alp-X Zip Off, you have the option of unzipping the arms part way to allow more air into the jacket if you desire.Lastly, a good baselayer is one that is a tight fitting baselayer against the skin that which will wick the moisture away from the skin. There are a number of different brands out there which will do the job and I'm sure that you can find some good choices on this site.Good luck and thanks for your interest in GORE BIKE WEAR™DaveAs for your feet, the Oxygen overshoe would be a good choice or you could wear the Oxygen thermal overshoe. The thermal will be warmer but the trade off will be that you can wear the non-thermal version more throughout the year.

Gore Bike Wear Alp X Zip-Off Jacket - Men's
December 13, 2008
I would take a look at the Phantom. The arms zip off turning the jacket into a jersey. The WINDSTOPPER® SoftShell material is also very well liked as are the 3 rear carrying pockets.Dave GORE BIKE WEAR™

That is correct. Another nice feature is that you can unzip the arms partially and create a pitzip to allow more air into the jacket if the weather is between a vest and a jacket.Dave - GORE BIKE WEAR(tm)

Gore Bike Wear Alp X Zip-Off Jacket - Men's
November 2, 2008
The Alp-X Zip-Off, while can be worn for the road, is designed more for off-road use. Both jackets are made from WINDSTOPPER® Active Shell however the Alp-X ZipOff has a mesh liner in parts as well as a chest and lower back pocket. This jacket has a slim fit cut.The Xenon II WINDSTOPPER® jacket has a tight fit cut and is designed for the high-end road rider. The front is very short and the tail is very long as it is made to be worn by a very fit rider who often rides in the drops or aero bars. It does not have any pockets but does come with a separate stuff sack that you can put the jacket in and then place in your jersey pocket.Dave - GORE BIKE WEAR®

Gore Bike Wear Xenon II Jacket - Men's
November 1, 2008
The WINDSTOPPER® material that this is made of is completely windproof and highly water resistant. Therefore, it will keep the cold air from reaching your body's perspiration and chilling it thereby making you feel cold. You can wear a jersey underneath it for spring, summer and early fall riding. However if you are going to wear it for winter riding, you'll need to add a mid-layer over a baselayer as that will provide your insulation. Therefore, you may need to size up if you are going to be wearing a thick mid-layer. This jacket is made to be worn skin tight as it is for the performance rider who will most often be riding in an more aggressive/aerodynamic position. That is why it has a short front and a longer back. It may initially feel awkard when you try it on but as soon as you assume a riding position, you will see that the cut is perfect.Dave - GORE BIKE WEAR™

Gore Bike Wear Alp X Zip-Off Jacket - Women's
October 29, 2008
This jacket is highly water resistant but not waterproof. While water will not penetrate the body or arms, you might experience some seepage after a while when worn in steady rain as the seams are not sealed and the zippers are not waterproof. If you are seeking a fully waterproof jacket, you should check out the Alp-X or Power jackets as they are made of GORE-TEX® Paclite® which is fully windproof and waterproof. All GORE-TEX® jackets carry the lifetime "Guaranteed To Keep You Dry" promise.Dave - GORE BIKE WEAR™

Gore Bike Wear Alp X Zip-Off Jacket - Men's
October 20, 2008
You will find the Alp-X Zip Off Jacket to be more breathable than Paclite®. Additionally, the zippers on the Alp-X Zip Off are configured in such a way that you can unzip the sleeves partly thereby creating pit zips which, when opened, will allow more air into the jacket. You might also try wearing a thinner base layer and/or mid layer as both jackets are totally windproof. By keeping the wind from reaching the perspiration on your body, your body does not get chilled and many often feel that they can wear less under the jacket and still remain comfortable. Hope this helpsDave - GORE BIKE WEAR™

Gore Bike Wear Xenon II Jacket - Men's
September 15, 2008
We say that it is highly water resistant as we do not tape the seams which would make it waterproof. If you are to go out riding and get caught in the rain, you should stay dry as the only point where water may enter the jacket would be at the seams. If you are looking for a waterproof jacket, check out one of the GORE-TEX(r) models.DaveGORE BIKE WEAR(tm)
