  • Bio:

I am a recent graduate from Frostburg State University with a BS in Wildlife. As such I enjoy pretty much anything outdoors. Right now I'm mostly into birding, hiking, camping, and backpacking, but eventually I'd like to get into rock climbing (when I build up some arm and finger strength!)

Montrail Enduro Sole LP Footbed DO NOT USE

November 11, 2008

I'm a little unsure of what size to order. I have the women's Asolo Stynger GTX boots in a size 8.5, and they're pretty narrow. I want to get the low profile, but are they going to be narrow enough, or am I going to have to get the women's version (and sacrifice the LP)?

Sweet Jacket

Marmot Furnace Fleece Jacket - Women's

Marmot Furnace Fleece Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 November 7, 2008

I really love this jacket. The fleece is amazingly soft, lightweight, and warm, and the flat stitching is very high quality. The only downside is that it's a little on the short side, but that's simply personal preference. This will make a perfect liner for my winter shell (when it finally gets colder!)

Pacific Outdoor Equipment Hyper Lite Sleeping Pad - Women's

Pacific Outdoor Equipment Hyper Lite Sleeping Pad - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 August 22, 2008

I have used this pad about a dozen times since I received it last May 2008, and I have not been very happy with it. It is no good for anyone that doesn't sleep on their back. I am a side-sleeper and it is extremely uncomfortable because it provides very little support for my hips, which then causes me to thrash around, which then causes me to get no sleep, which then causes me to be grumpy in the morning. I wouldn't recommend it for stomach sleepers either. Good points include the fact that it's very lightweight (only about 17oz) and it has neat colors.

Love these boots

Asolo Stynger GTX Hiking Boot - Women's

Asolo Stynger GTX Hiking Boot - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 August 22, 2008

I purchased these boots last April 2008 right before beginning field work in the mountains of West Virginia... let me just say that they are 99.97% amazing. Not only were they comfortable from the very beginning and required very little break-in time (dude... I never got blisters!), my feet were so stylish that they were the envy of all my crewmates. They have a wonderful firm sole, which makes them great for hiking on various types of terrain. The only reason why I didn't give them 5 stars is because they are not waterproof; walking through tall, wet grass left me with soggy feet pretty much every day. However, they did dry very quickly and at least I began each day with dry feet, even if it only lasted for 30 minutes or so. Even so, I am still planning on buying another pair when these finally wear out. If you're not planning on walking through tall, wet grass, then I highly recommend you buy these!

Great tent

Kelty Grand Mesa 2 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Kelty Grand Mesa 2 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 5 August 22, 2008

I really love this tent. I've been using it for about 4 months now, and I can't stress enough how easy it is to set up. It's been through almost every weather condition except snow, and stands up to everything without leaking. My only complaint is that when using the rain fly the ventilation is not so good, making it pretty warm in the tent. This will probably be a good thing in the coming colder months! Excellent price for a great product.
