I like to run in the mountains a heck of a lot, but lately, I have been hiking a lot more. Perhaps that is why I am getting slower!

GoLite VO24 Backpack - 1500 cu in

October 23, 2008

Check out this link: http://www.backcountry.com/store/GOL0153/GoLite-VO24-Backpack-Womens-1400-cu-in.html It is the same product, but it's made for women (ie better size assortments). I would get the small most definitely. I am 5'4 and I fit into the small very well.

GoLite Speed Pack

GoLite Lite-Speed Pack - 3000 cu in

GoLite Lite-Speed Pack - 3000 cu in

Rating for this product: 5 September 26, 2008

This pack has lots of great features. First, its very light, but feels even lighter has the support you get through the waist belt and the shoulder straps are very comfy and sturdy. Second, when full of gear, the pack remains close to your body. The waist belt also has pockets in them to hold whatever you need - trail food, headlamp, whatever.

If you are looking for a fast pack, the GoLite Speed Pack is a great choice. Though there are lighter packs out there, the 2.7oz pack makes up for it in ease and convenience.

The Snow Peak Titanium Spork is all you need when you are on the trail. It's very light, packs well, and is really the only food utensil you need. The Snowpeak Titanium Spork is definitely worth the money.

SnowPeak Trek 700 Titanium Pot

Snow Peak Trek 700 Titanium Cooker

Snow Peak Trek 700 Titanium Cooker

Rating for this product: 5 September 26, 2008

The Snow Peak Trek 700 Titanium Cooker is light, compact enough to fit in my pack without being too bulky, but large enough to cook what I need (which is mainly 2 cups of water, but I've cooked raman in it before). I also enjoy it because you can fit in a 110 gas can inside of it perfectly. I usually put 2 gas cans in there and use my own aluminum foil lid. The Trek 700 Titanium Cooker is all I need for long backpacking trips.

The Snow Peak Trek Titanium Plate

Snow Peak Trek Titanium Plate

Snow Peak Trek Titanium Plate

Rating for this product: 5 September 26, 2008

The Snow Peak Trek Titanium Plate is what it says - its a very lightweight plate. Sometimes when a long day of hiking comes to an end, and I don't feel like eating out of the bag, I just dump the food on there and go to town. Beats the hell out of paper plates, and it makes for a nice frisbee for an after dinner activity :)

Hydro Photon SteriPEN Adventurer Handheld Ultraviolet Water Purifier w/ Solar Charger

Rating for this product: 5 September 26, 2008

The SteriPEN Adventurer Pen is perfect. Easy to use, lightweight, and easily a third of the size of the other water filters out there. Granted it's the most expensive water filter I've seen, you get what you pay for. Perfect for the lightweight backpacker.

Julbo Instinct Sunglasses

Julbo Instinct Sunglasses - 4 Lens Set

Julbo Instinct Sunglasses - 4 Lens Set

Rating for this product: 5 September 26, 2008

The Julbo Instinct Sunglasses were a good choice for me because of the 4 lens set. The lenses are easy to put in and take out, and come with mirrored lenses, regular lenses, orange lenses, and clear lenses. They are very comfortable, and fit my face well. This is my 2nd pair of Julbos, and I know for a fact that Julbo has great customer service. I ran over my first pair with my car, and they happily replaced them for free. Go Julbo!

Nuun Tablets

Nuun Multi Flavor Nuun Tube - 4 Pack

Nuun Multi Flavor Nuun Tube - 4 Pack

Rating for this product: 5 September 26, 2008

At first I wasn't a fan of Nuun, I gotta be honest. But after a while, I grew attached to them. They are convenient in the tube that they come in, and when hiking, its easy just to drop into a bladder or bottle and go. It beats the hell out of carrying a ziplock bag full of gatorade power.

Love the Clif Bar Minis

Clifbar Clif Bar Mini Variety Pack - 18 Pack

Clifbar Clif Bar Mini Variety Pack - 18 Pack

Rating for this product: 5 September 26, 2008

The Clif Bar Mini Variety Pack is the way to go - as a small guy sometimes I don't want to eat an entire Clif Bar as much as I like them. I usually end up eating half of the bar and losing the other half under my car seat or in the bottom of my pack. I love the texture, they are packed with energy, and the flavors displayed in this variety pack are the best ones they offer in my opinion.

GoLite Pinnacle Pack - 4500 cu in

August 25, 2008

In my opinion, if I were doing the AT, I'd go with the GoLite Odyssey Expedition Pack. You could get away with this pack (heck, one of the GoLite folks did the Great Western loop in Jam 2 pack), but I think the extra nooks and crannies in the Odyssey pack would be worth it.Best of luck!
