Marmot Summerset Softshell Jacket - Women's

Marmot Summerset Softshell Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 April 27, 2010

I too searched high and low for a functional, somewhat tailored looking soft shell. I found it in the Marmot Summerset. I am usually a solid XS in just about any brand of clothing, but I purchased this jacket in a small. It isn't bulky and still has a slim fit whether or not I layer. I'm short (5'2") but I prefer a longer cut jacket, and I found the Summerset to be the perfect length. It doesn't have all the bells and whistle that a lot of similar priced jackets have, but it is pretty water resistant (I live in rainy Southeast Alaska!), and keeps the wind out nicely. Some of the other softshells I tried were very stiff and didn't conform to my body. This jacket is soft (the inside has a brushed, thin fleecy feel), and moves with your body. The hood is also nice as it cinches down around your head well without making you look ridiculous. All in all it was well worth the money to buys something that is going to look good for years.

Mountain Hardwear Hooded Insulated Compressor Jacket - Women's

Mountain Hardwear Hooded Insulated Compressor Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 November 9, 2009

According to Mountain Hardwear's size charts, I'm an XS, which is what I ordered. I'm 5'2", 105 lbs and small in the bust, but the XS jacket fit me tight in the chest and shoulders. The tightness in the chest keeps the front pockets from laying flat, which makes me look completely boob-less. The sleeves are also short on me. There is no way I could layer anything comfortably under this jacket- it's just too tight. Bummer. I really like the grill color (it's a dark charcoal gray), but they don't have it in the next size up. I was leaning towards the Blurr Nitrogen jacket, but bought this one instead. I'll be sending it back and getting the Blurr Nitrogen.
