Mountain Hardwear Talus Pant - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Talus Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 May 28, 2009

Nice all-around hiking pants. I like the material very much, stretchy, easy to vent and dry. Water-resistant and Wind-proof. From hot damp forest to windy freezing cold mountains covered with snow, it all works out very good as the single layer.

However, the reason I have to return is because of the glue on the seam are very easy to get off. In 6 months, after 4-5 washes (follow their washing instruction), there are couple of places where the glues are coming off, which leave a hole in the pant.

Also it is not mosquito bite resistant, as it is pretty thin. So wear something different if insect bite is one of your concern.

Overall excellent combo (bag+pad)

Big Agnes Horse Thief Sleeping Bag: 35 Degree Down

Big Agnes Horse Thief Sleeping Bag: 35 Degree Down

Rating for this product: 4 September 8, 2008

overall, i like this sleeping bag especially with the sleeping pad sleeve.

here is a few thing i have to comment

pro:

1. ultra-light and true temperature rating, i couldn't believe it can stand its 35 degree rating when i first have it on hand. however it proves itself after a trip to Bryce (reported to be 32-35 degree, actually felt colder right before dawn because of the wind, i just need to have an extra layer to keep myself comfortable)

2. sleeping pad pocket to hold matching BA air cone pad, never find myself on the floor, and the pad is warm and comfortable. i can slept on my back, on either side, or even face down with no problem.

con:

1. (minor) manufactor weight rating is a bit off by 1-2oz, maybe it is due to the extra moisture got sucked into bag after normal use, my measurement right after first trip is 1lb 11oz (regular + sack bag), 3lb 2oz (long + long BA air cone sleeping pad, mummy)

2. down leakage, every morning when i woke up, i'd see couple (<5) down feathers poke thru or scatter around my tent, wish the thread count could be higher. (tip: pull the feather back into the bag on the first sight)

3. the girth is a bit too tight, i'm 5'10'' on a little heavy side, and with an extra layer of softshell, it gets air tight on my upper body if i pull the full zip.

4. the pillow bag has no use to me, i have to use my own air pillow and tie it to sleeping pad seperately.

overall, it is a greate bag and pairing it with air cone pad and i'm really enjoying the nights out there.
