ive seen a lot of this type of gear on the applachion trail its been so 17years ago i hiked from springer mountion to unico gap if i ever decide to do this 200+miles of the georgia end of the trail again ill remember to carry a pair of long under were it can get very cold very fast so if your wondering if your packing dead weight that will not help you just contact me on yahoo messenger im gratedrake1@yahoo.com ps ive seen a lot of gear used by rich and poor hikers alike i have the life exerance to help you pack better for your hike and keep in mind your card playing friends are not always the best people to take with you, your buddies may steal your log book and camera & film and other gear cigars and trading them for there pot they hiked with other people most of the time so before you take friends hiking make shure you know them take them on a 3day hike then a week hike before trusting them on a long hike .ps the 4lbs2oz is about the same weight as a walmart tent lol
