Bio:
i live for skiing, I really just started to get into Backcountry this season and i have been well rewarded with bottomless powder shots and the "white room" experience. I have also just started hucking big this season. my record is a 60 footer japan air. it was absolutely awesome, but im going bigger next season! i would really like to get a sponsor for skiing because i am going to take a gap year after highschool and ski pretty much every day. Then its off to alaska to do Firefighter and Paramedic school, oh i am also doing ski patrol this next year. Ill update as time passes!

Jack Thomson's Light but gnarly Alpine Touring Setup
Created May 31, 2010
i have this setup and it is probably the best setup i have ever used. i have done the paradise to camp muir climb on these skis more times than i can count and they are absolutely the lightest going up but the most like regular resort rippin on the way down. this does have a high price tag but it is well worth it.

Suunto Core Altimeter Watch
March 6, 2011
On top of doing alot of backcountry skiing and mountaineering i do ski patrol. I need a watch that has a seconds indicator for taking vitals without having to switch watch functions and pressing buttons on it. does this watch have a second counter on its main time display?

Dynafit Titan TF-X Ski Boot - Men's
January 19, 2011
Keep you alpine setup, but get some alpine trekker adaptors so you can still do limited touring. if you are only doing 20% touring it is not worth it to buy a $2,000 full AT setup unless you have some serious coin just laying around collecting dust. Thats just my 2 cents

K2 Coomback Ski
November 2, 2010
i would go with the 174 cm version. I currently own the 181's with dynafit tlt z12's mounted on them and i am 6'2" and 220 lbs. This setup is perfect for me, so i think you should go with the shorter version since you ar 70 lbs lighter and a couple inches shorter... those are just my thoughts.

Asolo TPS 520 GV Boot - Men's
June 2, 2010
sorry, that is not the crampon i use with this boot, i use the BD contact strap crampon with these boots. on more serious climbs i use the sabertooth with a true mountaineering boot.

Asolo TPS 520 GV Boot - Men's
June 2, 2010
yeah, go with strap on crampons. I really like this boot paired with the Black Diamond Sabertooth pro crampon. stiff enough for waterfall ice, but comfortable enough for 20 hour high altitude mountaineering climbs.

Black Diamond AvaLung II
June 1, 2010
hey so cant i just put this avalung under my touring pack because the air intake is on the front of you and the exhause is at the bottom to the side of you? that is what i have been doing in the past, but please give me some feedback to if this actually works, or if it could present dangerous for me in a burial. Thanks!

DAKINE Pro 2 Backpack - 1600cu in
February 19, 2010
Will the BD deploy 3 shovel fit in this pack's shovel carry pocket? Also is it comfortable to carry skis on this pack when bootpacking? i have used other packs and the skis make me off balance and messes up my back. will that happen with this pack?

is this a good bivy that will protect against the elements when raining and will hold a person and a sleeping bag? Would this be an okay bivy for ultralight weeklong backpacking trips?
