Backcountry.com Nebraska T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Backcountry.com Nebraska T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 June 9, 2011

I was really stoked for this t shirt. I love the goat and am proud to rep the brand - unfortunately this shirt isn't the way to do it. One of the BC chat guys recommended I go with a large, rather than my usual medium, as he said it's a very slim athletic cut (which I usually like, to a degree). As it turned out, this shirt doesn't really have an athletic cut, it just shrinks to almost nothing after being machine washed.

The shirt is no a belly shirt. No thanks.

The cotton is really soft this! This would be a super comfortable shirt, if it actually fit.

a great investment in my future

Black Diamond Telekneesis Kneepad

Black Diamond Telekneesis Kneepad

Rating for this product: 5 December 20, 2010

Love these. I've only used them one day, but they were awesome. After a season of free heel skiing and feeling shrapnel fly up and hit my knees, and having cold knees when kneeling in the snow, and hitting my knees on cliffsides when hiking, or any other such thing, I absolutely love my kneepads and can't believe what I've been missing out on for so long. My knees feel comfortable and secure with these on, and I don't know if I'll be able to ski without them again.

They're cheap enough too! And they'll save your knees for sure. Definitely a worthwhile 40 bucks.

Rossignol Phantom Pro RC112 Ski

December 1, 2010

I have a feeling the Rossi's are still pretty badass on the piste. With a WC construction (wood, metal, vertical sidewalls) and a little bit of sidecut, they'll make pretty sweet Super G turns. I'm assuming the BD's are quite a bit lighter and probably ski pretty different from these...

awesome bibs

Stoic Bombshell Bib - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 14, 2010

I got a pair of last season's bibs in the tangerine color (they had white zippers last year, and IMO, looked much better than with this year's black zippers) and they were great for the little time I used them in South America this past Southern winter. The two pickets on the bib are great. I generally used one of those two pockets for my beacon, instead of wearing the harness that comes with it — much more streamlined and less bulky than using the beacon harness! I also tried putting a small digital camera in one of those pockets, and my sweat went right through into the pocket, so I do not recommend using those pockets for an iPod or digi cam, or anything like that. They're not quite as windproof as I would like — on the coldest and windiest of days, the wind can definitely be felt through them, but with some nice insulation underneath, it's no big deal.As far as durability goes...we'll see. In just two weeks my edges did some work on the cuffs, but nothing that a bit of the silver tape can't fix.And finally, style. I love the look, and the compliments didn't stop coming on.I'm totally stoked on stoic!(Orange pants in photo or the stoics)

Oh, and I liked them enough to order another pair in black for this season! Thumbs up

good poles

Black Diamond Pure Carbon Ski Pole

Black Diamond Pure Carbon Ski Pole

Rating for this product: 5 August 8, 2010

These poles have been a great addition to my arsenal of ski gear. The grips on the shaft have proven very handy when traversing, skinning, and hiking. This is my first pair of adjustable poles and having the ability to choose the right length depending on the conditions and depth of snow has been great. These poles are light and easy to adjust. Highly recommended.

Greatest shorts!

prAna Mojo Short - Men's

prAna Mojo Short - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 July 27, 2010

Today is Tuesday. I bought these shorts on Saturday. I have worn these shorts every day since I bought them. They are the greatest. They are super lightweight and feel great. The low profile elastic waistband is awesome - I have been missing out all these years, with my typical cotton shorts and thick belts with (somewhat) heavy buckles. The pockets on these are mesh and deep, and hold a hell of a lot of stuff.

So far, I have walked around NYC on a 98º 90% humidity day, in relative comfort (as comfortable as one can be on such a day.) They have been paired with the Lululemon boxer brief, which is a great product, as well as the smartwool lightweight boxer - also great. Next, I bouldered in them, and they are much better than your run of the mill athletic shorts, thanks to the gusset crotch. Finally, I practiced Yoga wearing these shorts, and again, the gusset crotch proved invaluable to me.

I definitely plan to purchase more pairs of these shorts.

My only gripe, is the black color seems to really pick up and show all sorts of lint.

Dynastar Legend Sultan 85 Ski

March 29, 2010

If anyone else has the same question, I will answer my own.

I did end up getting a pair of the Sultan 85's and mounted them with Hammerheads, and they are an awesome combo. Really versatile and love to carve some GS turns.

the best underwear, ever.

SmartWool Lightweight Boxer - Men's

SmartWool Lightweight Boxer - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 29, 2010

First, let it be known that I am a huge merino fan. Now, onto the review:These are by far the best pair of boxers I have ever purchased. Though the price is pretty steep compared to your standard cotton boxer, and even more expensive than most other "technical" underwear offerings, these are worth their weight in gold. Like another reviewer said, they can be worn for days on end and still feel fresh, with no stink. The wool stays dry and keeps you cool, or warm, and comfortable. I wear these boxers every day, for all activities. Awesome to wear just these under ski pants on a spring day, with shorts in the summer, or with cords in the winter, and every single night. If someone told me these are the only boxers I could wear for the rest of my life, I would be one happy camper...

great backpack for day trips into the backcountry

Osprey Packs Switch 26 Pack - 1500-1700cu in

Osprey Packs Switch 26 Pack - 1500-1700cu in

Rating for this product: 5 September 19, 2009

I just got back from a trip to Argentina and this pack was great! The back panel access was awesome and I was able to stuff a lot of gear for a day in the backcountry in this pack.

In the back panel I kept a down vest, extra pair (or two) of gloves, and my lunch. In the main compartment I had my shovel, beacon, and cat tracks. The waist pockets were awesome for granola bars, sun screen, and chap stick.

This pack is very comfortable and the waist band is nicely padded (if you've used the Switch 16, this is loads better, so you'll know what I mean...)

The ski carry works like it should and the top helmet pocket is great (which I actually used for extra goggles, a hat, and other small items).

My only complaint is the sleeve that the tube for the camelbak bladder goes through, is on the right shoulder and being left handed, I prefer is on the left side. This isn't a huge deal, and I was able to get used to having it on the right pretty quickly, but it's not ideal for me.
