Black Diamond Quadrant Alpine Touring Boot - Men's
January 23, 2011
I have the Primes and they are only slightly less supportive to these guys. Unfortunately, they arent too supportive for groomers. You might want to consider touring in regular downhill boots. I know a couple guys do it and they dont complain much.

If you want a waterproof pack, buy any pack you want then add a dry bag inside. Dont be limited by and blow a bunch of money on the few "waterproof" packs.

Arc'teryx Alpha LT Jacket - Men's
March 11, 2010
DONT LISTEN TO THESE FOOLS.
I'm 6'3 and 165 and I wear a medium. It fits two layers (base + softshell) underneath and if need be also a light syn insulation layer. You want the jacket to be as SMALL as possible without feeling restricted. If the jacket is too large, the pit zips will be a pain to open and close.

Black Diamond Sabretooth Clip Crampons
February 5, 2010
The number of points is not really indicative of much. I think the MOST technical crampons are the bolt on ones and they have around 8 points. I use these for general mountaineering, and they're fine, but a little overkill. You'll probably be better off with something like the Contact Strap unless you're doing a lot of front pointing on vertical stuff.

Arc'teryx Alpha SV Jacket - Men's

eVent and Gore-Tex are actually the same polymer. Basically, expanded poly tetra fluoride. -(CF4)- This polymer is not air permeable at all. (How would it be wind proof, if it was air permeable?) By itself, the material is very breathable, it allows, H20 to pass though, but only in gaseous form. The problem with the polymer is that it is easily clogged by salts form your sweat. Gore solved the problem 30 years ago by coating the inside with PU (poly urethane) which significantly reduces the MVTR. eVent recently solved the problem in another fashion which doesnt reduce the MVTR. And thus it is more breathable. I'm guessing that's why it needs to be washed more.
Durability only comes from the outside layer of woven nylon. This can be seen as the N rating, 580N, 380 N, etc. (Cordura is 1000N).
Unfortunately, I have no experience with eVent. Does anyone know, can you run in an eVent shell?

What is the durability of the inner leg section. Is is the same or weaker than 1000 D cordura? How much weaker/stronger?

Arc'teryx Sentry Jacket - Men's
November 11, 2009
Well, it depends on what you are doing. No waterproof fabric will breath enough to let all the moisture out when you are slogging up hill, but for most situations, Gore Tex works well.

I would also like to reiterate that Arcteryx is in a league of its own. No one compares to them in anyway. Its unreal. There are many good reasons their products cost so much.

Try the Arcteryx Silo 30. It has a sweet Ski carry system. My skis feel so light while on it.

Marmot Helium Sleeping Bag: 15 Degree Down
October 22, 2009
No sleeping bags are seam sealed. It would just be far too expensive. I have a bag with waterproof/breathable fabric that isn't seam taped. It works nicely. Feathered Friends is a company in Seattle that is probably the most experienced with down and they dont seam tape their waterproof bags or down coats. I asked them about it and they said it wasn't needed.

Get the continuous baffle! Its far warmer for little more weight. Basically there is a bit of mesh between each section rather than being sown though.

MSR Hydromedary Hydration Bag
July 28, 2009
You can get in back in, but its tricky. Cut the outer house about an inch lower than the liner. Make a slit in the liner and then push the head into the tube holding the liner with your fingers. Then cut the rest of the liner off. Again, its hard, but it works.

MSR Reactor Stove
July 4, 2009
This pot is probably overkill for what you want. This pot is designed to ONLY boil water which limits your options. If you want a more versatile system check out something else.
If you want ease of use, check out canister stoves such as the MSR WindPro or Pocket rocket.
If you want something cheaper in the long term, get a liquid fuel stove such as the Wisperlite.
If you want to cook gourmet meals in the back country and need to regulate heat get the Dragonfly.
Good Luck
