Stomping Grounds:
The Elk Mountains of Colorado, Aspen -
Bio:
I was born and raised in Aspen CO and as a gromit I spent most of my time outdoors. My parents didn't believe in television so passing the time was up to my imagination. Things really haven't changed too much since I was little due to the fact that I am still outside most of the time. Whether it is fly fishing or kayaking in the summer, bow hunting or mountain biking in the fall or skiing in the winter, it isn't just the activities that are my passion, but the amazing mountains and environment as well.
I have been skiing since I was just about two but my skiing background is in alpine racing. This was very important because it really taught me how to ski. Although I loved chasing gates for a while, I didn't truly find my passion for skiing until I stepped into the world of freeriding, and unlocked the heel. The freedom that it offered and the possibility to make the mountain into your own canvas was what really caught my attention and is the main aspect that continues to drive me. A high speed tele turn in buttery pow is a feeling that everyone should experience.
So as a 23 year old telemarker addicted to the big mountains and all they have to offer, I can't wait to see where this crazy adventure takes me next. Let the snow fly.

Niseko Night Skiing
Scott Alias Limited Edition Goggles
March 16, 2009
I used the Alias with the red Chrome lense for some epic night skiing sessions in Japan and it was awesome. There was plenty of visibility to work with. Almost prefer it over a clear lense.

Black Diamond Megawatt Ski
September 30, 2009
I would say go with the bigger size. I am pretty much the same size as you and have skied the 188 and because of the long rocker and the shorter base contact they actually ski shorter than their printed size. Be ready to go fast and get buttery with those turns.

Black Diamond Icon Headlamp
September 30, 2009
I use this light for everything when it comes to finding my way in the backcountry at night. I recently used it to track an elk that i shot with my bow and without it's long lasting batteries and extra bright setting it would have been much harder to find my elk luckily it pulled through. I would recommend it with the rechargable battery pack for an added boost.

Black Diamond Telekneesis Kneepad
September 30, 2009
These knee pads don't restrict movement at all. If you tighten the bottom strap just enough and leave the top strap just tight enough to hold them in place, after your first run you won't even notice they are there. They also keep your knees nice and warm and limber.

Black Diamond Outlaw with Avalung Pack - 1831-1939cu in
September 30, 2009
This pack should fit everything you mentioned just fine, especially if you hook the helmet on the outside. On the other hand, the anarchist cinches down nicely when you have less gear and also has that extra space when you need more stuff. The helmet in this case would fit just fine inside. The anarchist also rides really well on the back no matter how much gear you have styuffed inside.

Black Diamond Zealot Ski
September 30, 2009
The new Zealots are fat stiff and designed for control at high speeds in pow and variable snow. They are definitely stiffer than the verdicts but if you want to take your skiing to the next level give them a shot. They definitely rip!

Black Diamond Justice Ski
September 29, 2009
The verdict is definitely a stiff ski. The Justice is played down a bit and gives you a bit more play and doesn't ski you. It is lighter than the verdict but fatter as well. Definitely a great ski. It might not be as all condition focused as the verdict but in powder conditions it takes the cake for sure.

Black Diamond O1 Telemark Ski Binding
June 30, 2009
They are definitely compatible with the T2s. This binding is a great choice and you are gonna be stoked when you get out on them. They are a little heavier than some tele bindings but the difference is easily made up in performance, both climbing and skiing. As for a ski I would recommend the BD Joule. It is a great all mountain as well as backcountry ski. Have fun

Black Diamond Bandit with Avalung Winter Pack - 690cu in
June 30, 2009
The pack should work fine. It is a little small for my liking but for a 12 year old i would imagine that it would be great. It has ample adjustability and should tighten up just fine for the kid.

Backcountry Access Tracker DTS Beacon
June 30, 2009
I would recommend the tracker system. It seems that in rescue situations in the mountains I would always choose simplicity and the tracker is quite simple to use. You don't want to be unsure in the slightest bit how to use your beacon. The tracker is easy to figure out and with a bit of practice you can have it dialed

Black Diamond Covert with Avalung Winter Pack - 1343-1953 cu in
June 30, 2009
I would recommend the 32 L. The pack cinches down nicely when you don't have as much gear and there will always be those days when you wish you had a bit more room. The 22 is pretty small and doesn't ride quite as well. Another option is the smaller of the Anarchists. This pack fits the best out of both models and also cinches down pretty small.

Black Diamond Covert with Avalung Winter Pack - 1343-1953 cu in
June 30, 2009
In the field tests for the Avalung pack the buried subject got bored after about forty minutes and they dug him out. He If you are burried in a real avalanche though the situation is likely to be a lot different. I guess if you are buried without any bodily trauma with the avalung in your mouth then you could probably last a while but every situation is different. It is best not to fully rely on any piece of avy gear and just play it as safe as possible. But on the other hand It has saved lives .

Cloudveil Koven Jacket - Men's
June 30, 2009
If you really need to secure the hood you can tie the pull cord on the back of the hood to the pull cord located right behind your neck. It is kind of a ghetto rig but it works. If you are looking for a jacket that can be switched i'd recommend something that has a removable hood. I usually just tighten the pull cords so the hood doesn't flop around.

Cloudveil Down Patrol Jacket - Men's
June 30, 2009
Never had a problem with down coming out until I accidentally put it on the still hot stove in our camper in AK. Other than that this Down jacket is my favorite. It is extremely warm but still has solid breathability. I really really like it.

Black Diamond O1 Telemark Ski Binding DO NO TUSE
March 25, 2009
Yes the mounting base, or hole pattern is the same for the 01's and the 02's. I recently took a pair of 02's off a pair of skis and replaced them with the o1's. Very simple.
