Super!

Backcountry.com Cocona No-Show Sock - 4 Pack

Backcountry.com Cocona No-Show Sock - 4 Pack

Rating for this product: 5 November 5, 2009

I have had a pair of the ankle high cocona socks for a couple of years. The material performs really well...used for mtb and trail running. I've yet to wear through a pair through regular use and washing/drying. Super durable. A super solid alternative to merino wool. Bring back the ankle high and people won't have the slippage issue.

Super Versatile

Patagonia Houdini Full-Zip Jacket - Men's

Patagonia Houdini Full-Zip Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 5, 2009

I've had this jack for three years now. Its lightweight material is super versatile...I use it for backcountry skiing in the winter, wearing it over a mid-weight base layer for ascents even in super cold temps then stash in the pack for the descent. Also, Fall mtb rides it's easy to stash in jersey pocket if I get too warm. Same for trail running...if I get too warm I can wrap it around my waist and not even notice it. The fit is a bit baggy but I don't think Patagonia could make it any more form fitted because of the material they use. Anyway, it's a keeper.

Gregory Z 55 Backpack - 3050-3660cu in

October 1, 2009

Jimmy, It's not designed as a ski-specific pack, but you can attach skis to the outside compression straps and the shovel blade/handle/probe can go into the space between the outer pocket and the main pack body. One of Gregory's reps used this on a week-long ski tour in the Canadian Rockies.

Scarpa Mustang GTX Backpacking Boot - Men's

December 22, 2008

The RB last is a special last designed to provide a flowing walking action for walkers and ramblers. Designed specifically for the British foot. High volume. The Mustang has SCARPA's BX last, based on a foot of average width, suitable for 90% of people. Tapered at the back in the heel area. Medium instep and ankle area, shaped for good anatomical fit. Suitable for the average foot with a normal plantar arch and contained ankle bone hollow. So, Mustang will be a slimmer, less volume last.

The waste extends down to around the middle of the butt for me. A little short compared to some others but still plenty of coverage.

Scarpa Triolet GTX Mountaineering Boot - Men's

December 18, 2008

Triolet is more of a technical mountaineering boot for approaching and climbing on snow, rock or ice once you’re in the high country. The Escape is more of an all-around boot that’ll cover the bases from backpacking to light mountaineering or glacier travel. It’ll climb, but the Triolet is a lot more technical for climbing. If you like the Triolet, also check out the Charmoz, which is the same boot but built with lighter weight materials.

Scarpa Typhoon Alpine Touring Boot

December 18, 2008

Based on what I heard from people that have tried both boots, the Typhoon is a tiny bit stiffer than the Tornado. Right. Typhoon’s a little stiffer due to the upper cuff construction. On the Typhoon, it’s a more rigid upper cuff with ribs for added stiffness, and more of an alpine boot-like construction, with both buckles fully on the upper cuff, whereas the Tornado gives more of a nod to ski touring with the lower buckle on the upper cuff running across the instep (SCARPA’s heel retention strap), which helps keep the heel in the heel pocket when touring. Both are big boots that will ski in bounds and drive big skis, bit the Typhoon is more build with a nod to downhill features and the Tornado with a nod toward touring

Gregory Jade 50 Backpack - Women's - 2750-3350cu in

November 3, 2008

No. The pack comes in 3 different sizes. You should have your torso measured to figure out which one will fit. Here's a primer on how to do that: http://tinyurl.com/65e6me

Scarpa T2 Lady Telemark Ski Boot - Women's

October 20, 2008

Need a little more info...terrain and skis/bindings set up, but it sounds like the T2 is appropriate. Particularly with heavy packs, you want the extra support. Super comfy, particularly with moldable liners.
