Chaco ZX/2 Unaweep Sandal - Backcountry.com Exclusive - Women's

August 4, 2009

hey, it looks like a pretty even split of people large vs small.

I'd say your foot width should decide it. I am a 6.5 but am a bit wider at the toe joint- so, the 7 is PERFECT. I'd say size up because they're so adjustable, BUT, If you have really narrow feet- than size down. Enjoy! they're awesome shoes!!

Columbia Faster and Lighter Shell - Women's

Columbia Faster and Lighter Shell - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 March 5, 2009

I'm so excited to rave about this jacket! Here's a run down: PORTABILITY: Its ridiculously light (lightest jacket I've ever felt actually) and it folds/rolls up into about a large hand-sized ball! WATERPROOF? Ha! I ran the sleeve under the sink for about a minute and the water just ran off. FABRIC: nice, comfortable, and even a bit stretchy (not plastic feeling like some shells). FIT: I'm a small girl (5'3") but I have really broad shoulders- which is always a concern with jackets- The M instead of S fits great. It's long enough to cover down to my upper/mid hip. Also, when I raise my arms up the jacket body doesn't lift at all which is awesome! I would CAUTION ladies with broad shoulders, long arms, or extra-long torsos to size up. COLOR: (cinder) Its a really nice/flattering color. I would describe it as a dark cherry/burgundy/red-brown. :)

BOTTOM LINE: I travel a lot (Scottish downpour... here I come) and also spend a lot of time backpacking where rainstorms are sudden and intense. This is going to be a staple on EVERY trip because its super portable, light, and effective!!!!

what is the difference between the adventurer (this product) and the classic SteriPen? I've heard "portability" as an answer but could you be more specific (size, wieght, durability, etc differences)? Thanks!

freestyle funk and fun... is right on

Never Summer Evo-R Rocker/Camber Snowboard

Never Summer Evo-R Rocker/Camber Snowboard

Rating for this product: 5 November 8, 2008

I. love. this. board. period. Even though its a "guys" board, girls can kill it too!
I've been riding for 8 years now, and have been on a lot of boards. This one takes it! This board is a park/pipe super-star, in fact, the first time I rode the Evo was in a Jibfest and I was hooked. I was pretty worried about how it would perform in other areas on the mountain- but ultimately those fears were pointless. I'm used to riding the small, ice/slush, only-good-for-the-park type mountains... so imagine my stoke when i take it to Big Sky Country Montana and drop into some nice backcountry powdery bowls or carve high-speed turns down the steeps, and it STILL PERFORMS! The board is super flexy but its still nice and stable at high speeds, and although its a little extra work, it still handles big mountain and powder just fine.

I've got it set up with some Team Ride bindings (ducked out to take advantage of the twin tip), on a 148 and its just a super responsive, flexy, poppy, fun board. As far as durability is concerned, this boards taken some BEATINGS haha, but its still rock solid after 3+ years (i have an earlier model) unlike some other boards *cough Burton* which have fallen completely apart after a year of riding. The Never Summer company sells great quality products, my next board will be a Never Summer...
BOTTOM LINE: Perfect for Int/Advanced rider looking to add some style to his/her bag of tricks- THIS IS IT. If you wish you could have endless winter, and wouldn't mind spending a lot of that time in the park or pipe having a super responsive board that performs on command, throws down some freestyle funk, and is just insanely fun to ride and then some.... GET THE EVO!!! and go on with your bad self... :)

Eureka Spitfire Tent 1-Person 3-Season

October 26, 2008

this question is kind of ridiculous... so anyone who's had experience with this tent could answer.I do a lot of solo, light weight backpacking trips- so i really want to invest in a single, but i also go backpacking with one of my girlfriends a lot, so my question is this:If there were 2 smaller girls who didn't mind close quarters, who wanted to sleep in the spitfire, would they fit? :)

Professional Outdoor Guide- bad product

MSR HyperFlow Microfilter

MSR HyperFlow Microfilter

Rating for this product: 2 October 19, 2008

I've been an Outdoor Educator/Guide for several years, and I recently brought a group of 12 to the High Sierras and used this pump by recommendation.
We were pumping mostly from sources that were SO CLEAN, it was tempting not to just fill up my Nalgene and be done with it--- especially after struggling with this pump.
At first it blew my mind how quickly the pump worked for moving mass quantities of water. A+ there.
Then, although we back-flushed frequently, the pump became painfully slow and difficult to use. By DAY 3 into our 15 day trip it was completely worthless! At that point, my fellow guides and I worked for about 2 hours!!! on this thing trying to salvage it. NOPE. Luckily, I believe that moving parts have a propensity for failure in the backcountry haha, and always back up my water sanitation system with time-tested Iodine. Thank god, because our trip would've been over.

BOTTOM LINE:
I think that for a SINGLE person pump, for SHORTER trips- where mass amounts (40-50 litres per day) of water are NOT expected: this is a fantastic pump! It's fast, light, & packs small. Home maintenance/cleaning may be extensive, but outside you'll notice a big difference from other pumps. (B+)

HOWEVER, For any realistic expedition (ie, lots of water needed and frequent use), this Pump needs to go back to the design table stat! because it was really and truly terrible. Even back-flushing every 8-10 litres (as per instructions), it couldn't handle the quantities we were dealing with. Epic FAILURE.

Hydro Photon SteriPEN Classic Handheld Water Purifier

October 18, 2008

all of my nalgene's are a full litre... since this is designed to work on 16 oz will it still work on double that amount each time? I guess I'm asking, is it possible to do 32 ounces at once?
