Black Diamond Orbit Lantern

Black Diamond Orbit Lantern

Rating for this product: 5 March 1, 2012

This is a great all around light. Because of the frosted globe, the light isn't blinding but it is bright enough to do pretty much everything around camp. I find it's best suited for playing cards around a makeshift table at night or reading in the tent. I would definitely recommend buying the rechargeable battery kit though to save on batteries.

Katadyn Pocket Water Microfilter

Katadyn Pocket Water Microfilter

Rating for this product: 5 February 15, 2012

This thing is definitely not for the faint of heart. It is bomb proof and lasts forever. I have never had a bad experience with water that I have filtered from this. The ceramic filter cleans VERY easily (literally just twist the top off, slide it out, and wipe it off). Add to the construction a lifetime warranty and you've got yourself a filter you just can't pass up. I won't ever buy another one because I wont have to. Great product.

The old Burton disks will fit in the Union baseplates just fine. However if you want the Union disks, the M6 adapter plates do not come standard with the purchase of Union bindings. You can pick them up at your local shop or REI. I haven't seen them here on BC.

Ride Admiral Jacket - Men's

Ride Admiral Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 February 7, 2012

This is a solid jacket, but none of the features have wowed me while I've used it. Even though it has a 20/15 rating, the sleeves started to soak through toward the end of the season, even after refreshing the DWR. Granted it was put through quite a bit, but I don't think that it should be absorbing water after one season. A solid jacket, but not my jacket of choice.

Patagonia Down Sweater - Girls'

Patagonia Down Sweater - Girls'

Rating for this product: 5 February 7, 2012

I bought this for my daughter last year and it has been her go to jackets on chilly summer nights and all her winter adventures. The jacket is extremely light and packs down to tje size of a softball. So moms you can stuff it in your purse on your way to the park without any problem and be prepared when your little one gives in and complains she's cold. It will keep her warm to the 20s as a stand alone. All in all this is a great jacket.

Rating for this product: 5 February 7, 2012

I've had this jacket for over a year now and it has been great. All around best 3 season jacket/hoodie and a wonderful midlayer once the mercury drops. The inner chest pocket is great for keys, wallet, etc. I literally wear it almost every day and it still looks brand new minus a little discoloring on the zipper pull. If this thing ever wears out I will definitely be buying another.

Jones Snowboards The Flagship Snowboard

Jones Snowboards The Flagship Snowboard

Rating for this product: 5 January 24, 2012

In all my years of snowboarding I have searched for the perfect all around board and have finally found it. I have ridden it in all conditions (packed, fresh, and deep) and it hasn't let me down yet. The magnetraction on the board is great in icy conditions and the shape allows for fun all over the mountain. I am very impressed with how it handles through the crud. On other boards I have ridden it gets to be a pretty bumpy ride, but this board cut through them like butter. It was kind of weird, but I'm not complaining at all. The stance is set back just a bit so riding switch isn't like riding a twin, but it is still very doable. All around, I would say this is the board to get if you are looking for the best.

Burton AK Yeti Mitten - Men's

Burton AK Yeti Mitten - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 January 12, 2012

I bought these early on this season and have been able to try them out on a few outings. My first impressions before putting them to the test was that this was a good mitt, but the leather was not the quality that you pay for. At this price point, it should be a much higher quality grain IMO. They have held up but are starting to show signs of wear after half a season. I would also complain that they aren't as warm as the Oven Mitt. I find that I really need glove inserts to stay warm. And, it may just be my hands, but I think the thumb on the gloves is a little short. Overall they are a good mitt, but not at the price offered.

Rating for this product: 4 January 12, 2012

Be prepared, right? I love this belt for its style but also for fucntion. Gone are the days of desperately looking for a screw driver or bottle opener while on the mountain. I wouldn't recommend this as a fix-all, but it does give a little peace of mind when a buckle or strap comes loose miles away from anything. The leather is very durable and wont disappoint. Get one and be happy.

Union Force Snowboard Binding

Union Force Snowboard Binding

Rating for this product: 4 January 12, 2012

This is a solid binding. I have had a few pairs over the years and really don't have anything to complain about. They can take a beating and will show signs of wear, but they will stay functionally sound. I have never had issues with the baseplates, just a little wear and tear on the straps and buckles. Burton AK 2L LZ Gore-Tex Down Jacket - Men's

Burton AK 2L LZ Gore-Tex Down Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 11, 2012

Even though this isn't an 800 fill down jacket, I think 600 works just fine. I have been in -10*F so far with this in nothing more than a long sleeve base layer underneath and was just fine. This is a simple jacket, just meant to keep you warm when it's cold, steep, and deep, and it does just that. The reason it's not 5 stars is because the material it's made from seems to tear more easily than it should. I had a quick brush with a branch through some trees that left a little rip on my sleeve. Other than that, it's been a great jacket.

Black Diamond Guide Lobster Mitten

Black Diamond Guide Lobster Mitten

Rating for this product: 5 January 11, 2012

I work at a local university on a film crew and initially bought these for the football season (running a camera down on the field can get pretty cold). I treated them with nikwax and went to work. A season later and now having used them for rock climbing and snowboarding, I can't complain a bit about them. They are definitely waterproof and the warmest lobsters I have worn. If for any reason you are thinking about getting these, just do it and you won't regret it. Can you complain about the dexterity of a glove and the warmth of a mitten? Didn't think so.

DAKINE Heli Pro 20L Backpack - 1200cu in

Rating for this product: 4 January 11, 2012

Heli yes, backcountry, no. While this is great for day trips either in bounds or in the chopper, I wouldn't recommend it for anything longer than that. There just isn't enough space. That being said, this is an amazing pack. Dakine definitely thinks their gear out when they make it and this is no exception. The pocket placement and ski/snowboard carry is great and the hydration sleeve hides away the bevs until you need them. I love also Dakine because of their warranty and exceptional construction. Get this pack; you won't be disappointed.

Bossy Bossy

Rome 390 Boss Snowboard Binding

Rome 390 Boss Snowboard Binding

Rating for this product: 4 January 11, 2012

I have ridden these for an entire season now and have had some good experiences with this binding. The ankle strap is VERY plush and never digs in too deeply at contact points. The toes strap needs a little bit of work as it tends to slide off without warning. This isn't crucial, but a little disconcerting for some. The paint has started to chip off a bit but then again, I'm not the nicest on my gear. The asym highback is nice in that you don't have to tweak it so that it actually fits the slant of your legs while riding. I didn't really notice a big difference in the V-pad from other bindings as far as vibration reduction but it is nice to not worry about scratching your board with your bindings. All in all, I would recommend this as a solid, all mountain binding.

Rome Targa Snowboard Binding

Rome Targa Snowboard Binding

Rating for this product: 5 January 11, 2012

This is the shield in my quiver, one of the most important weapons in the arsenal. Honestly, these are the most comfortable, best performing binders I have owned. The tweakability is limitless and the shape of the highbacks ensures no calf fatigue and immediate response. Also, one of the biggest selling points for me is the Can't system that provides different angles for your feet to rest at while you are riding. I experience back pain/fatigue when using flat bindings but the way these align my feet, knees, hips, and back, this problem is drastically reduced. All in all, this is a great binding.

Burton Fish Snowboard

Burton Fish Snowboard

Rating for this product: 4 January 11, 2012

This is a great board for when the deep stuff requires a snorkel. I have used it 10+ times and haven't been let down yet. The nose stays up even when it's chest deep and on groomers it turns pretty well. Of course you sacrifice a bit of maneuverability with the swallow tail but it is worth it. If you are looking for the best in-bounds powder board, this is your guy.

686 Mannual Source Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 June 29, 2011

This jacket does alright for the price. If you are just starting out and need something to keep the cold out, this may be the jacket for you. The breathability isn't bad, but there are much better jackets out there. The moisture definitely doesn't get in, but it doesn't get out either. Just make sure to keep the underarm vents open if you start to overheat. Again, it's a great starter jacket; just not the one for me.

Burton Custom EST Snowboard Binding

Burton Custom EST Snowboard Binding

Rating for this product: 3 April 20, 2011

I was kind of disappointed in these bindings. I teamed them with a Malolo for some great Utah powder days and they let me down. They are definitely not the quality of say a Cartel or Malavita binding and left me wanting. Granted the flex is very soft on these and didn't give me the response I needed for powder but even on groomers I didn't feel like they performed how they should have. If you just want them to strap your foot on to a board, that is fine. But, if you want performance, I would suggest going with either another brand at the same price point or moving up to a higher quality Burton binding.

Great ride

Burton Malavita EST Snowboard Binding

Burton Malavita EST Snowboard Binding

Rating for this product: 4 April 20, 2011

I teamed these with the Custom X and they work great together. The most notable difference in the design of the Malavita compared to other bindings is the shape of the strap. With the tapered strap it is easier to transfer the energy from your boots to the bindings and then to the board which results in easier manuals and quicker response. Essentially, you get to be lazier with this binding. The highback is shaped well and follows the natural riding position which also makes for a more enjoyable ride. After a full season of riding, they barely look used, which says quite a bit about durability. All in all, this is a great binding.

O'Neill Jones 3L Experience Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 8, 2011

But this jacket is awesome. The styling and thought that went in to this jacket are very unique. I couldn't figure out the pocket schemes and all the vents because I wasn't used to having a jacket specific to backcountry riding. The chest pockets are HUGE which means that you can easily get into them with gloves on. Even though it isn't Gore-tex brand, it has kept me bone dry after many days of deep powder riding at Snowbird. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a jacket that is different but very functional, I mean it was created by Jeremy himself.

October 7, 2010

That all depends on how you ride. Seeing as how this is an advanced freestyle board, you may want to try something a little stiffer and more responsive. You could try the Burton Cartel, Rome 390, or the Union Force binding, just to name a few.

Marmot Col MemBrain Sleeping Bag: -20 Degree Down

Marmot Col MemBrain Sleeping Bag: -20 Degree Down

Rating for this product: 5 August 19, 2010

I have camped in almost every condition with this bag and absolutely love it. The only complaint I have is that it can get too warm! A quick unzip though and life is good again. This bag is coated with Marmot's version of Gore-tex (MemBrain) and it keeps all external moisture out of the bag. I can easily pack it down into a size L Sea to Summit eVent compression dry sack. If you are wanting a bombproof bag that wont let you get cold, consider this one. It does have a steeper price tag but is worth every penny.

Voile Split Kit (DIY)

August 19, 2010

As a general rule of thumb, a stiffer board will be more effective in powdery conditions. If your board is park/jib specific, you might consider using a different one as a split board. But, if you have no other use for the board and it will just be collecting dust sitting in the back of your closet anyway, what will it hurt to try? It might work for you and will definitely be cheaper than buying a whole new board.

Oakley Stockholm Goggle - Women's

August 16, 2010

It really depends on the weather and the time of day you will be skiing. If it is bright and sunny you will want a lens that blocks out light. If you are skiing at night or in low light conditions you will need one that lets more light in. If you are really worried about the lenses, get a few different ones just to be safe.

Smith I/O Interchangeable Optics Spherical Series Goggles

Smith I/O Interchangeable Optics Spherical Series Goggles

Rating for this product: 5 August 16, 2010

I absolutely love these goggles. I have a few of these (one for riding and one for backup) and have never had an issue. They breathe wonderfully and never fog up. What I like most is how easily the lenses change out. With the flip of the switches on the top you can pop out and replace the lens with whatever kind you need for the type of day it is. I would definitely recommend these to anyone looking for a top quality goggle with high functionality.

Burton Gig Bag - 09/10

August 10, 2010

Not in this bag because space is pretty limited. If you get something with a little more headroom then that would be fine. But, if you want this bag, I would go with the 166.

Sea To Summit eVent Compression Dry Sack

August 6, 2010

I would recommend the medium or even a large. If you end up with extra space you can just roll it down or stuff a few shirts in the top before compressing it just to ensure you have dry clothes for your trip.

Sea To Summit eVent Compression Dry Sack

Is that rolled or compressed? Because it probably wouldn't fit in to a large if that is the compressed size. Go with an XL.

Sea To Summit eVent Compression Dry Sack

August 6, 2010

I have a large that I had to buy to stuff my Marmot -20 down bag in. Granted it is a huge sleeping bag, but even though it is completely down, it would only barely fit into a large. If I would have spent 10+ minutes stuffing it, I could fit it into a medium, but I just use the compression straps and that works great for me.

Sea To Summit eVent Compression Dry Sack

Sea To Summit eVent Compression Dry Sack

Rating for this product: 5 August 6, 2010

I absolutely love this bag. I have managed to pack my down sleeping bag into it and when I go anywhere I don't have to worry about my stuff getting wet. Because it is a stuff sack and the air escapes out the bottom and doesn't come back in once the contents are compressed, it saves a ton on space. Just for the peace of mind, grab a few of these and never deal with wet gear again!

Smith I/O Interchangeable Optics Spherical Series Goggles

August 6, 2010

These actually fit pretty well. The I/O goggles are designed to fit seamlessly with the line of helmets that Smith produces (namely the Holt or the Hustle). But, if you have a Trace helmet, you shouldn't have any problems with product integration.

Yes, a 180lb man weighs the same amount as a 180lb woman. The main difference between the men's and women's version of these bindings is the colorway and the sizing.

DAKINE Heli Pro Backpack - Women's - 1100cu in

August 6, 2010

Who is telling you that you can't? You most certainly can! It holds books and pens and pretty much whatever else you put in it. The straps were specially designed for your shoulders and it even includes a few spots for water bottles or hydration bladders. The front pockets have stuff for pens, erasers, fruit roll ups, etc. Don't let people tell you how to carry your school stuff. Buy this! :)
