Miracle Merino

Icebreaker Solo Superfine140 Shirt - Long Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 24, 2008

Nature does it best. Merino Wool is amazing: soft, warm, breathable, dries quickly, insulates when wet, wicks, what doesn't it do? And I've owned merino from a few different brands, and of them all, Icebreaker's been the best so far. This shirt is super lightweight, soft, and comfortable. I used it as a second layer (over icebreakers bodyfit 200, also awesome) and it was amazing. Between the two layers and a lightly insulated shell, I was warm in 30 degree temps. But merino offers excellent thermal regulation, allowing me to stay comfy even in the high 40s and with physical activity. Great job Icebreaker. I sized up a size and a half (usually a M/L and went with XL), but wish I had only gone with the L. Still happy.

Very Happy

La Sportiva Halite GTX Hiking Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 24, 2008

I am very happy with these boots. I found them to be incredibly comfortable and not ovens for my feet, Though still warm enough to hike in the Sequoias in November with only one pair of socks. The water proofing was also put to the test in 6 or 8 stream crossings, and held up amazing. My feet not only stayed dry, but despite the mud and muck, the shoes still look new. The only reason they get 4 stars instead of 5 is probably my fault, not the boots, I only wore them for 2 hikes, and a little around the house before the Sequoia trip, and several miles of steep uphill caused achilles tendon blisters. Like I said, it was probably my fault, but I still can't give 5 stars.

Awesome Shirt

Salomon Take Ami T-Shirt - Short-Sleeved - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 1, 2008

I can't properly describe the texture of this shirt but I'll see what I can do. It's not soft like combed cotton, but it is very very comfortable. It's very smooth instead of being coarse like a rough wool. Also, the material seems tough, like the shirt will last a while. Sizing seems appropriate, and I love everything about the shirt. Who knew bamboo made great fabric? Apparently Salomon did!

Small and soft

Kavu Hemp Harbor Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 October 7, 2008

First and foremost, these pants run small. For real small, not just a little small. I usually wear a 32 with room to spare, like a 31 fits relaxed. The 32 in these is snug, even tight. Other than that, the fabric is soft, light, thin, and comfortable. They seem great, once I get past the fear of blowing the button on a size that is usually a tad to loose. Moral: Order them, but ORDER UP!

Awesome

Oakley Bivouac Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 August 15, 2008

Highly Recommended. Very comfortable. Snug, despite laceless design. Look sharp to! They're not really athletically capable shoes as far as very brisk walking or pivoting/agility, but they're not really supposed to be. They fit approximately true to size.

Awesome

Swobo Featherweight Baselayer Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 August 10, 2008

I previously bought a different brand's merino shirt, and was impressed with its anti-stink, but disappointed in its heavy and scratchy nature. This shirt has all the pro (anti-stink)but is also awesome. It's thinner and lighter than most cotton shirts. It stretches and is super comfy. It does run a tad small, but it is supposed to be a form fitting shirt, so it is what it is. I'd recommend going up a half to a full size.

Soft and comfy, but just another poly shirt

Sport Science Raglan Polywool T-Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 August 10, 2008

This shirt fits nice, is soft, and quite comfortable. That being said, I bought it because I was excited about the wool, but was disappointed to find out that it develops a bad body odor stink after just a couple hours like all other poly shirts. I guess its my fault for my expectations, but it doesn't meet what I was hoping for.

Warm and stink free, but not very comfy

Merrell Merino T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 August 10, 2008

I have to thank this shirt for introducing me to the wonderful anti-stink of Merino, and it does that very well: it never stinks. It is warm, and it is actually quite soft. But despite being somewhat SOFT, it is still coarse and scratchy. It just seems that Merrell used too rough or thick wool here. It's not terrible, but this shirt is just not comfy enough to be excited about.
