Gregory Z 35 Backpack - 2074-2320cu in
May 6, 2009
theres a difference in the weights, the M. z35 is 3lb2oz, while the M. atmos is 2lb13oz. the atmos has a bucket pocket - great for a rain jacket, while the z35 has a zip pocket great for safe storage of smaller items. The Volumes are basically the same. Truth is it's a tough question to answer I love gregory since I have had great experiences with their packs, while osprey has a great reputation as well. Both companies are said to stand behind their products. Ultimately packs are like shoes - you need to try on a few pair and eventually you know which companies provide a cut that works for your body. Best advice I can offer considering BC remarkably easy return policy order both. When they arrive fill them with "your gear" and add extra weight for food so it equals the total weight of all the items you normally lug on your hikes. Play with the straps and stroll around the block, up and down stairs, jump around a bit and then decide. Just keep them clean and leave the tags on them to be respectful so BC can sell the pack you return.

MontBell U.L. Super Stretch Hugger #2 Sleeping Bag: 25 Degree Down
April 14, 2009
Is this an appropriate bag for the Appalachian trail June - July (I'm a cold sleeper)
Is this an appropriate bag for the Appalachian trail June - July starting north (NJ) and heading south. I will have patagonia wool 3 base-layers as well. Please only advise if you are experienced with this bag and the trail - I'd hate to freeze because someone took a guess. Thanks.

Icebreaker BodyFit200 Oasis Crew - Men's
April 7, 2009
Anyone know the weight on these crews? I'm 5'10 163 - I don't like a tight fit can I get away with a large? Also what would be the equivalent patagonia capilene base layer 1,2,or 3?
Thanks!

MontBell Ultralight Down Parka - Men's
March 26, 2009
Robert you wouldn't want to get this wet, certainly not if you are relying on it in the wilderness. You need a shell over it if it rains, hence the name inner.

MontBell Alpine Light Down Jacket - Men's
March 24, 2009
I'm 5'9 163 and the large fits me well, I think a med would be a bit snug for you. also you might want to consider the parka version it makes a huge diff. in terms of warmth.(my brother has this version so I've used both)The hood adds a very little weight. Although I know some people don't like hoods. The accepted rule of thumb with MB is to size up.

MontBell Ultralight Down Parka - Men's
March 15, 2009
Probably around zero. It's relative I'd freeze my "A" off with that's set up at zero, maybe 15 - 20 (I need to be warm). I got the black If shiny is an issue and the color red is not I'd go with the red. It was a hard choice for me but I could not picture myself in a bright red parka for long, so I went with shiney black.

The North Face Cat's Meow Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Climashield Prism
March 15, 2009
I had this bag till I returned it, it's not a warm bag at all, I suggest you look at the Mountain Hardwear Lamina 20 degree bag available on this site, much warmer and much better material (more comfort). If weight is an issue look into the ultralamina series. Again this bag will disappoint you, when you are freezing your cahones off in the Alaska wilderness. In my opinion you can't do much worse than this bag if you need to stay warm. If it's 45 degrees at night I suppose this bag would be fine.

Patagonia R2 Fleece Jacket - Men's
March 15, 2009
I am a perfect medium, is the R2 a size up item? I am not looking to do any heavy layering under it at most a wool or cap base layer. I do plan to layer above it when the weather gets nasty, an ul down inner (large) and above that a shell if weather is wet. So should i size up or is patagonia on target with sizing I'm 5"9.5 and 160lbs. Thanks!

Osprey Packs Kestrel 32 Daypack - 1800-2000cu in
October 30, 2008
The hip belt is not removable & I'd say it would be great for a school pack. I checked out this pack at a local retailer - it's quality thats for sure. Although it's a bit to large to be a school pack.
